Eastbourne v Glasgow Semi Final
SPEEDY69 replied to Hunters's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Quite laughable some of the reactions on here to one of my earlier posts. I know that during a race, red lights indicate the race has stopped and they slow down to a safe speed. I was not suggesting anything else. However, they must be prepared to stop because there may be an obstruction/hazard on the track. In this situation they were not racing and going slowly. If I was one of the riders, seeing a Marshall on the track and from the video I believe he briefly raised his right hand/arm to point me to the inside, I would indeed stop. If you're travelling slowly there's no other reason for a Marshall to still be waving the red flag on track directly at you. And yes, I have had to do that after a race was complete due to 1st aid staff being on the track ahead. -

Why is it a poor line up? There is still a qualification system and these riders did just that (bar one usually as a home nominated wild card?). Can't really knock them for that, many more fell by the wayside or weren't picked to enter by their own licensing body. -

Exactly. Should have stopped though rather than thinking he knew best. Marshall on track with red flag, red lights on, how hard is it to understand - obstruction on track, fxxkihg STOP. Jeez. -
So I picked the right country!

Bangkok? Phuket?

Well said. Nobody forces you to sell your business - it's your choice. No good bleating about it afterwards with a pocket full of folding.

Cook launched his fists first, fail to see how anyone can defend that. If it was in the street or my family/friend on the receiving end I know what I'd think. Cook ignored the lights/flags and therefore started the trouble. And just for the record, I'm not a cook 'hater' I'd say the same no matter who it was. -

That wasnt the one he punched. You need to watch the longer video. Yes, he spoke to him but launching fists is nothing but unnecessary assault. -

I notice that none of the brave riders bother to take off their helmets. The first one (Cook maybe) just launches into punching some bloke who simply walks up to him - all I could see from Kennett was bear hugging someone, not the same at all. -

So, having reviewed the short video clip it seems to me the riders could clearly see the marshall with his red flag (which means stop in a controlled manner) but the leading rider thought he knew best and would ride around the marshall. The marshall, thinking the rider did not understand the simple instruction (or see him) foolishly moved across to make himself impossible to avoid. The highly paid professional then deliberately attacked the volunteer marshall with a shoulder charge. Open and shut case for me.- 825 replies

Ha, usually the examiner has control of the throttle and removes the cut out - did you remotely remove the plug cap or ground an ignition wire with a long piece of string? -

Always the exception but I'm sure you're not advocating their removal from bikes? They are tested before each meeting as well so there's not a lot more that can be done to ensure they operate correctly. -

You're not getting my point. Nothing to do with helmets on parade - or course a throttle could jam in the UK but they wear their cut out so simply pull it out and the bike stops. This is also why they must be worn when warming the bikes up in the pits. Abroad, and particularly GPs I've seen, riders deliberately remove their cut out lanyard once a race has finished - plainly presenting a serious risk of the bike running with no way of easily stopping it. Oh yeah, and mechanics regularly run onto track to recover a bike from a fallen rider, restart it then whizz off on it with no cut out on OR helmet on (and are probably not licensed or insured either). -

They just coast around - they should be doing practice starts any more, this was stopped years ago. It gives the fans a chance to see their faces, to improve engagement. On the topic of safety issues, a very real one which gets flouted at every GP and I've seen it at some league meeting as well is riders taking off their cut out lanyard after the finish of the race, with the engine and bike still running around the track - this is strictly outlawed in the UK. All it takes is for one of these bikes' throttle to jam or similar and there could be carnage. I fail to see why this practice is not stopped. -
Poole v Ipswich 8th August 2019. Prem.
SPEEDY69 replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
As far as I recall, the marshall stands on the centre green holding the rope across the track. When the red lights go on, this gives an instruction to any rider that they must come to a controlled stop, not carry on around another corner. -

They don't let their riders rule the roost! Hampel, Smektala, Wozniak, Przedpelski, Buczkowski & Niedzwiedz all rode in the qualifiers but failed to get through. -
