I will be travelling down early in the morning, going through the Dudley/Wolves area around 10am time. Will be happy to meet up, drive you down and give you a lift back after the meeting. ..... still room for a pair of 19 year-old college girls who need a lift to Cardiff

Who's Going To Cardiff
T.N.T. replied to lady s's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
When are you coming across Volt ? Are you going to go to a few of the other meetings while over here, if you are here for the monday after the GP, Wolves will be holding their 80th Celebration night with Ole Olsen, Sam Ermolenko, Ronnie Correy, Finn Thomsen and many many more former Wolves in attendance. Not too sure of who is riding in the main event, but the racing at Wolves is usually top class. -

I will be travelling down early in the morning from my house in the midlands. I will be travelling alone this year as my two sons are staying at home getting ready for Tenerife a few days later. So if anyone is looking for travel to and from Cardiff on the day, let me know and see if we can arrange something to share the increasing fuel bill ! -

As stated before, I will travel down early in the morning and park up and head into town. Will drive back in the early hours to get home by 7am and go to bed. I'm looking forward to this years GP as there are Wolves riders actually in the 15 strong field and want to meet a few people on here that I have never met before. I will not be wearing my Wulf Sport Wolves jacket as it doesn't have inside pockets, so I will be wearing my bright orange TNT Jacket .... so say hello if I pass. -

I'm not sure on this, just seem to be recalling the early 90's when the Grand Prix was being concieved, but it was the plans of Ole Olsen which set them up and the FIM took these on to decide the World Championships. Now I seem to remember something along the lines of Olsen having the patent of the plans for the GP Series and as such worked alongside the FIM to run the series with him having the major control. I think when the Series took on a major promotional company like BSI or IMG, these took on some of the control, but Olsen still has a big slice of the cake and as an individual, holds more than any other person. This may have changed, but the prinicipal is something like that in its original days.

Have to say, Belinda Carlisle is a decent interval act, but I would like to see maybe something a bit different and a lot cheaper. There are a number of famous stars of the racing era that are wannabe rock stars. Why not invite them ? Damon Hill, Johnny Herbert and a few from the F1 circuit play in rock bands, plus a number of ex riders play instruments like Sam Ermolenko. Get a good Rock n Roll band and let these boys play a bit. Ole Olsen has bought in the Grand Prix series and sold it to the fans, media and sponsors and taken the sport forward. Would we have live Sky meetings on Mondays if it wasn't for the GP's ? The sport has sadly however got into a financial tug of war, much like the foiotball. Both sports now depend so much on the income from these live meetings they could not continue without it. Yes the track was poor and work should have been done on it during the day witrh more water at regular intervals during the morning to allow it to soak in. Ole runs the GP Series and yes he is Race Director, but doesn't he have a team of track curators working on these tracks as I know they do at Cardiff and last night wasn't that Colin ("No dirt, No Racing" Meredith with a rake ? Maybe some changes are needed, but Ole bought us the GP and that will keep him in the job till he retires some 15 years away. Didn't Hans get left out of a few Pairs and WTC finals ? Thought Tommy K and Jan O were used a few times in the pairs. Hans will go down as the greatest, but at least someone agrees about Bradford as Tommy went straight out on the first bend, sending Cook into Hans.

The track really needed some water putting on it earlier in the day to help it soak in but this wasn't done. Dont know if there was any threat of rain or not, but it looked liuke the water was put onto a hard packed track too late. With a hard track and you could see there was a number of pebbles or stones in the dirt, it could have been even worse had riders taken a wider line as they would be riding on marbles at times. They did a proper regrade late on by cutting into the surface, shame that wasn't done after heat 4 and water added straight after before skimming. Overall, it was a good GP and obviously we dont like seeing riders get injured, but it has to be said that anyone watching that for the first time would find it entertaining as most do with high speed crashes and they couldn't help admire the riders for carrying on. Gollob V Jonsson - Gollob did move over and rode wider on other races, but it looked like he tried to drop it on AJ going into the turn, but AJ decided to switch but caught Gollob as he came across. A racing incident and had AJ carried on with an inside attempt, I think they both would have stayed on but would have given each other a few elbows. Well Done Freddie .... 3rd in the World !!!

With double points, the chances are the winner of the final will be the biggest scorer anyway. This is the first time its happened, nut whoever is declared winner, Well Done Freddie on a great nights work and a near perfect night.
-
Notice I did start with NOT TOO SURE !!!! Cheers anyway Schumi for the vote of confidence
-
Not too sure, but Freddie finished with 22 pts compared to Holta's 17 and I believe this year they are giving top spot to the highest scorer and not the final winner. I may be wrong, but as the scores are now carried forward, this is the way they are doing it now. Holta qualifies for the GP Super Race though for definate
