Speedway bikes can be unreliable, and expensive beasts when they go wrong! In the NL, if you suffer a blown engine, it can take an age to save up to get it fixed again. I have absolute no insider knowledge as far as IOW is concerned, but the IOW track can be quite tough on the engines, which may or may not contribute to their problems. At this level, I think every team needs someone mechanically experienced to help out the younger guys with machinery, bikes, etc. There's a lot to learn at the beginning of their careers. Dudley have Jan O, Buxton have Dean Felton, Stoke Tony Atkin, Mildenhall have several, do IOW have someone similar? As for the meeting itself, I wasn't there, so shouldn't really comment, but these things happen, especially when the track is far from ideal. If you miss a gate, get sprayed with a load of crap, the bikes don't always like that!

Great start to the SWC. If the next 3 meetings are as good, I'll be happy! Some fine racing tonight, heat 20 was especially special. Perfect way to finish the meeting. Think it shows that sometimes a slick track can provide great races..

In the end this match was called off after 7 heats due to a nasty crash along with more of the wet stuff! It was 22-20 to Outrup at the time, so the result is 43-41. And some people think British Speedway has some quirky regulations! Best wishes to Karpov - hope he recovers quickly.

The next match on Kanalsport is on Friday as Outrup host Holstebro @6.00pm Uk time. Holstebro are without their number 1, Bjarne Pedersen, who's at Lakeside. They have drafted in Robert Kosciecha, who'll probably be reasonably solid, but not really a number 1. Outrup have a strong side for this match with no obvious weak links, and I'd expect them to win quite comfortably around their home track. Gutted for Nathan. He's been awesome so far this season. He was riding well beyond his years, experience & average, which makes him somewhat irreplaceable. That was only Mildenhall's 5th league meeting of the season, so he won't get a new average. Even if he did, he probably would have stayed at reserve, anyway, as the top 5 are all riding well and upped their averages. So I would expect Joe Graver to be given the chance now, but may be wrong.

The Slangerup Team Manager thinks he's okay - he was just interviewed. Hancock was speaking after the crash, which is a good sign.

I've been at and away from the computer at random intervals. What I have gathered is that he got up, had a knock to the head, so I assume he has concussion, and has gone to Esbjerg Hospital to get checked over.

Vaculik has hurt hand, "groggy" (Erik Gundersen's words!) and bit dizzy, so uncertain whether he will continue or not.

Any blow to the head is quite serious. I know of a rider who had a big crash last year, and when he woke up, he didn't realise where he was, how he got there, how old he was, etc. Must be a frightening thing to wake up to, especially when you're in pain at the same time! The Hancock crash was horrible to watch, and with Erik Gundersen commentating, being close to Hancock, and having his career ended in a very similar crash, it was hard to listen to aswell. Re: the Nicki interview, that was recorded prior to the meeting.

Hancock took a blow to the head, and he's gone to Esbjerg hospital according to Erik Gundersen, so expect a delay.
