Mildenhall V Stoke - National League - 5/8/12
MrMungo replied to PhilK's topic in National League Speedway
Not the case, Vog. Guest only for your number 1 - whether he is injured, tired, unavailable, on holiday or retired! Anything seems to go! Stuffed if it happens to any other of the side. R/R for 2nd to 5th in averages. If there's more injuries, or reserve is unavailable, then it's an unattached 3 pointer, (not even number 8s are allowed to guest (anymore) ). It happened to King's Lynn last year. Had to ride at Stoke with a couple of unattached 3 pointers as they had 2 riders out injured. Edit: What is it with people quoting someone multiple times? Is this a new fad that I have missed out on? -

If doubling-up is good enough for the EL, I don't see why it can't be used in the PL aswell. Congrats to Stoke on their well deserved win. Track conditions seemed to either suit them, or not phase them out as much as it did for some of the home team. Lambert, Birks, Reade all did what was expected. It was Tony Atkin who surprised me the most though, and put in a match winning performance. Not fast, not pretty, but man, he could gate! All of that experience is invaluable when track conditions are from ideal. Damon hit the nail on the head. With the Playoffs, you just need to make sure you're in the top 4. 3 out of the top 4 are obvious, already. From then on, you all start equal, and need to be able to beat anyone over 2 legs if you want to be champions. Whether you finish 20 points in the lead, or sneak into 4th place, there's no real difference. Still a disappointing meeting from the Mildenhall perspective, and I guess a lot will have been learnt from yesterday's meeting. Ie, how not to p*ss off Michael Lee, amongst other things! -

It does, Aljack, weather permitting. -
I heard it was a villa each.

Let's be honest here. Since when has Frampton ever looked happy? He must be the most miserable looking Speedway rider I've ever seen. At least last season he had a cool beard. This year he doesn't even have that.

Fun and games at Fjelsted tonight from what I've heard. Tough night for Holsted with Rasmus Jensen getting thrown out of the meeting and Klindt scoring a paltry 4 points. Good win for Fjelsted although certainly not the way in which they'd like to win the meeting. The ref certainly seemed to have made a name for himself. Probably not made a great deal many friends in South Jylland though!

Felt for Kikkenborg there. It was like he was against 3 opponents.
-
Change of underwear for Mr. Pedersen, please.
-
Nasty one for Lahti. Jepsen Jensen should've been excluded.

You're ridiculous, BW Double. Just plain ridiculous. Why on earth would someone who's only just come back from a big smash lay the bike when there's someone right behind him and could've very easily ploughed him causing very serious injuries. Heeps did very well to avoid him. It was not cheating in any shape or form. It was 100% commitment in a last heat decider by both riders on a very wet and very tricky track, which resulted in the fall. Nothing more, nothing less. -

MrMungo replied to PhilK's topic in National League Speedway
With only Heeps due out in the re-run of heat 15, a win appeared unlikely! Heat 15 never really should've been staged in the first place. Draw a fair result in the end all things considered. -
You're replying to yourself, Villiers. First sign of madness.

Race to be re-run without him, and Danny is being seen by the paramedics. Re-Run: Rose from the gate and Greenwood passed him down the backstraight. I've not done the Eggbowl since 2000. Have no intention of starting today. I will be one of the masses at the Norfolk Arena tonight. National League racing at King's Lynn is such a rare occurence nowadays I'd have to see it with my own eyes to believe it! -

MrMungo replied to Mimmo's topic in National League Speedway
Good ol' Lucy! Bound to be several. 13 riders (ish), a few mechanics, a referee, a start marshall, someone to let the masses in, someone to serve food for the masses. Bound to be packed. Hope you're planning on getting there early, Mimmo! -
Mark Baseby comes into the side, and Paul Starke goes down to reserve.
-
It was a normal first bend, Adz. Your typical, competitive heat 15. The ref, however, felt that revenge was being sought even though no riders fell, or looked like falling! A most definitely lively meeting Saturday night meeting. Best wishes to the injured riders who are no doubt feeling very sore this morning. Also to Robert Branford who threw up in the pits after that heat 9 race.
-
It usually takes a few days for the new averages to be declared. I'd imagine only riders that have been ever present would get a new average aswell, so guys like Tom Perry will have to wait a little longer.
-
If we assume that BPs don't count, same with 2 minute exclusions, Atkin has a higher average from the last 6, 7 and 8 matches based upon the results on Speedway Results.
-
It says "form", Vog. I agree there are some surprising selections, but it doesn't state it is all matches, or league matches, or league+KOC, etc. If I were to hazard a guess, I suspect it is something like last 6-7 matches or something similar. I've not done the maths though...shall leave that one up to you
-
I heard a rumour about that, very surprising if true. Daren't repeat it in case it's untrue! Actually felt sorry for the lad. He made a decent start in the reserves heat, but seemed to be fighting a losing battle against his bikes. They didn't look capable of doing 4 laps, nevermind 7 lots of 4 laps! Tricky, grippy, patchy track which proved rather difficult for several of the riders. Even guys like Blackbird (who really needs to work on his interview etiquette!) was finding it tough out there, although things did improve as the meeting went on. Some decent races though, a bit of mystery, and nice food still made it an enjoyable afternoon. Bit of sunshine, too! Best wishes to Gary Cottham, who was extremly unlucky. Hope to see him back on a bike soon.

Kings Lynn World Cup 9 July

Not sure if you've seen any of the footage yet, but the whole meetingcan be viewed at No Pearson though, unfortunately! -
Didn't he also have something like a 6pt average for Belle Vue in the EL not so long ago? (when it was stronger than it is at the moment) It's a shame to see him struggling so much. Hope he's able to get it sorted, and turn the corner sometime soon.
-
I remember one match a few years back when he saved King's Lynn bacon in a match at Rye House scoring something like 20 points! He's definitely not just a big track man in my eyes. You don't get a 10 point average by just doing well on big tracks. Admittedly, that 10 point average seems a lifetime ago now! I remember one match many years ago. It was a home match for King's Lynn against either Glasgow or Berwick. It was a very tight match. It got to near the end of the match. Heat 14 to be precise, and his bike died at the start. I don't think I have ever seen anyone more pis...annoyed at their machinery! He was totally gutted, but King's Lynn still managed to narrowly win...thankfully (in case you were wondering) After that match, his form turned from regular 5-6 points to regular double figure scores eventually helping King's Lynn to some cup success at the end of the season. That form continued into 2006 and so on. By that time, he was an out and out number 1, who rode with distinction home and away. I have always thought of that match against Glasgow as the turning point in his career. The moment when he decided he was fed up with having unreliable machinery (which he had at the time) and either invested heavily in machinery, or found some good sponsors. I could be completly wrong though! I can not believe for one moment that he is a worse rider than he was some 5 or 6 years ago. I just think he is probably at the age now where his priorities have shifted somewhat. He has a family to look after now (I think!), and possibly doesn't throw every spare penny he has into his bikes. Didn't he have an improvement in form late last year when Chris Louis did an engine for him? Or did I imagine that?
