If Cookie is available, with Robert,Adam they only have to continue there present form, and Jason continuing his present rich vein of form, i think this is all over bar the shouting, all these riders will be able to take 5 rides at least if they are needed, and in Jasons case probably 7.

great start for Buxton, The stars need to hang on in there, and do a damage limitation exercise now.

We read constantly of Teams moving UP from the NL, i would not be surprised to see A Team come in the opposite direction, with all the alleged loses made by teams in 2010.

Stoke Spitfires V Dudley Heathens (staffs Cup)
greyhoundp replied to Swift Saint's topic in National League Speedway
I take it Dave hasnt traveled up from Dudley recently, with the numerous road works you would be very lucky to do it in that time, more likely 1 hour. -
Of course the NL will continue in 2011,I am still of the Opinion with at least the same number of Teams as in 2010, though reading some of the negative vibes on here one would be forgiven for thinking the NL is doomed. I will give you an insite into two current esteemed promoters of our Great sport, aproximately three years ago CVS said to me personally, he could not see Heathens supporters supporting a NL team in any great numbers, how wrong he was. The former Cradley manager a certain C.Pratt said when aproached to rent Coventry stadium, I think Coventry Stadium being an A Grade track is not suitable for The Heathens in the NL maybe you should try Stoke, eat your heart out Colin. Now these are two established promoters who help run our Sport, and even they showed varying degrees of negativity towards a return by the Heathens, so perhaps its understandable where supporters get the same type of pessimism from.

Buxton V Dudley Play Off 17/10
greyhoundp replied to speedy bill's topic in National League Speedway
Squall Yes i note the Tongue in cheek but none the less, I still hold to my Opinion about the track, i have been to all The Heathens meetings <at buxton> including the rained off one, I didnt blame ANY Track conditions for our defeats, the better team won.I have been to Dream team meetings, Under 15,s meetings over the years at Buxton, so this was by no means my first visit to Buxton. -
Buxton V Dudley Play Off 17/10
greyhoundp replied to speedy bill's topic in National League Speedway
Whooooooo Jayne, of course i was there, its not about wether or not you are good enough, Jake last place in one race yet in another race he passed Robert,Lee didnt pass once,Ht2 jason could only come third <take it he is not good enough> when he missed the gate, I would hazard a guess if you asked your riders which Track they would prefer to race on week in week out, the majority would say Monmore. I stick by MY opinion High Edge is not an Ideal Track to pass on. Today as in three out of four recent meetings Buxton were the better Team, and deserved the win. Any way good luck to Buxton versus Newport, may the best Team win, i have no preferences. I hate my Team to lose no matter what its for or who its against, today was no different -
Buxton V Dudley Play Off 17/10
greyhoundp replied to speedy bill's topic in National League Speedway
It will be an interesting meeting but the bottom end looks far stronger for Buxton, i expect our top four to be at least equal to The Hitmen, but Tom will struggle around the outside <as ALL riders do> at High Edge maybe time for Tom to try some inside lines there but his gating HAS to be sharper,Richard is not getting out of the gate there, and Ash if he has a good day well he could make it very interesting,Just remember guys inside to middle lines ONLY around High Edge; so come on guys we can do it,but it is going to be very, very tough. For Buxton, last week Robert was there MOM, "The Wild One" again looks to be the Ace in the pack for The Hitmen, and Cookie will be Cookie, but Adam and Robert have a very important part to play, summary if ANY top rider for either Team struggles today, then the odds will shift to the other team, but Buxton have that all important 10 point cushion. Oh one final observation, will we have excessive watering of the Track prior to racing commencing, as i thought happened last week. -
There are rumours, not without foundation that more than one team may be lost to the National League in 2011, Should there be a loss of say two teams, allegedly Bournemouth, and say Plymouth or 1 other, Then maybe an addition of Mildenhall, Sittingbourne and i would not be surprised to see Stoke re-enter a team as Crewe ??, then i expect the League to remain more or less the same number, or even see an increase, based on the following. There may be other defunct Teams who may be encouraged by the success Dudley have achieved this season,I would say Dudley are argueably the most succesful <financially> team in British Speedway this season. I think it has opened up all sorts of possibilities in this respect for instance Long Eaton to ride at Leicester, Norwich to ride at Mildenhall or Kings lynn, Bristol at Newport or Somerset,Hull at Scunthorpe, Cornish/Exeter team at Plymouth and even dare i say Sunderland at either Redcar or Newcastle,Reading/Oxford at Swindon, maybe slight chances for Halifax or Bradford, but realistically there is maybe not a track close enough to support such a move, Yes i know Bournemouth have tried and failed to establish/attract sufficient crowds, but in all honesty Bournemouth do not really have a Speedway pedigree,i know Boston did it for a number of years then had to discontinue because there was not sufficient support, anyone think of any other teams that may be able to make a come back, along the lines of Dudley, i am CERTAIN there are other <formerly well supported> defunct teams who could make a succesful return in the NL.

NL Treated with Contempt
greyhoundp replied to Parsloes 1928 nearly's topic in National League Speedway
It would be a great idea, to hold the NL Fours, and The NLRC either on a Tuesday night or a Sunday at Monmore, Great Facilities and would be another big crowd, to bring the curtain down on a great first season for "The Heathens" bring it on. -
I agree that the Buxton Track is not conductive to "Good Racing" beutiful location, lovely little set up, and an example to Tracks of how to run on a budget, however the Track itself especially when it is Heavily watered does not provide much oportunity for passing, for what ever reason once the 1st and 2nd bends on first lap have been completed, there seems only one line and that is inside to mid track,if you move off that mid track line, then invariably you seem to end up in the safety fence, ask Micky Dyer, Ash morris, and Tom perry and perhaps lewis dallaway for Buxton.

Dudley Heathens Vs. Buxton Hitmen 05/10
greyhoundp replied to willp's topic in National League Speedway
Quote Bruno Yes i agree, he has natural ability,a 15 year olds enthusiasm, unlimited aggression, and above all HE wants to win, The only thing he has to learn is "patience" and what he most probably doesnt realise he has Sooooooooo much ability, that he can just wait for the right moment to go past, rather than trying to do it all in 1 bend or 1 lap, yes if its the last lap or last bend then go for it by all means. Yes i would love to see him in a Heathens race jacket next year, jeez which team would,nt, YES we gave him some stick at Monmore <probably gee,s him up even more>, and most probably up at Buxton over the next two weeks, but we did exactly the same thing to Kenny Carter, we support OUR Heathens Team, and see Jason as a potential threat to our winning these meetings, so he should take this as it is meant, and realise it is a COMPLIMENT to him. -
Dudley Heathens Vs. Buxton Hitmen 05/10
greyhoundp replied to willp's topic in National League Speedway
I have been watching/following speedway for ni on 50 years now, seen most if not all since the Fundin, Briggo era, and my own Heathens from Ivor through to Billy, Jason Garrity reminds me of The young Kenny Carter, yes he is full of youthful exhuberance, but he has the what you cant learn, a NATURAL ability to ride and race, ALL what i will say, is if CVS is not running around trying to sign him for The Wolves i will be absolutely amazed, YES i would love to see him in MY teams colours for next season. Well done Buxton, the better all round Team. -
Hmmm, yes for an injury that was supposed to keep him out for a month, its been a completely lost season, i would hope as Lee wont be riding NL in 2011, maybe Ben could be our No 1 next year, or would that be to much to expect now he has missed the whole season due to this unfortunate injury.

I generally moderate my TRUE feelings for the Council at Dudley, at the moment it is Cons controlled, but even when it was Labour at the time of the demise of Dudley Wood we received little or no support from MOST of the Councillors, If I were to GIVE MY true feelings for those at the Council and there wholehearted LACK of support for The Heathens or the return of,then i am afraid i would be banned from this site.

Jeez it will be cold up there on the peaks, QUESTION, what happens if the Play Offs is called off Due most likely to Frost or even heaven forbid rain...?? maybe we could arrange it in aussie land where one or two or four of the guys would most like to be anyway.

Dudley Heathens Vs. Weymouth Wildcats 22/09
greyhoundp replied to willp's topic in National League Speedway
Yes well done to ALL the Heathens, especially barrie, can you tell us HT does barrie FEEL his equipment is finally sorted, bcuz as you say weymouth are not a particuarly strong opposition. -
Some interesting ideas there Rhys, i dont pretend to have any mechanical knowledge whatsoever miles, so i take your point that 250,s are more expensive to maintain... I purely and simply put forward an idea to possibly cut costs, as everyone seems to believe this needs to be done, what is the sticking point is HOW it is done.

Dudley Heathens Vs. Weymouth Wildcats 22/09
greyhoundp replied to willp's topic in National League Speedway
With respect to Weymouth, I feel they may well feel the backlash from last tuesday, and it may well be the last chance for some of our guys to sort out and prove there equipment prior to "The Goldem Ommer" and vital KO meetings in Cup and League, so yes whilst i feel sure our guys will treat The Wildcats with respect, i feel sure there will be only one result, but hope there will be some interesting racing at the Barr. -
1st, The Council as usual offer lip service to The Heathens, the council leader a Mr Caunt patently pretends we dont exist, the Labour party supports us but does nothing, The Lib Dems are our strongest supporters, and are positive in there support, Councillor Dave Tyler actually sponsors a Heat at all our home meetings. My OWN take on this, and it is purely my own view; is there may have been a slight softening of attitudes, but its so slight that I cant see it. The local press namely Express & Star give us 1st class coverage, Halesowen & Dudley news give us weekly coverage, and to a lesser extent The Evening Mail, and Sunday Mercury cover our meetings or give us a mention, I think its BBC Radio West Midlands who also feature us reguarly, after all, all of them would be foolish not to with our fantastic support.

Heres my attempt; League Championship < no play off> Champions Shield < Top Four> National Trophy < remaining Teams Home & Away KO> KO Cup, same as currently. NLRC, Pairs & 4TT same as now. NL Reserves Trophy. Now the nitty Gritty; 40 points limit, 7 man Teams or 42 points limit, 8 man Teams All Commonwealth riders come in on 5 point assesed, no three pointers for whatever reason. 2 Reserve only races, no tacticals allowed, Ht 2 and around Ht 11 to 13. Only 1 rider over 25 per team. 1 Commonwealth rider per team. 2 Riders in each team to be 3 point average or under. The lowest official average to be 2.00 points. Costs need to be kept down, or brought down, how that is achieved is debatable, for promotions, riders and spectators we are all going through tough times. Maybe one thing that could be looked at is the possibility of using 250 cc bikes in the NL, is it feasable or indeed practical..?? That could help riders costs, and therefore promoters costs. For the spectators some incentives like kids for a quid, and if you attend ex amount of meetings you get another at half price, these sort of incentives need to be looked at and utilised. I went to Buxton yesterday a round trip of 150 miles,RAINED OFF, will i go again on a dodgy day, i will certainly think twice about it, but if there was some incentive that would encourage me, instead of closed gates to look at.

Oh well the Dog enjoyed the drive up, and his walk around the field, i didnt really fancy watching the Stock Cars so headed back. I was a bit P*ssed off when i driving back through Stoke only to notice the ground was still dry..

WEATHER updates ANYONE, those local webcams from up on the Peaks dont look to great, will be setting of in next 30 mins, is it ON or OFF....?????
-
Yeah, it would be nice if jayne could keep us updated <as she usually does> with regards the weather, down here in Duds its light drizzle but actually much brighter than it was on Tuesday. Well we down here live in hope Squall, otherwise we would not have a Team, never mind a Track, hopefully we can give the Hitmen a run for there money, and not just roll over..

I take it this meeting is still on, underwhelmed by the lack of response..
