tonights the second leg, and The Heathens have a good lead, can they preserve it, and go through to the Final, Im going to say yes, but it wont be easy, any Team headed by Robert Lambert, and Lewis Kerr will take some beating, but i did notice last night a couple of The Heathens riders were slightly below their best, namely Starkie and Blackbird, our top two riders, they need to be on it tonight, otherwise this could come down to the last few heats, Im going to say, no more than 6 points between the 2 teams at the end of the second leg, Dan Greenwood to be the match winner, if Dan has a bad night, The Young Stars will go through. -
Heathens V Iow..nl Play Offs S/f..23/09
greyhoundp replied to greyhoundp's topic in National League Speedway
Im not sure if this was a super performance from The Heathens or a very poor one from The IOW, personally i think it was a bit of both, if you take out the points scored by Steve Worrall, who scored just over half the total IOW scored, you can see how bad IOW were, the rest of the team took just 3 second places, thats right in 15 heats an IOW rider managed to beat an opponent on 3 occasions, and in two of those Heats, Nathan Greaves fell. The only weak link in the Heathens Team was young Nathan, who is struggling to even finish a race, a tremendous all round Team performance, though i suggest Starkie and Blackbird were slightly below there recent Top form, but the Bonus for me was, The return to form of Dan Greenwood, who scored a 5 ride paid maximum from reserve, easily his best performance of the season, well done guys. As a postscript, i forgot to add, it really was good to see Steve Worrall, back to something like his best form, when he is off, he has a tendancy to have the occasional fall, last night when he was in front he was never threatened, and looked really smooth, when he missed the gate he was constantly challenging, and was involved in the race of the night in Ht 13, where a couple of bike lengths covered the first 3 home. It was sad to see Tom Perry struggling at the back in a couple of his races, the effort seemed to be their but that bike, i would suggest is way down on power, for those who say he is lowering his average, thats absolute garbage, Play Offs dont come into averages, Darryl was again a big disappointment, though he did ride the Track a little better, than a few weeks ago, and Brendan again never really looked like putting in a challenge at Monmore, to summarise; were it not for Steve Worrall this could have been a record home win. -

Agreed, except you forgot to mention Dan Greenwood dropping to reserve for The Heathens, thats an added plus, should be good for around 8/9 points. -
Heathens V Iow..nl Play Offs S/f..23/09

Well the weather is set fair, The IOW are well on their way, Steve Worrall is a good choice, but Lewis Kerr would have got slightly more, if Nathan can stay on we will get 55+ points, good luck and stay safe. -
NEIL Machin has a message for Sheffield fans ahead of Thursday’s closing Owlerton meeting of the season: “Have a drink on me!” The Tigers owner announced last week that he is willing to listen to offers for the club after 21 years. And that means the Scunthorpe clash in the Retro Cup could well be his last in charge. He said: “Every full paying adult will receive a £3 drinks voucher at the turnstiles, so have a drink on me! “After over 21 years of promoting speedway at Sheffield, it seams like a logical thing to do. “I could not have done this job for so long without the support of those many people who have been present through thick and thin, rain or shine, home or away, and this occasion marks a remarkable journey which has twisted and turned throughout. “It’s been a journey that will continue along with a story which I intend to publish in some form or another going forward. “I have no intention of disappearing and may be called upon by whoever my successor is to advise or assist and I will enjoy having more time to spend with like minded people on a Thursday night. “My future objective is to hand over the best Speedway business in the best venue operated by the best people in those many key positions who make Sheffield Speedway, the identity synonymous with quality and good value.” Nice gesture by Neil, but i dont drink...lol

I suspect bernie123,, both trees and rhidassa, are both local to Kings Lynn, and are probably attending the Kings Lynn v Heathens meeting, Im sure they will confirm this, so dont worry its not Mildenhall V IOW this Wednesday.

Gustix you have gathered a lot of experience over the years about Speedway, i often read your posts, some are reasonably interesting, however i do notice you comment negatively on certain suggestions/ideas put forward by others , why dont you instead put the knowledge you have gained over the years into not only commenting negatively, but into suggesting ways around the suggestions/ideas that you believe to be not workable, it appears you have many hours available to yourself sitting on your keyboard, so try to be a little more positive towards suggestions others make, you never know some of your alternatives might be unworkable also, but a combination of various suggestions, just might be.

I hope this is going to be a good meeting, really sad to see Adam Ellis is injured, i would have thought Lewis Kerr, would be an obvious replacement, rides Monmore Wood well, and bang in form. Dazza seems to be back to his best, and if Tom has got some speed into his bikes, thats a pretty good top 3, Not Brendons favourite Track, Danny is an ex Heathen, and Chris is difficult to pass if he gates, the big question is how many points can they muster from RR for Ben Hopwood. I am going to say if The Islanders can hold the Heathens to something like 50 points they are in with a shout, but can they ? Im thinking something like 35 points will be the best they will get. Good luck and stay safe..

I thought they were sportsmanlike at Mildenhall, Just saying !!!

Heathens V Kings Lynn Young Stars 10/09
greyhoundp replied to greyhoundp's topic in National League Speedway
Yes it is definately next wednesday Parsloes, the fixture we dont have a date for, is the dead rubber NL fixture against KL away, though The Heathens apparently did offer KL the chance to make it a double header meeting, the Young Stars apparently havent taken them up on this, to be honest, I cant see the NL meeting being run. -
I am as intrigued by this as anyone, its very unusual for The Heathens to announce a signing, for the following season, whilst the current season is in progress, normally they like to announce these things to coincide with the local media, so i tend to agree with you that it will be the signing of a current rider, which can only mean as an assett, and young Max has created one heck of an impression, not only with the older fans, but he has his own younger fans who quite simply adore him.
-
I will take a wild guess, that it will be the signing as an assett of either Max Clegg or Nathan Grieves, with 2 outside possibilities of either Brady Kurtz or Michael Neill, if its an higher profile rider, who would indicate we are stepping up, then it has to be Royno, much missed by Heathens fans, and that would certainly set tongues wagging with regards British Speedways future..which would i hope for ? well any of them to be honest, but should we finally manage to win the Play Offs, then much as we have enjoyed NL racing, it would be time to step up.

Two days to go and hopefully the weather will hold off, its a big meeting for these guys, and an experience that will hold them in good stead for there futures, for some riders its there year, for others its a little early in their career, Yes there appears to be an obvious favourite in Kyle Howarth, but their are a few spoilers in their, if Adam Ellis has his gating gloves on he can win this, and i think its his kind of Track, Stefan Nielsen has the beating of anyone when he gates, Ash Morris is inconsistent from the gate, but dont write him off, but for most of the others this will be experience for them. This meeting has been allocated to Brandon, and they deserve it, Horton and Co have had a tough time in the EL, but i believe i am right in saying, their reappearance in the NL has been a success, from the size of the crowds, to finding some good young riders, I am sure it will be a good presentation by Mick, hopefully the weather will allow a bit of dirt to be put down, and with a good representation from local riders, I am pretty sure there will be a good crowd to support these young guys, probably a bigger crowd than will be at Rye for the NLRC the following night, everyone who is attending will be guaranteed some thrills & spills, there always is in this kind of meeting, the young guys will be trying hard, and in some cases wont have the experience "yet" to allow them to do what they will attempt to do, have a good meeting guys, and ALL stay safe.

Bryn Williams - Best Wishes
greyhoundp replied to Star Lady's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Sorry to read this Bryn, i know you have injured yourself, but for IOW to call off tonights meeting is a bit much , get well soon Bryn. -
good to see you back on here Nikko, sorry to read you no longer represent Kent, hopefully the parting was amicable, Im sure its Kents loss.

I doubt Stoke have gone bump, Tatum basically runs the Stadium, i really feel maybe Stoke is not a sleeping giant, but could and indeed should be doing better, a bit of money spent on tarting the place up a bit, improving the presentation, and making the spectators feel wanted could help make Stoke Speedway a better place to visit. It hasnt helped with the Team doing so badly on Track, they really cant go any lower, after all they are now bottom of the NL. It really will only take a Coat of paint, brightening up the Bar area, asking the staff to have a smile on there face when serving, getting spectators involved via the centre green presenter, and YES get a competitive Team on Track, Im sure many of the lost fans would return. I couldnt see Stoke having this bad a season prior to the season starting, and obviously we can all be wise after the event, the gamble with Smartie returning as No1 didnt come off, No one could forsee Ben Reade getting a long term injury, The decision not to resign Liam Carr was a mystery to almost everyone, a couple of plus points were the improvement from Lee Payne, the signing of Steve Worral, and the improvement from Luke Chessell prior to his latest injury, they are plusses in what has been a bad, bad season for The Potters Team. It wont take to a drastic change to get this team up the League table, its the OFF Track decisions that need to be worked on. Speedway without Stoke will be a poorer place.

My Team maybe not the best Team, but its based on riders who have improved; 1. Paul Starke 2. Lewis Rose 3. Josh Bates 4. Max Clegg 5. Adam Ellis 6. Liam Carr 7. Jack Kingston With honourable mentions to; Lewis Kerr, Lewis Blackbird, Charles Wright, and a few who have improved but next year will see them make bigger strides; Lee Payne, Matt Williamson, Luke Crang, James Shanes, and Nathan Greaves.

Heathens V Kings Lynn Young Stars 10/09
greyhoundp replied to greyhoundp's topic in National League Speedway
To be honest i saw the forecast the day before and it looked very doubtful, it still looks doubtful, for next week if the 10 day forceast is correct, anyways whenever the second leg is ridden it should be an entertaining meeting, i much prefer to see KL with a full strength Team, RR is not good for Speedway, we have our lead, and if we cant defend a 22 point lead then we dont deserve to get through, all being well we will have a full strength side on Track, and 25 points from our 3 heat leaders, 6 from Dan the man, and 3 between Cleggy, Nate and Ishy will be enough, not forgetting if we are that far behind we can throw in a double points ride here and there. In my meeting report i didnt go in for Robert bashing, i wrote as i saw it, some people seem to forget he is after all only 15 years old, he is very talented, maybe a special talent, but he needs experience, and at this moment in time, he needs experience of tracks that are different to what he is used to riding, a seasons riding NL & PL will do wonders for him, forget EL for now, take the oportunity to have a full seasons racing at the lower levels, its not about when Robert makes the gate, but its when he misses it he needs to learn, especially on Tracks such as Monmore Wood.
