Thought last week's speedway star a very good read. Let's have more of the same

Good job Tarasenko is there to inspire the Panthers, otherwise it would have been a walkover. The interesting thing is watching meetings like this inspire you not to go to watch it live and to keep your money in your pocket. I had resolved to get out and about this season to a few tracks up and down the country, but the more I watch it on TV the less likely I am to do that. You just get the feeling there is no point in driving miles just to be disappointed. That's the real tragedy of the sport these days.

Finished the book today. A bit 'wordy' at the beginning but soon settled down into a 'good read'. A fine overview of speedway in the 70's and 80's besides Peter Collins personal story. For those who cannot afford numerous books on speedway etc, this book goes along way towards telling 'what you need to know' about speedway from the 70's to the present day.

If they have live coverage at the other meeting there is no reason why they can't go to the one that's most entertaining, if the initial meeting isn't up to scratch. They can show the highlights of the original meeting as they did with the wolves meeting. I wouldn't have thought it was hard to do if promotion of speedway was the point of the tv broadcasts. Don't you think?

Funny you should say that because I was considering doing a 'tour' of tracks in July, staying overnight here and there, something I haven't done for a long time. Seeing this tonight and reading in the Star and the forums what is said about the goings on at various places, I am beginning to thinks that it's not a good idea after all. All that's not taking into consideration the expense of travelling and accommodation. In other words it's a good idea in theory , but the reality might be expensively different experience altogether.

Problem is you get tired of making the same observations over and over again, knowing full well nothing will change. The other problem is, your enthusiasm for the sport becomes subject to the laws of diminishing returns until you lose interest in the sport altogether!!!

Was really looking forward to seeing some league racing on tv for the first time in a long while. This meeting as been very poor on a number of levels. One wonders why they didn't do the wolves meeting instead of this one? After the first few heats was inclined to switch it off, but stayed with it to see if it improved. Overall very disappointing advert for speedway. The commentating seems very tired, as if they have lost interest in the proceedings too.

That's always debatable but you'll have to ask Simon Tatum was dismissive of his attitude -

She excluded Ellis to make up for the first heat exclusion. The commentators were saying all 4 back and were surprised when it was exclusion. I thought no it's not a surprise at all and it wasn't -

Not really worth watching it now. I thought it would be a one sided meeting but poor refereeing decisions has killed it -
Yes I was aware of that, but my son, who is not a speedway supporter in any way, was concerned that he'd had no response to the message he sent I said I would enquire on the forum. I don't expect that my son will get a response but that's how it is with things these days.
-
Spoke with my son this day and in among asked him if he'd had any response to the message he left on the phone re the book? The answer was, as I expected, no. It's getting on to 2 months now since it was ordered. Has anyone else had this problem of non-communication?

Belle Vue -V Sheffield POF leg 1 Monday 10th Oct

Had to turn the sound off because of Tatum's inane prattling. There should be a facility provided where you can turn the commentary off but still here all the other sounds -

Sheffield v Wolves 06.19.22 PO semi second leg
Mr. Clemens replied to Cue Ball's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I don't say these things lightly as I was really looking forward to watching these play offs not having had TV access for some time. I used to watch it on sky and the difference with what I saw then and what I am seeing now is unbelievable. The Sky presentation was highly professional but when I watched the meeting that was rained off, I couldn't believe how amateurish the whole presentation was, compared to Sky. The interesting thing being most of those who were involved with Sky are doing it for Eurosport!!! The actual racing wasn't much better in the meetings that ran, there seems to be a 'tired' air about it all, as though it doesn't really matter who wins this league. It's a shame because I love my speedway, but I get the impression that if you are not prepared to accept any drivel that's served up then you are not a real speedway supporter. In other words, this is the 'viscious speedway circle' leading to the ultimate demise of the sport as an option of interest to any organisation looking to get involved in real heavy duty sponsorship. -

It's been evident that speedway is dying a death for a long time, but it has always been in the background till now. In watching these three play offs it seems it is now 'in your face' and I felt I was actually watching it dying this painful death on TV for all to see. -

This is the third play off meeting I have watched. I really was expecting this one to be a good one but it's as tedious as the other two.
