Speedway Star Season Preview Edition
Alan_Jones replied to eric i's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Would Mr. Rising please pick up the white courtesy phone in reception... -
He wasn't going to show up at all until talked round by Len. Arrived in time for the photo session, did what was necessary and then left straight after. Also heard that when he arrived Len was taking him to task for not having signed his contract yet.

Fim Bans Participation In European Championships
Alan_Jones replied to PolskiZuzel's topic in International World of Speedway
They won't have the same battle because the decision will have been made in advance of the riders planning their season, rather than the retrospective decision which caused the current problem. -
The 4th listing in "Homes of British Speedway" is a demonstration race by Mads Korneliussen and Tony Atkin at the Wales National Ice Rink in 2004, presumably a tryout for a possible Thomas/Drury promotion. They also have Cardiff Arms Park listed in the grass speedways appendix for 1928. HoBS list an Ely Grass Speedway in 1948.

It's Tier 5 and it looks as though that is what Kozza has had refused.

Why would there be? It's Speedway's tried and tested "Wait and see... Whoops! Too late" policy. -
...in the MDL with a team of trainees to be led by Kings' reserve Dan Blake. More details here. 9 teams in the league with no mention, as yet, whether MK Knights will still be operating out of Rye House.

Haven't got round to the SStar interview yet but saw this pre-NZGP one on the Otago Daily News site. Some harrowing stuff about his father, but particularly like his answer about his greatest rival. "Nicki Pedersen. He's an idiot - he'll dive through gaps that aren't there and run you straight to the fence. Everyone is a bit ruthless at some point but he's ruthless for fun on every lap. I hope he doesn't break his back or someone else's doing it. I love racing him - he hates it when you beat him. If he beats you he turns around and gives you the old thumbs up. I don't even look around when I beat him - he's not worth turning around for."
-
Surely any rider that replaced Ringwood would outscore him because, having been replaced, Ringwood wouldn't score anything.
-
The full wording is; "Tier 5 (Temporary worker - creative and sporting) For people coming to work or perform in the UK for up to 12 months as sportspeople, entertainers or creative artists. Sportspeople must be internationally established at the highest level in your sport, and/or their job must make a significant contribution to the development and running of sport at the highest level." It gives a little bit more wriggle room if the "and/or" part refers to the highest level in this country in that any member of an EL team can be said to be contributing to the sport at the highest domestic level.

Doyle, Davies, Douglas, Ringwood and Smith named in today's SStar.

* SCB Quote "No, it was never a 5. It was always a 7." --------------------------------------------------------------- * HalifaxTiger Quote "Was it ? I ask because to be a 7.00 you have to be category 2: 'Riders with an "end of the previous season’s published average" in the Polish Ekstraliga or Swedish Elitserien of 6.00 and below plus ALL other Riders riding currently in any Professional Speedway League' - the crucial words being 'riding currently'(it doesn't say 'has ridden'). Is he riding in the Danish (or any other professional)League in 2014 ? If not, I'd say he's a 5.00. Whatever the case, I simply do not know how Somerset - or the BSPA - got it that he was a 3.00, because the qualifying condition is clear: 'Riders who have ridden in the National Development League as an Amateur '. Why did they even need to ask ?" --------------------------------------------------------------------------- * SCB Quote "Thats the only way they get away with it as he is not "currently" riding in another "Professional Speedway League". I'd argue that until 2014 kicks off he is currently riding in the Danish league though." --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The above quotes are the relevant opposing views. It's typical of the way speedway's regulations are badly thrown together and I can fully understand the Rebels faithful going with HT's view. IMO, if the Polish and Swedish averages are to be taken at the end of the previous season then there is no justifiable reason for that proviso not to apply to the other professional leagues. The Kings' Lynn guest fiasco was another situation where 2 conflicting forms of words were interpreted in both ways at different times by the BSPA MC and the SCB Tribunal. In the days when we had guests decided by differing home and away averages the change in regulation had been proposed by Neil Machin. On the first occasion that he needed to apply for a guest himself, he was amazed to have his first choice turned down. On further investigation he found that the regulation as published was worded differently to the one they had voted in at the AGM. Brady Kurtz is a 7 but I won't be holding my breath waiting for the correct decision to be made. Of course, the other possible variable is that we are basing our views on all current disputes on the 2013 regulations and there is absolutely no way we'll know if there are any significant changes for 2014 until much further down the road. * Apologies for the odd quote formatting. This is the 4th attempt because the forum wouldn't let me multiquote for some reason.
-
Quite right, it's 8-1 cards we need...
-
Great forward planning if so. It means they won't have to change the team again when Brady Kurtz finally gets the correct average.
-
Because they reapplied before they left the country and/or before expiry of the old visa.

This press release just issued by the Rye House promotion may throw some more light on the current visa situation; To Declare or Not to Declare? Not surprisingly, the rejection of Tyson Nelson’s visa application and the subsequent drafting in of Mathieu Trésarrieu as a Silver Ski Rocket has provoked a number of supporter comments on public forums. One that has surfaced makes the argument that teams should not declare a rider’s inclusion in their new season line-ups until the necessary paperwork is fully in place. This is, after all, the second time in two years that the Rockets have been burned, and the second time that Nelson has been ruled out of action. Is this a fair point? Is there a raising of false hopes? Rye House promoter Len Silver gives his own views here, and also provides details of just what is involved in the rider visa process in order to help clear up possible misconceptions. And it is more detailed than you might think. Silver starts at the beginning. “Before leaving the UK to return to Australia at the end of last season, Tyson had in his possession all the paperwork necessary for the issue of a working visa. This included the Rye House registration for overseas sports persons' sponsorship, issued by the UK Border Agency and fully paid up. “There was also an official document from the BSPA authorising Tyson's acceptance as part of the Rye House team, plus a personal contract issued by Rye House Speedway giving details of earnings, living accommodation and other items as required by the British authorities for overseas workers. “Back in Australia, Tyson had in place all the requirements necessary for the issue of a visa, which is in contrast to the first occasion he was refused, when some of the requirements were slightly wrong. “So we had no reason to think that it was anything more than a "rubber stamp" issue. We were not informed of a new edict issued from the Australian side which stated that there must be a twelve month gap between trips to UK under that particular sponsorship scheme. “A number of British promoters have been caught by the same issue, and some of the individual riders involved also have other items which have affected their visas, several of which have never been an effective item previously. “At what point do you communicate your plans publically to your supporters? Do you leave a “tbc” in your line-up for what could potentially be a 2-3 month period when you don’t envisage a problem and have no reason to envisage one? “I’m convinced we took the right approach on that.”
