Ryan Douglas has sold his to Lee Dicken for his lad who has, also, sourced another. I heard on Sunday that Ryan's had less power than the other. Even having Ryan's ex mechanic Reece working for Freddie, nothing could be done to sort his engine out. (employed by Freddie now so no secrets should be let out)

Sgb Championship Best Pairs 2017
IronScorpion replied to idh's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
don't think either Smith or Bewley will be in the Glasgow pairing -
If we are going down the route of a strong no1, it's worked for Berwick with Morris, then a top sacrifice has to be made. Bringing in a rider of the calibre of Bellego(8.65) or Kennett(8.15) means bringing in a 4.00/4.50 point rider of possibly Jacobs or Wallner. With our team average of 38.99 this means losing 1 of either Toft, Kerr or Auty to fit in 2 new riders. On to Sundays performance. There was some excitement but also embarrassing in that away riders can show our guys how to ride the EWR. Richie did an excellent job protecting Bewley in front by changing lines to keep Auty at bay in heat 7. The use of the t/r on Wilko was definitely strange at the time but understand the reason as, yes, it is a heat he should be winning. In heat 9 Auty & Douglas again swapping lines on laps 3 & 4 nearly taking each other out gifting points away, GET IT SORTED. In heat 13 it was a typical EWR race in trying to pass riders in front but also needing to protect the pass from behind. Again, a team talk was missing as 1 rider should have rode the inside line & 1 the outside meaning the rider in front (Lawson) has to look over both shoulders to keep both Scorpions at bay & making it harder for Summers to have a blast on the last 2 laps around the outside. 10 last places in 14 heats does not help the team get a result either.

With Ryan, it is nearly always a confidence issue as he always gets an injury to knock him. As he has proved before, when he is confident he is buzzing & gets decent scores regularly but I hope he is not putting too much on himself because of his visa issue. Starting out this year on different engines has not helped with his inactivity in the winter. His 3 year visa expires this year meaning he has to attain a 7 point average or, when he returns home, a top 4 finish in a State Championship. By having a look at the amount of meetings left, he would have to average about 9 which is more than what Lewis Kerr is achieving. I hope he does not try too hard to achieve this & gets another injury. I think his best option is to ride within himself, confidently, scores the points which will give him the confidence to target the top 4 finish back home in Australia, which will then see him achieve his goal to return in 2018 -
Heathens Planning Application
IronScorpion replied to martin_t's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
When Leicester Lions were reborn in Beaumont Part, as well as the planning for speedway, wasn't there plans for other amenities for the community? What is its present state as I hope all goes well for this proposal for speedway & the community. -

Heathens Planning Application
IronScorpion replied to martin_t's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
As we all know, Nigel Pearson and Chris Van Straaten have strong connections within Wolverhampton Speedway but for the sake of speedway in the area, they should join together & follow it through, stronger as a unit. Pearson has always said that they were looking for a decent site & here it is, not quite on their doorstep but not too far away. It will be lower league speedway so should not be a problem providing that they would ride on a different night to Birmingham & probably Stoke, thus not invoking the 30 mile limit on teams racing on the same night. Whether the team would remain Cradley or be a new team Sandwell, should not be an issue. -

The changes in averages & team positions occur after the 10/7 so Toft moves back to 1. I would expect the team to be Toft Wilkinson Auty Douglas Kerr Aarnio Bailey I was up there for the group A fixture & the racing is good with opportunities for passing similar to ours if you can find the right line. Plenty of banking helps but if you go too high, you go backwards. Their reserves of Perks & Ayres killed us off with 18 points from 10 rides with only 1 last place but was good to watch. A few dodgy referee decisions went against us, also. -
Rob has always given honest assessments & views which are not everybody's cup of tea. It shows, just in this last couple of weeks, how hard it is to be a promoter as in his notes of the last programme that we were still waiting on Stefan but Fritz is ready to come back. But he needs a strong reserve at no6, whether Nielsen, Aarnio, Wilko or others, he does not need another gamble. In the Star, he states we might need another change. In the telegraph, he states Gino has no gear ready for racing(not sure what or whose gear he is using at the World Cup) Last Sunday & now last nights results have really kicked us when we are already down. I expected more from ex witches Kerr & Wilko but it's not happening & I fear, as someone has posted, there could be a first win for Newcastle at the EWR.as Howarth will get a max or close to it as he's been an excellent guest for opponents (but not for us) & Richie could score well. I just hope the others have a poor night & we get the points but don't leave it to a last heat decider. If I was an Ippo fan being a neutral & being in this part of the country, I would be checking the weather forcast as the sun is out & around 22C but cooling off later to 20C. Better off with a barbeque & a few beers later, then. .........

You can still hear the thunder rolling away but it's still warm & humid, like all day, and the road & paths are now dry! -

The Tapes & Unsatisfactory Starts
IronScorpion replied to Shockster's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Posted 16 September 2016 - 04:31 PM A system could be used similar to motor racing. Transponders used to monitor movement, do away with tapes & have an overhead/track canopy 20/25metres down from the start with red lights for ready & then green for go. All the riders are facing forward which eliminates the chance of riders on gates 1 & 4 moving slightly with the riders on 2 & 3 going & getting penalized -
The Tapes & Unsatisfactory Starts
IronScorpion replied to Shockster's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
shockstar, check You Tube clips of any heat from meetings this year & you will notice that there is a second line approx. 430mm behind the start line. This means that the front wheel axle should not be behind this line meaning the front wheel should be within the 75mm allowed from the tapes. This is still not fully enforced this year by the start marshalls resulting in the riders rocking back into the top of the groove to give them "rollers". There are a couple of topics elsewhere on new starting procedures. http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=71828&do=findComment&comment=2193302 -

The SAME referee that officiated the Redcar v Glasgow meeting(+ J McGregor) ????????????? swings & roundabouts Redcar fans!!!!!!! -
Steve Worrall was riding with his brother, Richie, in the Scunthorpe NL team in 2011, a couple of years before the EDR was brought in. The EDR system was not thought through as it brought the young kids in straight at the deep end. To me, the young lads need the experience riding at different levels as it should have been NL to PL then PL to EL(old league titles)

Strange........................................I saw a tweet about Stefan's soon return this afternoon so asked a question on how injured riders return & replace an outgoing rider in a new topic not long later. I now can't find the tweet (probably removed) so as not to steal the thunder. The news is too late for publication in the paper out tomorrow so the "news" will be out via website & social media.

Scunthorpe V Berwick 25/06/2017
IronScorpion replied to ellioth4's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
From what I remember seeing on the track, Howe & Auty did not get on, in that the way they rode together, at times, was if they were the opposition riders. I even heard a while ago that certain riders would not come out in heat 15 if they were paired together. I like to see racing but if it is going to be hard to catch an opponent then I don't like to see our own riders chopping each other up,, changing lines as it is an accident waiting to happen & gifting points away. Surely a talk in the pits how riders are going to ride & after the 1st two bends if it didn't go to plan than adapt. Regarding Josh Bailey, I thought, this year, that certain riders,& Josh was one, should not have been riding in 3 leagues, never mind some others in 2. Josh always seemed apprehensive about mixing it in the first bend but then was, generally, up to speed with the others & I feel this problem might still be there. I hope not, though. We have suffered in our choice of replacements where others have not, but I think there is now some decent riders that have come on & deserve a spot, if available. Kyle Bickley, Tom Brennan, Georgie Wood, Jake Knight even Mark Baseby & the recently signed up Taylor Hampshire who started out with Josh at Kings Lynn. As I said, without delving deeper, I am unsure of ages & availability. -
The guests have looked poor because you have moved a decent rider(Anderson) to no2 who is already familiar to track & set ups.

It was pointed out that when Buster took over, it was too late to make any rule changes & they would start in 2017. Any changes made are agreed upon by vote by all promoters & not just the committee members.

Another grey area to our rules. "A period of inactivity" if withholding his services to Sheffield, applies to both leagues. If JPB intends to re-join Sheffield, then his ban will be 14 days, similar to Auty, BUT, if he has NO intention to re-join Sheffield, then the full 28 day ban should apply. This is how I read it but rules & interpretations, what a minefield!
