This could be a minefield as the disqualified rider, after the race has finished, could have effected the race result. A nightmare for filling in programmes if your too quick!

Scunthorpe Scorpions 2018
IronScorpion replied to IronScorpion's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
My post was based on the make up of teams at the start of the season. Depending on which reserves you choose in 2018, with us having 7.54 remaining, I would prefer riders of Hume(bargain at 2.00) & Aarnio rather than Perks & Bowtell. although Jacobs & Bailey could improve. Hume & Phillips should be on everyone's radar, though. -

After having a sleep on it, it is nice to get a team sorted early & it looks good, very good, but is this due to the increase from 40 to 42.5. Comparing it to the Ipswich starting line up of 2017 is interesting S Worrall................D King J Garrity.................N Covatti J Auty....................R Schlein J Allen....................K Newman S Nielsen...............C Heeps The difference in 2 seasons is this year, with 7.54 to play with, going with 2 reserves of 4.5 & 3 hoping to gain a heat advantage in heat 2 & minimise last places with partner over Ipswich team with 2 x 2-pointers. -

Very surprised with the Garrity signing as it's quiet on the Redcar topic about him barring his injuries & starting but hopefully the new rules should help. We now need as many helpers as possible to dig up the Armco fencing to move the track out a bit more for when Auty, & Garrity are in the same heat. That top 5 should give us plenty of choices if we have to use the tac sub. WELL DONE ROB AND THANKS TO THE 5 OF YOU FOR AGREEING TO RIDE FOR THE SCORPIONS IN 2018 -
Final averages now out for both Premiership & Championship Leagues. For teambuilding purposes, will the 1.2 conversion be used between Leagues if only rode in one? If a rider has ridden in both leagues, what average will be used now they have ridden to the same race format? Any rider not in that list but has ridden in the old racing format still have the 1.4 conversion applied(even though it did not apply to Musielak & THJ in 2017, possibly Lahti also but unsure)?

I would hope that is the case. We know Auty is a 7 point man as he is poor at gating & even though he can get big scores at home, the stats say he is a 8-pointer at home & 6-pointer away. We know what Worrall can do both home & away & saw what Allen & Nielsen could do but home wins are the priority so it's winning heats & heat advantages. I would love Kerr back as I think even though he improve his average, it could have been better with some dodgy looking scores towards the end of the season. Was it machinery or something else, I don't know, but proved what he could do in our last meeting in the KOC. This would mean having a lower rider in the reserve spots that szkocjasid has posted. Too many 5-pointers in that team. -
taken from statement "PREMIERSHIP and Championship leagues team points average increased to 42.5 with the Premiership permitted one rider of an average of 8.00 or more. Championship has no restrictions." I have seen you post in the early hours but have you woken up yet
-
What he means is that in the Premiership, half the teams will ride on a Monday & half on the Wednesday & in the Championship 5 or 6 could ride on Fridays. Unless there are changes, on a Thursday, there are Sheffield, Redcar & Ipswich. on a Friday, there are Edinburgh, Scunthorpe, Glasgow & Peterborough(Sundays were, also, used) on a Saturday, there are Berwick & Workington on a Sunday, there are Newcastle Lakeside I am not sure about
-
I think the main reason for fixed race nights was to, severely, cut down on the number of guests due to double uppers not bring back the "stars". I do agree, though, that the one 8-pointer per club is wrong. Most riders have true averages now & team building is 42.5 so build to it, doesn't matter how.

A couple of other points to mention could help his progress in Poland. Has now done his training on the tighter tracks doing very well at Newcastle but has set his sights on progressing in Poland, not to mention his GB appearances on the bigger tracks. He has now been at Belle Vue, a track similar in size & shape to Polish tracks & who now will be racing on Mondays & Wednesdays, rather than a Friday. Has ridden at Scunthorpe with its big bends so needs to get back to changing lines & with Glasgow moving to Friday night racing similar to Scunny, it will help in his preparations in travel & practice for Poland. -
quote from Marksman So our request to change race night to Fridays was rejected. But Glasgow and Scunthorpe are fine they can move to Fridays! Whole thing stinks to me, must be good having someone from your club on the BSPA management committee. Scunthorpe asked to move to a Friday in meetings pre AGM back in September & announced in our Telegraph but only if we ran in 2018 A few years ago, Glasgow were refused a change of race night to a Friday because of it's close proximity to Edinburgh(even though it's over the permitted 40 miles) and Harkess(in charge at Edinburgh & the BSPA)

Both Worrall's riding in lower league in Poland & has been said elsewhere Steve riding closer to home. Whether that means St Helens or Cleethorpes, unsure. Auty due a testimonial so where else would he ride. In Glasgow thread, they wanted Allen but MANSE pointed out that he has verbally agreed with another club & Rob said at the end of this year he was available on a 6.08, still. So going by other postings, a team of S Worrall, Auty, Allen & throw in the returns of Lyager & Nielsen would be a good start. There was also the cryptic mention of the "frog", probably being Berge but he still has a high 6.9 average from 2016 rather than his raced 4.55 average as he did not complete the required number of meetings to get a true average. 5 out of the 6 named would be a good start with Lyager the most likely to miss out. -
To keep a teams identity of their own riders then rather than guests, if a rider is missing, r/r & a no8 are to be utilised where riders of averages 1 above & any below can be used for r/r & the no8 can be used to replace a reserve.

I'm sure MPT has rode in the Danish League for Esbjerg this last few seasons with him moving to Holsted in 2018. If the Danes use squads then this might help fixture clashes between the British & Danish Leagues now the PL is going fixed nights on Mondays & Wednesdays. Not sure if TJ has signed for a Danish club.
-
The AGM is now finished & some finer details should be forthcoming but as everyone should know, the decisions made are NOT made by the BSPA committee, they just "chair" the meeting. ALL promoters in the PL &CL have a say & a vote with their hand, so if you have a problem, take it up with your promoter. In the SS, it has been stated that they got some things wrong(they do every year) but again, not just the BSPA's fault, but the fault of the promoters voting & decisions made during the season. I mentioned earlier that Mondays & Wednesdays would suit the British Leagues better before knowing who was in the play offs, who could be promoted(farce), who could move between leagues. The only riders affected by this will be the riders who ride in the Danish League who wish to ride in the PL. Some riders, already, have Danish League places. A 42.5 limit across both leagues seems to be what most posters were after. Will there be a conversion factor up/down for riders moving to a league where they did not ride. If a rider rode in both leagues, which average will apply? (I said this last year that if you have a PL average then that should apply in the PL & vica versa for CL. YES, the t/r is abolished & t/s brought in but how many times can it be used? Being able to use it up to & including heat 14 means top riders could influence a late surge to change a result being in heat 13, t/s in heat 14 & nominated in heat 15. (TAKE NOTE ROB ) From a post above, Chris Louis has said no restarts unless tapes touched so ROLLING will be allowed.(start marshals must make sure riders are within 75mm of tapes with front wheel spindle over the 2nd line).

Don't worry. Jack Holder is only the no8 at Torun behind the non Poles of Doyle, NKI & Chris Holder! -

Frustration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have a universally used race track for all concerned & when it is raced on, it is one of the best, entertaining multi-lined, fairest tracks that riders can race on. We just need to win more often as we need to bring back the days of success of '06, '07, '11 & '12. -
By going through the season with the averages changing every 2 weeks, you would think they SHOULD be right as why make mistakes in the last 2 weeks of a season!
-
As most in season meetings are held in Rugby then that would be the obvious destination. As we know, though, it is cold at this time of the year so they will need the heating on. By going to Tenerife, this should not be the case but if they come back with more colour in their cheeks(facial) , they will have spent more time in the sun than inside sorting out the rules & the way speedway should be run in 2018. Or will that be the alcohol!
-
The last time I looked, Drew Kemp had ridden in just 3 NL meetings averaging about 4.9. He may have been hitting big scores in other meetings where he was having 6 or 7 rides but overall from around 14 meetings he has been averaging around 5.7.
-
What's the difference between the PL & CL? .................................................Top rider on a 8point+ average in PL to a 2-3point average rider in CL who also rides in NL!
-
There is snippets of this issue on NL threads as most riders start their trade at junior level(NDL) before progressing through NL, CP & PL. Teams should not be able to sign riders as assets just because they have potential, Proven by the ridiculous state of the EDR system when Poole had a large asset base & priority of pick of 2nd rider. I do believe that once a rider has ridden a set number of meetings for a club then this said rider can be signed as an asset of this club. If he then moves on, the said club receives a loan fee. If this said rider does not ride for this club for 3 seasons, they lose this rider as an asset.
