  1. I'll buy it if you down it in one! Is it always this messy when you lot are out on the town?
  2. Finally Clean gets 2 goes at red. Let's hope he makes the most of them.
  3. Nothing like getting your order in early! Besides, I might want you to bite.
  4. Long flowing locks or big hair? That's just a trip down Memory Lane, believe me! Clear as mud, eh?
  5. Sue, I've been to the last 4 at Cardiff and sat in the bottom tier for the first time last year and definitely thought that it was the best view. We were right on the exit of bend 2 in Row 15, which was really about Row 5 given the meshing. It wasn't claustrophobic at all and you could get a real sense of the racing as the bikes were only 20 metres or so in front of you. Once you start to go up it all seems a bit distant IMHO. Sorry to contradict rabbit, but as I'm 6 foot I probably didn't have the same problems with the viewing. I'm making an 11th hour decision about attending this year, but it would be good to say hello if I make it. Not sure if I'm brave enough to meet shazzy though.
  6. They clearly hadn't gone up enough to stop you going up for seconds! Business must be brisk at "The Noodle King" that's for sure.
  7. Decent meeting and well done to Dark Dog for what I felt was a surprising success. Watching the final I thought that Nicki was just racing Crump, but they clearly messed each other up and that played into Gollob's hands. Dryml - Lindgren. I thought that it was a nasty move by Dryml, but as has been mentioned, the key thing is that they both walked away. For a minute it looked really ugly. Presumably Freddie was excluded for trying to overtake? For a temporary track it held up well, but Gate 4 became a graveyard as the meeting wore on, and sadly Clean had 2 of them. He scored 8 out of 9 elsewhere to book his semi spot, and then hey presto he got yellow again and came last again. Just one of those nights.
  8. SW17 - 2 things spring to mind - firstly how did you choose the hotel? If it was via an advert somewhere or even a particular website or search engine then presumably you still have half a chance if you can remember the details? Also, if you booked over the phone then the number may be on an old bill if you still have it tucked away somewhere? Both a bit of a longshot though. Good luck!
  9. Round 1 - 88th Round 2 - 41st Round 3 - 8th I knew Lindgren and Holta were the key.
  10. Exactly. He's on the world stage now, and no doubt earning a pretty penny for the privilege. If he wants to get his head down and focus purely on his racing then that's up to him. The ludicrous Cardiff advert only served to make him look stupid, but I can't believe that anyone forced him to do it, and I'll bet he got a big fat cheque at the end of the day.
  11. Blimey! What a feat of endurance that was for the "New Inn" faithful. At one point we were counting our blessings that it was a Bank Holiday weekend, as the meeting just went on forever. I've never heard a slow hand clap during a GP before! As for the topics of debate: Track - total disgrace. I'm firmly with the "Olsen Out" camp. If we get 2 decent tracks in the whole series we'll be lucky. The Brits - way off the pace yet again. Bomber's gating looks more exposed at this level with every meeting. The Winner - a big well done to Rune. I like him, but don't know how he used a 750 in the final without anyone noticing. The Runner Up - crying shame that he missed out on the one chequered flag that really counted, but now looks a good bet for a Top 8 finish which will be a great effort in his debut series. The Clean One - just like Thursday there was something missing from Leigh's armoury last night. He looks booked for 3rd or 4th overall yet again in my view. How he messed up the semi after such a sublime gate is beyond me. Andreas - really hope he's ok; and how absurd that we had no one in yellow in the first semi. Nicki - I was shouted down on here for saying that we may as well hand him the title after the opening round in Slovenia. I've seen nothing since to make me change my mind. Gollob - I didn't think it was a dangerous move; just a racing incident. Who was the GP winner? - another all time low from the Sky Team.
  12. I'm hoping for Led Zeppelin. They're touring again according to this week's press.
  13. A cracking night in the New Inn, and that was before the Adder took us down memory lane with his own unique version of the worst Swindon Town XI of all time! Decent meeting IMHO, as it invariably is when the GPs are on traditional racing circuits rather than the man-made tracks that blight half of the series. I agree that a bit more dirt may have helped, although obviously the best man still won, so it was all smiles in sunny Swindon! Leigh definitely had his gating boots on in his last 4 rides after he swapped bikes. Re the Pedersen / Crump incident, we were unanimous to a man that the referee had got it right so I'm amazed that the consensus on here blame Nicki. Not that I'd have expected him to get a fair trial, mind you! Sadly for Jason that was the first heat that he had actually looked like he meant business. Maybe next time? Anyway, Leigh put Slovenia firmly behind him and moves up to 4th overall. Shame that popular chap that hit the fence went top really.
  14. What a load of tosh that was. As Mr Shovlar suggests, we may as well give Nicki the title now and forget the rest of the series, such is the gulf in class. Shocking stuff from the rider formerly known as Mr Clean; his meeting ended as soon as the rain came down. Rubbish. At least Rosco was on form tonight. Not sure he'd have done much off Gate 4, mind you! Credit finally to the Dark Dog. Vintage stuff.
  15. Err, call me an old cynic, but shouldn't a "personal message" be just that? Sorry to hear that Steve won't be running the competition this year, especially if it is just down to the actions of one idiot, but thanks for doing it in previous seasons.
  16. Brian Brett was born at Stanstead Abbots, Essex (on 3rd April 1938). Henk Bangma was born at Joure in the Netherlands on 11th January 1971.
  17. We travelled with the Speedway Star Travel Club when I went to Lonigo (2006) and tend to agree with most of the sentiments already posted - a shade on the expensive side but they do take all the hassle out of travelling. For some of the more tourist friendly cities you can probably sort yourself out quite easily, but when heading off the beaten track it's nice to let someone else take the strain. My one gripe would be over the ticket prices for the GP itself - we paid premium rate for some home straight seating only to find that you could pay cash on the night for the same area for less than half the price. Not good.
  18. An update on Leigh's intentions from today's "Evening Advertiser"... Good news for both the Robins and the GP Series by the look of it. Swindon Robins captain Leigh Adams is targeting one last crack at speedway's world title - but only after a complete break from the sport this winter. Adams, who is close to securing a new Robins deal for next year, is expected to confirm his participation in the 2008 World Championship shortly. Speculation had been rife for months that 2007 would be his last season in speedway - but the 36-year-old Australian superstar looks certain to be racing in Europe again. The good news for Robins fans is that their second top all-time scorer should also be back to lead Swindon. And, after four months off - he will not not try to extend his record-breaking run of 10 Australian title wins - Adams will also try to improve on his runners-up spot to Nicki Pedersen in this year's Grand Prix series. "We have the right package almost in place for my last season for sure," he said. "But if I win then we would have to reassess things again. I have always said I would never ride in it to make up the numbers and felt like bailing out this year but it has been a very constructive season for me. We are still in the process of sorting everything out but we are 95 to 99 per cent sure I will do it again next year. Everyone has been very supportive, particularly the sponsors and it is all coming together pretty well. Adams revealed he and Swindon co-owner Terry Russell were putting the finishing touches to a deal to bring him back to Blunsdon for 2008. "I can't see a problem Terry and I are pretty close to a deal," revealed Adams. "Swindon is in my heart like all my teams Leszno (Poland) and Masarna (Sweden) - as far as I am concerned they are like family to me you know. How can I put it - I have total respect for the towns and have done a deal everywhere except England. We are very close to clinching a deal so I can't see there being any problems. I hope to be back next year.'' The Robins captain enjoyed possibly his best season ever in 2007 topping the averages in England and Sweden, was second in Poland and of course was world runner-up. Adams was forced on the sidelines for 10 days after a horror crash at Reading involving Travis McGowan, Andrew Moore and himself after Racers' McGowan lost control in heat 11 of the KO Cup semi-final. He added: "What people forget about is I went down hard in the Reading match. It knocked me around and knocked the guts out of me. To be fair I wasn't really fit enough, only about 90 per cent going into the play-offs and everything. I came back pretty quickly and I think I did a pretty good job but I am still not a 100 per cent fit. So when I go back home I will have a look at things. I will have an MRI scan on the shoulder and see what happens, we may need an operation. I have ridden with it strapped up since the crash and feels fine but it is still in the back of my mind. It is a relief to get the season over with and go back home to Australia. I will not be riding at all during the winter and not taking part in the Aussie Championship."
  19. Without the trauma of a wedding to organise, I definitely intend to do another overseas GP next year. August looks best, leaving a choice of Prague, Sweden (Malilla) or Latvia. I would definitely have said the former, although the racing there this season was awful. In terms of the whole weekend, however, I guess that it’s probably the easiest to organise and most interesting place to visit?
  20. There is usually Somerset on Friday night, Newport on Sunday afternoon, and possibly Swindon on Sunday evening.
  21. Get over yourselves Bees fans! You're starting to sound as paranoid as Man Utd fans over this one. What has jealously (or Coventry for that matter) got to do with it at all? I can only speak for myself, but my view would have been the same whoever Scott and Bomber ride for, and wherever they had happened to finish in the league. Some very shrewd judges (including Bees fans) have stated that Nicholls should have been excluded on Saturday, giving Bomber the automatic pick. It was inevitable that both would have been in next year's series anyway as the promoters will always try to keep 2 Brits in the 15, and the stats testify that there was nothing between them over the 11 meetings. I don't think that anyone can begrudge Coventry their success this year, they have been awesome. It would take a bit more than a few critical posts on here to upset morale surely?
  22. The Czech and German meetings in particular were completely ruined by the track preparation, but there's no point ditching him unless we are guaranteed to get a better racing surface once he's gone. I think a more pertinent question would be to work out why the tracks seem to change so much between practice and the meeting itself?
  23. Keep up Steve! He's going to be called "The Cheat" for the next 12 months, before presumably reverting back to "The Beggar" after that.
