  1. Cheers for these...: these are extremely impressive figures (yes, rather like Sam Fox!! ). No mention of '72.. '72 was the first World Final I 'saw'..: not in the flesh but LIVE on national ITV; on a Saturday night!! That's another indication of how big the event was as relatively late as the early '70s!! And amazingly then there was little realistic home interest (ie English rider with chance of winning) in the Final. Though Tiger Louis did do very well on his debut. The stars then were Kiwis who we 'adopted' as Brits...
  2. This says all one needs to know about the GP 'system'. A rider wins the World Under 21s TWICE in a row (an outstanding achievement - and harder won than Pedersen's stroll to the senior title, surely.. ) and it's said he should wait another THREE years before being 'allowed' in the GPs.. If I was said young man I'd say, you can stuff your world championship...: sounds like - and is - merely a old boys' club to me!!!
  3. Well, do you honestly think that if the world title had depended on it, when Hancock looked back and saw Harris, that he wouldn't have taken him wide and held on to win..??!! I thought you were arguing Greg was still world class. World class generosity to ones hosts is what that little incident was about...!!!
  4. A brilliant post, Roberto my friend!! Just for this, I promise never again to suggest that Oxford didn't deserve their glorious 2005 CL triumph!!
  5. Hmm, remind me how many GPs he actually won this year.. One to Adams' two, Crump's two (and should've been three) and Gollob's three. If you think by this, he is completely dominant it can only be because winning the world championship in these days of GPs is truly a matter of the lowest common denominator...
  6. Okay!! And I'll stop having a go at that "full stop" after your name..!!!
  7. Seems like you must've forgotten making this post yesterday, eh..?!
  8. A gentleman called Jeff. (don't ask me why there's a full stop!! ) has taken to perpetuating a myth that, in fact, the World Finals when held at Wembley were poorly attended. Here's one example of this mantra: Does anyone have info. on what sort of crowd figures there were from '36 to '60 and then for the Finals held there after the 'monopoly' was broken up to '81..??
  9. And I think you are a disgrace.. The BSF is meant to be about people sharing opinions and lively debate. You obviously have a massive downer on the old World Final...: I do wonder if you ever went to any; most who did would not agree with your point of view.. But that's what it is: a point of view. Why you think it's acceptable to hurl personal abuse I do not know. I expect the Mods to warn you - but won't be holding my breath.. BTW, if you had such a strong argument you wouldn't resort to being abusive...
  10. Your logic (sic) amazes me...: run this past me again..??! The World Final (sold out Wembley for decades!!) would attract no supporters but an early 'qualifying-type' round would pack out Cardiff 10 times over..?? And you say I'm a "fool"..!!!
  11. If the rider who finishes 9th. every year automatically gets picked they may as well say it's the top nine whio qualify!! And if they did that then I suppose people would be arguing for the rider who came 10th. every year. For the life of me I can't see why (if one accepts that the top eight remain in..) that there aren't then EIGHT positions up for qualifying into. IF because one is in the GPs and can't or won't enter the qualifiers then strikes me as hard luck - after all why should being in the GPs give one an advantage over those not in it. They have all year to secure a top eight position while others outside currentluy have the tiny pickings of only three qualifying places. To try and restore some credibility to a currently totally morally-bankrupt competition they should go with at least 8 qualifying positions. And one of those should surely be reserved for the World U-21 champ...: under the current system if Sajfutdinov doesn't get a slot then one might as well pack up the toys and all go home.. And for the record I certainly think Eddie should get the nod ...: surely no-one believes that Lee Richardson would contribute anything..?!
  12. Wot...: you seriously can't recall an ocassion when Greg Hancok was passed by a 'home' rider on the final bend of a GP final heat..?? Where have you been..: the moon..??!!
  13. Here's a name I'd not heard of, who came up in conversation today, with Ricky Scarboro - coz Ricky bought his first Speedway chassis off this (was he..!) former Hull rider. Any details about Pascal would be mucho appreciated..!!
  14. Not to mention having in "front" of him, someone seemingly unwilling to do what would normally be the case to stop an opponent past.... Maybe, THAT was evidence that Mr. Hancock has given up any ambition actually of winning the World Championships - though I do take the point that, remarkably, he remains firmly a top 4 or 5 rider in this so-called championship series... BTW, I don't really get this general argument... NO-ONE has lost out more due to the GP system than Gollob. He'd have been World Champion, what, at least twice, surely, if the old indiv. World Final still existed and had gone on a four year cycle to Poland... So the 'home advantage' argument against him seems a tad ironic!!
  15. Or even "the top four riders allowed to compete in the Grand Closed Shop"...!!!!
  16. Hmm, back in post #306 you wrote, "... for me, aside from 3, all the world champions were most deserving. Does preferring the GP format automatically mean I despise the world final system?" Well, the answer to that, following the utterly pathetic remarks you've made in your latest posting, must be yes, you certainly do despise the old World Final. Which hardly helps your argument. By the way, the "Conference" (sic) standard Poles in the '70s included not just the winner in '73, but also Edward Jancarz and Zenon Plech...: I don't think many would regard them as sub-standard would they..??! Oh, and would be interesting to know who the "Third man" is, in the unholy trinity of undeserved world champs you've also previously mentioned. I assume the other two are the two non-Scandanvian contintenal Europeans Rob mentions, but who's your third candidate then..?? Surely it must be Mark Loram...: for he won a World title without winning a SINGLE meeting all year!! Oh no, sorry, can't be him coz that was under the much better GP 'system'..!!
  17. Well, it can onnly go "upwards" coz you can't get lower than it is right now!!!
  18. Hmm, 'nail' missing head and landing firmly (and painfully) on thumb, as neither you or 'Jeff.' {sic} have replied to: Make an unsustainable point and you, er, can't sustain it!!!
  19. Now I've sorted out the error on my race card (well it WAS wet!!. ) I've updated the scores as I think should have been awarded championship-wise in the 250cc class too..: Round Four, Buxton Championship Points Ben MORLEY 18 Rhys NAYLOR 16 Daniel I'ANSON 14 Brandon FREEMANTLE 12 Lloyd BARRETT 11 Jack CORNES 10 Tyler GOVIER 9 Connor DWYER 8 Daniel SIBSON 7 Final Championship points and positions score in italics deleted (only applicable where four rounds ridden). 1st Rhys NAYLOR dnr 18 16 16 50 2nd Nathan STONEMAN 18 16 12 dnr 46 3rd.Ben MORLEY 9 dnr 18 18 45 4th. Connor DWYER 16 12 11 8 39 5th. = Daniel I'anson 10 11 dnr 14 35 5th. = Lloyd BARRETT 14 10 10 11 35 5th. = Jack CORNES 11 14 9 10 35 8th. Daniel SIBSON 8 9 dnr 7 24 9th. Brandon FREEMANTLE dnr dnr 14 12 26 10th. Tyler GOVIER dnr dnr 8 9 17 11th. Marc OWEN 12 dnr dnr dnr 12
  20. Actually you were right first time..: the 11 heat and 10 heat formats WERE indeed very like the Bronze Helmet.. For example in the 250cc series leader (and eventual winner), Rhys Naylor had his first ride in heat three and then had his next three in consecutive races (including twice against Dan I'anson) in heats 8 to 10..!! By that time several of the lads had, had all four of their rides! Similarily in the 500cc James Sarjeant had his final three rides in the final four heats and had two rides to go when one of his main challengers John Resch had finished all his rides. It is, of course, tricky to devise a format with fields of 11 and 10 respectively but surely the rides could be a tad more evenly distributed than this..??
  21. Amazing..: somebody here wants to be associated with BSI...!!! Your input (apparently... ) didn't actually, er, "get things done [and] make them happen" when it came to Saturday's GP did it...!!!
  22. You've clearly never been to Twickenham then...: there is not a cat in proverbial's chance that motor sport would ever be sanctioned there..!! And for that matter, that game played by 11-a-side with a round ball has also never been allowed to be played there either!!!!
  23. Where do get the idea that fans would ignore a one-off World Final..??!! You have a go at those who have an alternative view to yours (in the one-off WF versus GPs debate) but there is no possible justification in this surmise of yours. Why would no one turn up to Wembley or Cardiff for a one-off World Final when Cardiff manages what 20-30k for a early round, largely meaningless (in the scheme of things..) GP..?? Your argument makes not one scrap of sense!!
