  1. Cheers for this. Trust Johnnie to have a 'tale' to tell!!
  2. Cheers MM!! This year I know Tom Perry took the helmet off Nielsen... Was that Nielsen's first defence in 2013..? And was that at Mildenhall or at Monmore Green..? Then at Kent in June Steve Boxall beat Perry: I know the details of that one!!!
  3. Can anyone please fill in the details of the Bronze Helmet in 2012 and 2013? The challenges and winners over last season and so far this campaign?
  4. The averages don't begin until riders have had four National LEAGUE matches (NT & KOC matches don't count). IoW (with Adam ever-present) have had three NL matches so far and shan't have their 4th. one until Friday 19th. July away at Coventry. Kent have only had two - the third is this coming Monday, home to Mildenhall; the fourth is Mildenhall away on Sunday 14th. The averages change then clicks in a week later in both cases.
  5. If you read the article you'd see it's clear! No-one's saying the Laurels didn't start until 1953 and no-one's wiping from history the pre-'53 winners! In fact if you note, it says that Ronnie Moore won the event (the Laurels) FOUR times and one of the those (his first) was indeed in 1952; therefore BEFORE '53! So chill out! The anniversary (60 years) was of the WJ Cearns Trophy being twinned with the Laurels - this is both 100% clear in the article and - because of the modern-day Kent club's connections with the Cearns family and this trophy - a very important one to acknowledge! I'm concerned if you worry about this too much gustix, you'll miss your stop at Streatham Common!!
  6. Gustix, Let me explain!! The first Laurels to be combined with the WJ Cearns Trophy WAS in 1953. Since 1953 the Laurels has been known always as the Laurels for the WJ Cearns Trophy - THAT'S the significance of the Diamond Anniversary celebrated this year. This article tells us more: http://www.kentkings.co/news/2013/june/20130625.html A good writer - especially considering he's not been on a bus in Streatham for many a long year now!!
  7. It was completely right to rerun heat 12 but I'm sure everyone in the stadium was baffled by the decision NOT to rerun heat 11...!!
  8. For details of the competition from 1953 onwards (when it became the Laurels/WJ Cearns Trophy) see: http://www.kentkings.co/news/2013/june/20130625.html
  9. In case people are wondering, there IS a thread for the Laurels but - as BSF protocol requires - it's over in the Testimonials, Shared Events , Indiv. part of the Forum.
  10. Well the three brothers are Andre, Benji and Road-racing star Dijon so some interesting naming going on there for a Yorkshire family!!!
  11. That's right - the Canary Islands are not independent and politically is part of Spain. Wikipedia says this of the former CL Pairs & Indiv champ and current Kent CTA Fire King, Benji: "is a Spanish-British motorcycle speedway rider....Compton is the first speedway rider with Spanish citizenship to have signed a contract with a Polish club (Polonia Piła for the 2009 season) So that would suggest he has dual nationality...
  12. Ha, somewhat ironic to see you champion the cause of "unbiased comments"..! Why do you have such a downer on Kent and so many of the young riders? Does you no credit at all.
  13. The way this tie has panned out, I guess, shows that KLYS can get through with Robert just riding the home legs!!!
  14. 'Coming over' is not really accurate considering we're talking about a Norfolk lad who goes to school in Norwich! And 'school' is the operative word - he's at school because he's 15 years of age (and only just at that!), so no issue of him being allowed to ride PL let alone EL! Quite agree - Lewis Rose is doing really well and deserves a great deal of credit.
  15. Cheers - I can understand the logic. The system though, massively favours a team who picks low average riders who over-achieve against those whom pick high averaged (in the first place) riders.. I'd love to know the EXACT rule and formula that saddled Stevie with an 11.38 average, though; coz I've pored over the rule book and can see nothing which justifies the maths of 11.38...
  16. Thanx. By 'like for like' des that mean at season start's average or current average though..?
  17. It's actually (rain-offs excluded..) 8th July when Steve would get to 4 NL matches and so 7 days after that is the 15th. (when Stoke visit) - not sure if the new, lower average would take effect in that match though. Perhaps the match after? What I'm not clear on though, is how average changes affect others in a team. So for example at Kent we have a rider given a crazily high average (11.38) and so this affects the remaining points available for the lower order riders. At, say, IoW they have a rider of 3.00 who's scoring massively: Adam Ellis. When Adam reaches 4 matches in the NL and his average is recalculated, this will be somewhere near the ten mark I'd guess. That would put the Islanders total way over the 40 mark but it DOESN'T mean they're forced to drop riders to get back to 40. Nor should it - as that would punish success and also discriminate against some riders because of the success of others. But then if that's the case, does it follow that Kent can or can we not stregthen based on a reduction in Boxall's CMA..? It is all pretty confusing...
  18. Can anyone let me know who the two youngsters were out practicing after the Storm vs. Kent meeting on Friday? I think one was James Shanes - but can someone confirm who the two lads were?
  19. Averages can't change until FOUR league matches ridden. Yesterday was the CTA Fire Kings' and therefore Steve's second NL match. Won't get to four until July 6th. Then not sure when they change; but if it's not 'til the end of that month, we're looking at Steve not getting a realistic average until August!!
