  1. Looking for some info. on this rider.. Is this the same Pete Smith who rode previously for Poole..??
  2. Er, how can you prove it at the highest level until you're given a chance to do so..?! After all, as there's no proper World Individual Championship anymore (just a closed-shop GP series) then unlike, say, Collins, Lee & Carter of the past who could use their ability when still young to get there (ie the highest level), the likes of Tai, Ben, James and Ed need to get picked in the World Cup.. And as I said before it's physically impossible for them to do any worse..!
  3. Absolutely!! Many cinemas have this 15 and you pay adult prices too.. The fact of the matter is that the school leaving age was raised to 15 in, wait for it..!, 1944... (it went up to 16 in 1973) - so from 1944 it has been unacceptable on any moral or legitimate grounds to class a 15 year old as if an adult when charging admission or fares etc. Like you say..: why, this time last year nearly everyone on here was cooing over Chris Harris as a future World Champ based on Hancock ushering him past on the final bend of the Cardiff GP..!!! As for Thursday, seems to me NONE of yesterday's quintet have any justification to be involved. We will 100% lose with them. Go for Kennett, Woffinden, Wright, Barker & Bridger and you'll see a team fighting to their last to get thru'. That may not be enough but at least they'll give it their all AND signal a future for GB Speedway..: coz there doesn't seem much of a one right this minute....
  4. There's only EIGHT teams in the division..: so it would be a nonsense, frankly, to describe any track as either too far north or too far south. The tracks are, er, where they are!! Scunny did an excellent job staging the Pairs before so it would have my vote (and I'm based in the south!!) for the Fours!! Though don't get me wrong, so would Plymouth!!!!
  5. With all the PL matches the Potters have had rained of, the 16/8 date has now been given over to restaging one of those. Vs. IOW, I think.....
  6. Anyone know where Rounds Two onwards are and when..??!!
  7. With all due respect but there's NOTHING controversial in my book about Eddie & Tai being in the GB squad; but I really can't see how Oliver Allen warrants selection.. It's a sorry state of affairs if we have to pick a rider just to grab home track advantage in a qualifier...
  8. Aagghh!!! Thanx - I think I may have got Ben's name wrong before in that case!!!
  9. Can I just say that Scorpio's last two postings have been among the best and certainly the most evocative I've ever read on this Forum.. This sums it up doesn't it: Speedway tracks were where we went with our families; where we met friends and even future spouses. Those responsible for closing down tracks (and YES, I am talking about you Messrs GRA at Wimbledon ) should hang their heads in shame.. But am I alone in believing that we will have soon-ish a fantastic opportunity to bring Speedway back to London E15..?! Surely the overkill on sports stadia about to spring up in and around Waterden Rd. c/o the 2012 Olympics can leave us with one we can claim for our own..?? Now THAT would be some reunion!!!
  10. "Squire"..??! That's an unusual name. Good job he never got knighted (hmm, our 'Split's record wasn't really knighthood material!! ) as that would've got confusing.. A Knight AND a Squire... Sounds like one of those Canterbury Tales (and no, I don't mean the type Johnnie Hoskins wrote in the Kingsmead prog.!!)
  11. Ah - not for the first time - I stand corrected!! Mind you, I got this info. from Bob Miller's announcement.. And I'm surprised coz us announcers are NEVER wrong..: well, not often..!! Thanks.
  12. My first visit of the season to the track formerly known as Arena!!! Anyhow, unlike anyone else I can be bothered to report back on the pre-meeting Junior racing.. All races, three laps.. Ht1) Marc Owen; Rhys Naylor; Ben Worley; Lawrence Barber 47.3 Ht2) Marc Owen; Rhys Naylor; Ben Worley; Lawrence Barber 46.6 Ht 3) Marc Owen; Ben Worley; Rhys Naylor; Lawrence Barber 47.8 Before and after heat 3 first UK track appearance of Alex Davies, sixth in the Under 16s Australian championship. Well done to the Lakeside management for putting on the junior racing even though the Sky cameras were there and it was an earlier start..!
  13. I beg your pudding!! THREE tracks..??!! I have of course your books and you know how observent I normally am.. This fact must've slipped my attention..: rather like those pesky red lights!!!
  14. Shouldn't that read three tracks - as hasn't there been two entirely separate circuits at RH..???
  15. And should have been World Champ... Am I alone in hoping that Tomas himself capitalises on what I understand (with my limited knowledge/interest in the so-called GPs) has been a good start in the series which now carries the title of the World Championship and becomes the champ this year. Empirically, it's indisputable Gollob IS the best rider never to be World Champ....
  16. Hmm, so 'used' the book triples in value..?? What in gawd's name are they using it for..??!!
  17. And you had to be careful then not to disturb the fella extinguishing the gas lights when you got off the horse-drawn night tram service..!!
  18. Like another great pair of veterans, George Barclay and Colin Gooddy, he achieved the pinnacle of any Speedway rider's career by riding for Crayford; and thus satisfied, retired!!!
  19. Actually, not strictly the case, as 'Mark' is Buzz's middle (but preferred...) name!! He was christened, if that's how you want to put it, Dermot!! And born 44 years ago this very day!! Happy birthday, Buzz!!!
  20. Or Sprouts Elder as I know him, eh, speedy..??!! Am I the only person to notice that this new mag's original cover date is Buzz's birthday..??! Yep, thought so..!!
  21. Mark Thyme..?? That's a good 'un..: though not in the class of Correy Dore!!!
  22. To clarify, Sittingbourne were third due to a faster heat winning time than Scunthorpe (there being not enough time for the 3rd. place race-off). Massive well done to Deano & Jerran!!! :approve:
  23. No, but Chris Hunt's mum recently let the cat out of the bag to me that the Huntsman actually appeared at God's own Speedway track riding for Milton Keynes back in 1982. Chris had kept this from me but I checked the programme and 'tis true!! He failed to score but then he was in good company as the mighty Kestrels won 76-20...: the biggest ever score in the 16 heat format!! What amused me when Chris' mum was talking about this, she asked me if I'd ever been to Crayford!! Hmm, methinks she hadn't been paying attention to all those DonsMags '02-'05!!!
