  1. You are really getting on my nerves.. All you EVER do is be rude and hurl insults. Try reading the points made and responding to them, because frankly m8 at the moment you're making a complete show of yourself....
  2. You're not really being ignored, mick.. It's just that a "debate" about Polish World Champs (real and 'imagined'..!!) is raging on the following..: http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/ind...p;#entry1400938
  3. Hmm, but not Poles still based in Poland... They had to leave Poland permenantly did they not, to ride in the BL. It was later (about '75 or '76) when the likes of Plech were able to come and ride here with the Polish authorities' blessings... A shame that Szczackiel (thanx for help with the spelling BTW!!! ) wasn't among those; but I do think it was more in Poland itself rather than elsewhere that he was "out of favour". His face somehow didn't fit as the comment about him nearly always being left out of the WTC team suggested....
  4. Spot on... Sport is meant to be about entertainment and excitement isn't it..? That's from the spectator point of view.. As a test of competitors too, the highest level of sport is all about rising to the challenge of a massively pressurised competition.. Take for example the Olympics track and field...: no second chances there..! The GP is significantly easier from that point of view...: mess up one race, several races...: never mind..: plenty of time to recover in future Rounds.. The World Final was the ULTIMATE test and was also massively tense and exciting. And that applied whether in a "field" in Germany or in the world's most famous stadium (Wembley). Thankfully the huge majority of the one-off Finals were in superb stadia (Wembley, Ullevi, Katowice etc.) rather than the oft-mentioned Nordens of this world...
  5. I think there were two parts to the Sczkaiel problem (as well as the fact I STILL can't spell his name!! ). One was that back then, of course, Poles couldn't ride club Speedway outside of their country and so he was an unknown quantity entirely outside of his own backyard and had very limited opportunities to improve on that.. It didn't help that he bombed out entirely on the two ocassions he came here (both in '73) riding for the Polish national side... The other was more 'political'. The Poles were determined to see Zenon Plech win in the '73 Final but it didn't go to 'plan'; and I think that poor hapless Jerzy took a fair bit of flak internally for that. I always think his face on top of the rostrum tells a story. No smiles at all...: just a worried expression on his mush which suggests, "I'm in a lot of trouble here..."... I think he's gone on record much later saying something along these lines himself.. I take the point about his Pairs maximum but the fact does remain that he is the only rider, IMHO, who stands out on the list of World Champs as really not fully deserving of that accolade... And over so many years of the one-off final that ain't bad... It is a shame that the likes of Eddie Jancarz, Plech and of course, Gollob never became Polish World Champs coz they would have richly deserved to have done so....
  6. Or indeed here: http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/ind...p;#entry1400746
  7. But the truth is that Havvy did have a VERY good year in 1992 - winning all of the major rounds on the way to the Final and then the Final itself in Poland... I don't disagree with your defence of Muller, Rob, but in 1992 Gary Havelock was most certainly a fully-deserved World champ.... Again I note the rudeness of those who defend the GP system.. Let's get this straight once and for all, those who argue in favour of the one-off World Final are NOT harping back to the past ("living in a cave", "talking rubbish", "have no brain"...: all rude comments made on this thread alone... ) - we have a point of view that says that the EVENT would be far, far more exciting than the current rather insipid way of deciding the champion AND would test the mettle of riders facing the ultimate test of skill and extreme pressure to perform on the night in a way the current system simply doesn't.... I say it again, IF the GP system was so clearly better than the World Final then why do those who support it nearly always resort to insulting those with an alternative point of view....
  8. Can see that ytou're full of festive spirit...!!?? Anyhow, check out the following link for the MSN report on the meeting. THEY are interested even if you're not!!!!! http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/sport/sp...mp;R=EPI-105268
  9. Can anyone give details of the career of Tony Primmer..? Rode for a number of GB clubs...: was he an Aussie or perhaps from South Africa..??? Asking as Tony popped up this past weekend at the STUK Xmas Cracker meeting at Scunny.. Which doubtless gives the anoymous, over-zealous Mod out there an excuse to delete this thread!!!
  10. No - the only way you get an "unfair result" in an indiv. meeting is the crazy idea of having a 'Final' after everyone has met each other across the 20 heats.. If the World Final was so unfair how come Ivan Mauger won it six times, Fundin 5 times; Briggo four times, Olsen, 3 times.. (and between them finished countless other times on the rostrum..): were these riders not the best in the world..??!!!
  11. Sorry about the periods of delay. I do agree with you these are bad from a spectator point of view - especially when so cold. Full marks to all those fans who did attend (especially Bob C's heroic effort coming up from the Dorset coast.. ). The reality is that this was a "competitive practice" event and I guess the club's line would be that, by definition, this means it's predominantly for the riders; though better organisation certainly should be the case.. Anyhow, the New Year's Trophy event panned out as follows: Richard Andrews 3 3 3 3 3 15 Geert Myer 3 3 3 1 3 13 Ben Morley 3 2 3 2 3 13 Lee Lingham 3 3 2 3 Fx 11 Phil Spencer 2 1 2 3 3 11 Theun Veldhuizen 2 2 3 2 2 11 Ray Tillman 2 3 0 1 2 8 Marcel Maas 1 1 2 2 2 8 Gert Ollie 0 2 1 2 1 6 Rob Snow 1 2 1 1 1 6 Dennis Cairns 0 R NS 3 2 5 Henk de Jonge 1 1 2 0 1 5 Chris Neame 0 1 1 1 NS 3 Arthur Sharp R R R NS NS 0 Mark Bibby injured in practice
  12. Thing is Hump., me & you (and others) can have a reasoned discussion on the merits or demerits of this (and other) subjects, but then there are people who respond to a thread with a comment "you should of (sic) asked for a brain for xmas"..!!!
  13. And you need to learn how to read!!! Exactly why is it that you can claim universal right to saying that progress only lies with one idea (the GPs) whilst others are considered living in the past with another idea (a season-long competition of qualifiers, culminating in a one night Final )..? As I pointed out in my earlier thread, there are many examples of change in Speedway history (one being from the World Final to the GP) and many examples later of either changing back or changing to another idea or format. There's a kind of fascism among some supporters of the GP system which forbids any others an alternative view.. And it does you no credit....
  14. You are absolutely spot on Rob. What makes me laugh are all those people who say, the GPs are here to stay/the play-offs are here to stay/the sudden-death races at the end of a top indiv. meeting are here to stay etc. If this laissez faire attitude really did exist then surely the old World Final would never have been replaced by the GPs in the first place... Things DO change. The sudden death final race was brought into the closest thing we have now to a proper World Championship, the U-21 World Final - delivered a largely-seen-as-unfair result and was scrapped. The Premier League title last year was NOT decided by a play-off and won't be again in '09; so that (also unfair) system has been scrapped in Britain's largest league. So tell me again, that these things when brought in are "here to stay"...!!!!! The sooner we end the closed shop that is the GP system and bring back excitement and meritocracy to a truly open World Championship then the sooner we halt the currently terminal decline in the sport... For it's those who merely repeat the mantra that the "GPs are here to stay" who have no vision for the future of the sport NOT those who support the return to a proper World Championship....
  15. Apologies for misleading previously. Day club membership tomorrow (as it's Christmas!!) is FREE...!!!! Good luck especially to all our Dutch & Belgian visitors..: should be a cracking meeting...
  16. Cheers Shadders. I posted details of this here a few days ago and a Mod deleted it.. They've since deleted all my attempts to get an explanation as to why.. Glad your posting hasn't suffered the same fate. Yes spectators are welcome - though need day club membership - see someone in charge down at the track!! And see you there!! D. PS I'll be less cold as will be in the box on mic duty!!!
  17. All the best Scunny.. I most certainly WASN'T chastising you for putting anything in the "wrong" section. This is 100% fine where it is... I'm afraid that my veteran status on the BSF buys me no favours - as I said if I'd posted this it would've been eradicated before anyone had the chance to read it..!! Any chance that I'll ever get an explanation as to why my threads keep getting deleted..!!
  18. Hmm, you've done well to have evaded the Mods this long..!! I can 100% assure you if I'd posted this in this section it would've been deleted within minutes!! Perhaps - while I've briefly their 'attention' - the Mods concerned could explain exactly why the thread about the Dutch riders at Sittingbourne on Sunday was deleted AND then so was my request for an explanation..?? Goodwill to all men..?? Hmm, seems in short supply in some quarters... Talking of things "short" (in this case 'short track'.. ) - full details of the Cracker meeting are here: http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/ind...p;#entry1396271
  19. 'Speedway' is, though, a 'trade name' as in "International Speedways", who promoted dirt track racing in some of the nations top stadia from 1928 onwards. IMHO, what happened at High Beech and Droylsden and Greenford was various types of dirt track motorcycle racing. It was only when floodlight, city centre stadia started staging the sport that it became "Speedway". Ironically, there are so few of such venues left that it may be that by the time we get to the 90th. anniversary of High Beech we will be more or less back to the "dirt track racing" model we stated with...
  20. Such a "good location" indeed, that the world has decided to stage the Olympics there!!!! Methinx, though, that transport links for 2012 might just about be better than that walk via Ruckholt Rd. from Leyton tube!!!!
  21. Details will be coming soon... An individual and planned to be Stoke's opener in March.... I hope you'll be there...: just don't outbid for for the race jacket!!!!!
