Totally agree Dean, not many really know what is going on so posts like that don't help anybody.

If you want to go and see a speedway meeting again in its purest form, come and watch a meeting with the Kent Eagles at Iwade. If you do, message me on here and I will get you 2 free tickets, you never know, it may rekindle your love for the sport once more.

It should be, but never has

Riders are more interested in earning money, club focus comes second but important.
-
exactly that, we can strip the cost of racing back to the basics but then riders will start spending again to get an advantige to get ahead. Then the circle starts again, its the nature of motorsport and speedway can't afford it currently.
-
Agree, but the riders need more and more money to be able to compete, its a no win situation, we can't just change the sport back to the times when you can run an upright and be competitive on it.
-
You make some good and valid points. This is a major problem in the sport, there are kids coming into the sport now who have really good backing and are sitting on rocket ships. the only way young talented kids will make the grade is to match this and then if and when they do move up a level, they find the established older riders are also on well maintained top quality bikes. So, in essence, every rider is after more money from the promotors to keep up equipment to a level to compete, thus teams are paying more money out to riders that they can't afford and in turn, riders need this money to compete on a level playing platform. Spiralling costs for a rider is a vicious circle that is bringing the sport to its knees.

Ban the rider then, not cause havoc for 4 teams, doesn't make sense this.
-
Has he been replaced by both teams now? Thought he was 'injured'

100 % this, He got hit from behind by Pijper (I think in a British U21 a couple of years ago) and then got interviewed after and dropped the F word about the incident. Never been the same rider since and has been doing this for a couple of years now. It's a shame as he has the ability to beat any rider out there today but if he can't mix it and wont race, that can't be changed.

Just for your information, I worked with Adam Shields for 10 years (in the pits, working with and attracting sponsors, running his website and the logistical side) Since he retired ive sponsored Cameron Woodward Georgie Wood Kyle Newman and this year I sponsor Kent Eagles Charlie Wood Vinnie Foord I am also part of the team that tried to get speedway back to Arlington so I have a good perspective on the finances that involve running a rider and a club.
-
Sorry WMV, but I don't believe that at all. Ive worked with a top level rider for almost 10 years albeit a while ago and those figers just don't stack up. Since then, Ive sponsored many riders over the last 10 years since I stoped working directly for a rider (free of charge of course) and they wouldn't do it for that.

Ipswich ‘Witches’ vs King’s Lynn ‘Stars’ - Monday 5th May
M.D replied to StarBoy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I know this too well, I worked with Adam Shields for 9 seasons, injury took its tool and at the end of his time in the sport he was riding within himself, didn't want to mix. I was so happy when he called it a day and has a happy life back in Australia including becoming world kettle ball champion a couple of years back. -
Riders are no longer considered assets of clubs
M.D replied to bigdave's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Yes it does, But if a club closes unexpectedly then fines are first imposed by the BSPL, any money left over goes towards debt. You have to take into consideration that if a club closes mid season, it will have a massive finiacial effect on other clubs, the BSPL will try and limit this effect.
