Would you blame them? they got done by Ian Jordan for a lot of money and speedway is not a great business model these days. Arlington stadium has been in existence since 1928, it has been updated over the years but is a money pit. I don't know but they must make a bit with the stocks, why go through the aggravation of allowing a promotion to run speedway with another risk? They are first and foremost, a business family. -

The stadium is still operating for cars, the track is still there but would need a fair bit of work by now. Would take a fair bit of investment now to get tractors, starting gate, air fence and every other thing to run a meeting. As I have said before, and we have tried, The Dugard's won't run speedway at the venue. -

Agree, You only have to look at my football club, Bristol City Owned by Stephen Lansdown, worth around 2 billion, the clubs runs at around a deficit of about £20 million a year, he puts the money in and turns it into share capital, think he's put about £240M over the years. He's an astute business man who owned the investment company Hargrieves Lansdown but why would he do this if not for ego or building a legacy, and you won't get that out of speedway.. -
The Dugard's won't budge on this.

Promoters who were characters over the years

Got a few stories about Bob, especially When Adam Shields and Jon Cook left for Lakeside.. -
Because riders don't want this, they want the cash they get from doubling up so they can make it pay. Riders are holding the sport to ransom and that is detrimental to the future of the sport in this country.

I hate gambling, my step son is an addict and its wrecked his life. But riddle me this if we get into bed with gambling,, race fixing. I worked with Adam Shields for many years and the year he left Eastbourne for Lakeside he took a booking to guest for Greg Hancock with Reading at Arlington. Adam was on form and it worked out if Reading conceded a 4-2 in heat 7 they could bring Adam into heat 8 on a double points score. A rider had a retirement in heat 7 with a Reading rider getting a second, Adam went out in heat 8 and got the 6 points. Now, is that race fixing in the bookies eyes or as I feel, a tactical move?

The Dugard's don't want speedway at Arlington.

He did get offers but very much liked working with Jon COOK.
-
First season he had in the Elite, scored 20+1 from reserve for Eastbourne, loved the place.
-
One story I will tell, Adam was riding for Lakeside away at Swindon. I went to Pauls house in Broadstone, Poole. Adam collected us in the van and said 'its a lovey day, I actually feel like riding my bike today' Lakeside won with Adam getting paid 14 from 5 beating Leigh Adams twice and once from behind, happy days!
-
I worked with Adam Shields for 9 seasons along with Paul Viney in the pits, had some great and some not so great times. Wouldn't have swapped it for the world.
-
Agree, unless your rider is riding at 1 or 2 you may get to see heat 1 but other than that its the 4 or 5 rides your rider is in. Its is an adrenalin buzz working in such an environment and after the rider I worked with retired, watching from the stands just no longer gave me the same buzz watching..

That would be great and I hope that they are being proactive and targeting them. At this point, I would think coverage is more important than any monetary gain.
-
I was part of the consortium that tried to bring Eastbourne back and we looked at every league we could enter. Whilst for obvious reasons I can't say anything, it was a good amount. I do hope they can get another deal together but can't really see who with.

IF TNT have pulled out, that's a big chunk of income lost to the teams at the top table.
