Moving Forward.

speedway has been desperately short of a"white knight " for decades the amount of time ,effort and money to boost the sport has always been vastly underestimated I suspect WBD have now learnt this ! -
Cardiff GP 2025 Cancelled
FAST GATER replied to Phil's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I feel there this could be good for the sport the ,attedance was greatly reduced from that of years ago at Cardiff so the demand for tickets will be less .This will allow for the reduced capacity of the NSS ,at the end of the day I go for the racing we have in the NSS one of the finest tracks in the world . The other thing is if Bewley dose not cleanup both nights ( 40 points) he's never going to be WC Imo ! -
Cardiff GP 2025 Cancelled
FAST GATER replied to Phil's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
IMO we should give B/Vue a chance it is one of the finest tracks in the world ,I went to Cardiff for a number of years but cost and the track itself were the main reasons I stopped going . -
Starke is a mystery to me a few years ago his scoring just dropped off a cliff ,no big injury if I am not mistaken his form just fell away and has never recovered !

Riders with unique styles/characteristics.
FAST GATER replied to Zagarmeister's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Joe was a great rider, IMO he and John Jackson ( he had quite a unique style himself ) were the two greatest riders to have ridden in the old NL of the 70's . -
Peter is/was a good rider but in recent years he has job staying on the bike at times ,IMO his best years arre behind him but I do hope he proves me wrong .
-
I agree he should be punished for crimes he committed but can't help thinking what a waste ,he was at times a great rider to watch and wasted an opportunity many never get !
-
He will have broken the terms of early release which mens he will now probably have to serve the full setence handed down to him in the first place .

i'm sure BZ will adjust his strategy accordingly ,I can only assume it is aimed at him as the rest of the riders a fairly evenly matched IMO. -
The most dangerous riders
FAST GATER replied to Youhave2minutes's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I would go along with that riders seem obsessed with power and IMO the likes of Poland are able to build tracks to accommodate these rocket machines .In this country most of the power is needed to get off the start ,even then this will vary from rider to rider naturally taller heavier riders will need more than shall we say shorter lighter riders. Scott Nicholls has said this is one of the reasons he has always struggled on big fast tracks ,the natural power to weight ratio . Look at the GP's BZ , Hancock compared to Freddie or Doyle who are natrally going to be heavier need more power to get the bike off the start. That power is then unmanageable during the race on many occasions, hence why we see bikes picking up and heading for the fence ! -
They look ugly without covers on !
-
Used to be quite often problems with the mag ,some said that one's put on by Jawa in the 70's were off cement mixers .
-
Lovely bike( IMO best looking engine of all time ) always wanted to own and race a Jap powered bike ,now i suspect I will just buy one and polish it to look at !
-
I remember in the 70's JacK Millen found out that Ivan Mauger had cut away part of the throttle slide on the Dellorto carb in a certain way ,one of our riders did it but it made no difference what so ever as far as he was concerned
-
We asked nothing our riders except that they do their best in some cases all they had to purchase was their racing attire , the final straw was when we just bought two brand new jawa four valves and a month later one rider put his own weslake in our chassis . He said the Jawas would make good door stops and were no longer competitive the weslakes hadn't been out five minutes !
-
Speedway is team sport in name only as Dean says , I have witnessed you get a young lad (in most cases ) who ride will ride anything with an engine and two wheels at a training school where you break the ice off the puddles .5yrs later he won't ride if he hasn't got a GP standard bike the track is not like billard table ,I have seen this so many times . Rider demands are why we pulled out of sponsoring what was in the end a thankless expensive pass time .

Steve Weatherley -
I remember we used to have new tyres (Dunlops were in favour then) and change to a cut tyre if the said rider felt it was an easier race to win ,we worked on the basic that we set the bike up out of the starts or to suit the track if both were achieved it was a very rare occasion . We only started doing much to the ignition timing during meetings when we were using Weslakes .
-
I would agree to a large extent but that can be said for most m/cycle sport ,the riders that have always stood out to me are the likes of Nikki Ped and Doyle IMO they have a slightly awkward (to me ugly style ) always seem to be on the edge fighting the bike looking I think almost as if they are going to take a highsider any moment .Other riders look like they are in an armchair Hancock , PK and Jack Holder spring to mind , I think Fricke , Bewley have a lovely styles but there no mistaking BZ his is IMO unique .

Sad news RIP Len
