  1. Can't remember if it was 2015 or 2016, but in one of the close seasons he was made a Somerset asset.
  2. What a bizarre one. Just shows how pointless the asset system is too.
  3. That makes no sense at all - once the first set of averages come out the average total for each team will be somewhere around the 42.50 mark. That would allow certain teams who have had a bad start to the season to be able to swap a reserve for someone like Holder! Financial suicide and also pretty farcical. Dropping the points limit at the first set of averages is the right thing to do. It will allow the weaker sides to strengthen up still but not drastically.
  4. Isn't every side full of 2016 PL riders plus 1 or 2 others? Including Poole aswell.
  5. Once they've been assigned a converted average - stick to it maybe?
  6. It's quite ironic isn't it? Nearly the same team as last year which nearly everybody had to finish around the lower parts of the table - just imagine if lightning struck twice!
  7. Who said this was anything like the Elite League? I could understand the outcries of horror if the previous Elite league was such a success... But it wasn't really was it? Belle Vue, Leicester, Eastbourne, Lakeside and Birmingham all pushed to breaking point in recent seasons in the previous Elite League format. Sustainable speedway has to be the way to go and if that means losing the top riders in the world and Grand Prix riders then so be it quite frankly!
  8. Unfortunately I can't listen to it at work - can anybody summarise what he says?
  9. I think it's fair to say Somerset are testing the waters on their first season in the top tier, and quite simply, why not?! They've stuck to the majority of the title winning side from last year which is a rare occurance itself in Speedway to show such loyalty. It's a shame we haven't got a 'big' name at the top of the riding order as someone like Kildemand would of been great to watch at the Oak Tree but hey ho. People who never came to the Oak Tree last year probably won't appreciate just how good Tungate is here now. He is mighty quick and could probably beat just about anyone at any level around here. All of these comparisons against Poole are abit unrealistic. I don't think anybody expected us to go up a league and walk that too. I'm excited about seeing some new teams, slightly different riders and a whole new challenge. We had won just about everything the old PL had to offer so time to take the plunge. I think we might get some trouncings away from home (I also made that prediction last year!) but will more than hold our own at home - which is what 95% of fans ask for. To be entertained and win your home meetings. Jake Allen has the potential to kick on big styley so won't be at reserve for too long, so having Wright, Starke or Allen at reserve all season is far from being a bad thing.
  10. I think you must be dilussional if you think anybody will beat Poole to the league title at this stage of the game. For what it's worth I don't think we are going to be winning many trophies but I'm looking forward to some epic meetings at the Oak Tree with some of the top riders in the country visiting. I think we will take some beating at the OTA still, although may struggle at certain away tracks. Great news that we are away to Poole on good Friday, that's pencilled in the diary already. That is the big strong point with our side - that we will have a very handy reserve all season long.
  11. Don't think many expected Holder, nor wanted him - He'd be there for a season and go back to Poole next year on a nice reduced average....
  12. Hardly - It's basically the same team that romped to the double last year minus Wilson Dean and Wajknecht and replacing them with Hougaard and Graversen.
  13. I don't think you need two strong reserves. 1 is all that's needed. I'm hoping it's Tungate, Heat leader and a weaker reserve personally.
  14. Afraid not as I am already 'booked up' - so it'll be the Facebook/Twitter page for me!
  15. Given how many seasons he has signed him up, I would say he has been very loyal but all good things have to come to an end eventually.
  16. He was our number 1 when we won the league and finished top of our averages - Also rider of the year too
  17. I think Tungate was probably the first name on the team sheet.
  18. Sedgmen and Barker... Some of these suggestions are going worse aren't they?! Completely understand why Wilson-Dean is likely to be included but it almost makes it abit pointless to have two stronger reserves, if we could use the available points for an out and out no.1... That's a big IF on its own as there isn't exactly masses of options at no.1.
  19. Fair enough, I wasn't there so didn't realise he spoke so highly of him
  20. I did wonder whether Somerset would do the double header with Poole on Good Friday.
  21. See the post below - plus isn't Batchelor still in the country and doesn't return to Australia?
  22. Still wouldn't mind seeing that team plus Batchelor.
  23. I'd agree with that. Damn right stupid, as it's relevant to just about any club or any rider who achieves an 8.00 average or more, so I'm failing to see the point of the first post.
  24. Maybe he needs knocking down a peg or two, but he has the potential to be a top rider in this league whereas Gomolski is more likely to struggle away from home and on their top day he isn't as good as Batchelor.
