  1. Belle Vue preview: https://www.bellevue-speedway.com/blog/latest-news-2/meeting-preview-colts-aiming-for-a-good-friday-238
  2. The interesting point in the official referee's scorecard is that neither rider was disqualified in heat 2. They were just registered as having fallen.
  3. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the real source of entertainment. That being the two minute clock. You'd have thought they would have checked it worked correctly prior to the meeting. Repeated attempts to get it stop from starting at 3 minutes were successful late on only for it to then to insist on starting from 40 seconds. Ironically, I felt the meeting did actually move along quite well.
  4. I think it's a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't. The track was clearly well packed with little loose shale. Standard practice when the weather is wet and unpredictable. Put more shale on and it rains and it quickly turns into a quagmire.
  5. That is correct. I hate to bang on about my own favourite gripe, but the only chance of dealing with "uneven" gates during a meeting is men with rakes.
  6. Bomber said tonight that did 105 meetings last year. That's some schedule
  7. I was waiting for that one. But seriously. You have to admire the bloke. He was riding for the Rest of the World on Saturday, in California. For anyone just thinking of going tonight, you should. These meetings are always interesting. The Q&A session in particular.
  8. Bomber is the guest at the Nuneaton Speedway Supporters Club meeting tomorrow, Tuesday 20th February. Brandon Club, starting at 8pm. Main Street, Brandon, Coventry, CV8 3HW
  9. When Phil Morris was the guest at the Nuneaton Speedway Supporters Club recently, he did say that transponders would be in use this year.
  10. Gary Moon was a brief but respected acquaintance of mine. He was a classy and successful driver. In return for a favour, concerning the loan of equipment from a driver I passengered for, he spannered for that driver and me at Birmingham speedway. I have rarely felt so humble. His passing was a real tragedy.
  11. I fully agree with all your comments. Two confident and professional youngsters, without being cocky. For the record the evening with Bomber is on Tuesday 20th February at 8:00 p.m. The venue is Brandon Club, Main Street, Brandon, Coventry, CV8 3HW https://www.nuneatonspeedwaysupportersclub.co.uk/
  12. A dress rehearsal? Are the promoters going to "adjust" the Championship points limit to allow Workington to sign Freddie for their final team spot? I'll get my coat.
  13. I'd have had Stan in my team but I don't fancy your chances with Olly.
  14. It could mean (and almost certainly will before very long) that the GP winner won't be the top scorer for the weekend. Now where have I heard a discussion like that before?
  15. Not sure about the wall story. But he did dislocate his shoulder on numerous occasions. Rick was a real favourite with the Coventry faithful, me included and it's a sad day. RIP Rick
  16. You may be right (sadly). However, this application was appealed all the way to the Secretary of State and rejected on numerous grounds. This gives the faithful, me included, some hope.
  17. Next year (or maybe the one after) when racing returns to Brandon
  18. Great idea. Just be aware that the Save Coventry Speedway group have been at it for over 7 years. And the job is only half done.
  19. We know it doesn't mean that speedway is coming back to Brandon necessarily. But it's a massive victory for the SCS team and all the hard work they've put into this. They were facing a seemingly insurmountable set of problems from a company with huge resources to throw at the problem. But right is right. This is a morally correct decision.
  20. Nuneaton Speedway Supporters Club has been going since 1969 and raises much needed funds to support and encourage young British speedway riders. Much of this help is unseen by the average fan. However, it makes a valuable contribution to the future of our sport. I can highly recommend these meetings. They are run in a friendly atmosphere where guests are interviewed and answer questions from the floor. It often provides a fascinating insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of the sport. So come if you can. On what other occasion could you listen to Phil Morris talk about his roles and thoughts about the future in a relaxed atmosphere? And the beer's cheap. What's not to like?
  21. Its interesting to reflect on your comment set against the discussion elsewhere about Poole moving back into the top division. At the time they dropped down, the strength of the two leagues was comparable. Therefore there wasn't a large change in the quality of riders and racing (?) on offer. Surely with the policy change to increase the differential between the two leagues, this is no longer true. Or less so, at least. It will interesting to see if there is an effect on the number of fans through the gate.
  22. Coventry and can I have Coventry. Coventry, of course, and we can't leave out Coventry. Sorry people. I know I/we are not alone in wanting our local club back. But if I can have one New Year wish, please let us have the Bees back. I'll think about the other 19 clubs I want to beat.
