2009 Testimonials
BobC replied to SteveEvans's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Bjarne Pedersen will be having his early in 2009,possibly to open our season. -
Ah,thats it.I knew that name from somewhere! Isnt Madeline Ove's daughter? I remember the match races at Wembley Indoor, against another girl.Wasnt she American? Bobbie Fisher or something like it?
-
So it was. My mistake.
-
Who were the girls at Telford? I know Andrea Cross (Simons sister) rode extremely well, but cant recall the others. Maxine Hill and Lisa Whibberly spring to mind, but not really sure.

Matt did say at the meeting last Wednesday, that he had worked very amicably with Tim Stone over the years. He had helped sort out some riders for Tim,and he also said that he IS working in conjunction with the prospective new promoters. When I want to go to an individual meeting,I take a close look at who is riding. If the riders are reasonably evenly matched,I will go.Generally speaking,I think you will get better actual racing that way. One of the best meetings Ive seen for years was the Young Guns meeting at Poole a few years ago.Absolutely cracking racing.Where were all the so called stars then? With the riders announced so far,I happy that I can expect some good racing. Now,if Matt were to announce 6 GP quality riders were riding,I would be worried. Not that I dont want to watch them, but it would almost inevitably lead to a 'top heavy' finishing order. Ive seen enough speedway to firmly believe that having a top quality field, doesnt always produce great racing.Lets face it,there have been some pretty dire GP's over the years! (There has also been some superb ones as well) Keep the riders to the level so far,and Im sure we will be treated to some great racing. The bottom line is........its OUR meeting, not anyone elses. Its Matts money on the line,so he invites whoever he likes. Personally,Im looking forward to it.

Canterbury Speedway....Being greeted by the Great Johnnie Hoskins. The GB U21 meetings.Dick and the mob press ganging you to buy programmes. Announcers.....Ted Sear(Hackney),Jack Knott(Poole),Graham Hambly(Exeter) Swindon....Yep,those cheese n onion rolls,Martin Ashby in full flight round the Abbey. Poole....The Knott family.I never did appreciate how good they were, till they sold out to Fearman. Christer Lofqvist, still my favourite. Weymouth....Training school meetings with Wolves and Eastbourne. In fact, passed my driving test on a Wednesday, and got my one and only(so far) speeding ticket driving to Eastie on the Sunday! Belle Vue....Going to the BLRC and fair.I even beat Simmo and PC in one race on the Karts, both from the back too! Trying to beat Chris Pusey and those mad Poles on the horse racing.Oh,and 'the Bobs' switchback. Racing with lights that covered the track only,as opposed to floodlights. Great days......

Popped in for an hour on my way to Rye House. Good array of bikes on show. Even met up with a Poole legend from the 50's,Bill Holden. Enjoyed my 'track walk',including the concrete starting area. Will download a couple of photos later this week. Well done to everyone concerned.

British Speedway Under 15's Championship
BobC replied to Longtracker's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Not sure yet! By the time I get to see Poole vs Lakeside on Monday,it will be 8 meetings in 11 days.Need a few days rest to recover first. If I do make it up there, its quite likely I will pop over to Buxton on the Sunday for your Junior meeting. Be good to thank Jayne personally for her help earlier this season. -

Congratulations to EVERYONE of the youngsters who took part. Also to those who organised everything. Thats the first U15's Final Ive missed in years. However,Weymouth had a VERY important meeting to win the same day! -

Swindon Jrn Meeting 12/10
BobC replied to iceandspeedway's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Well Brendan seems ok with getting there from Rye,as does Smart. They both reckon on about 1.5 hrs. So long as neither are required in ht15,I think they will be ok. -
England V Australia At Under 23 Level!
BobC replied to Trees's topic in International World of Speedway
England seemed to hit the self destruct button.Early indications were that they could win this one.Not sure if it was England relaxing or the Aussies upping their game.Impressive finish by Boycies men. Superb Ht1 win from Jordan Frampton.Very clever ride to outwit Holder.Very fortunate to stay upright in ht10,when he got clattered very hard by Proctor. If Frampton had gone down,Im sure proctor would have been excluded. England Wright....Ht6 apart, cant say I noticed him Frampton....see above Kennett....Good first ride, but couldnt catch anyone after that Barker....battled hard all night, cant fault his effort. His gating though,is crap Bridger....See Kennett Auty....poor,yet to impress me at all since the U15's a couple season ago. Wilson....had a go early on,but faded Australia Holder....couldnt get by Frampton in ht1,then a lesson in immaculate riding,in front or team riding Gathercole....did his job well Batchelor....didnt look happy in ht3,but then eased his way through the rest of the meeting Proctor....in the thick of most of the action, very lucky in ht10 though Doyle....in cruise mode after ht4 Sweetman....some very clever first turns, with in-experience taking its toll Smith....battled hard Only one moan.........didnt notice until after I had eaten, that the programme was for the original date, with an insert. If I had known that,I wouldnt have bought one.Still got the first one! A very enjoyable meeting, all the same.Track was superb, excellent racing,as usual. -

Apologies to Pitstop, and the Freemantle family. It should of course have been BRANDON not Brendan Freemantle. He rode very well, all the same! -

I quite enjoyed this meeting last night. There were one or two scarey moments, although nothing serious. How some of them retained control at times beggard belief. In the 500's,were were all eagerly awaiting ht8,where the unbeaten Garrity and Owen were due to meet, along with,at that point,a little underpar Sarjeant.Sadly it didnt happen. In their haste, both Garrity and Owen touch the tapes, with Garrity having to go back 15 metres. In the rerun,Sarjeant flew round the outside of Owen on turns 1&2 to record an impressive win.Meanwhile Garrity had quickly got into 3rd place, but overcooked the entry to turn 1,2nd lap and dropped a chain. In his first race,Garrity was extremely impressive. His winning time was the fastest of the night,55.2,yet could have been a couple of seconds quicker too.He slowed up on the back straight, and 3rd/4th turns of the Final lap in order not to lap Gibbons.By our reckoning(we were on the back straight),his time would have been in the low 53's. In the 250's Ben Morley was a deserved winner.Smooth and in control at all times.Rhys Naylor has improved a lot since I last saw him race in this class.Never seen Brandon Freemantle till last night, but he rode very well to earn his right to the run off. I genuinely take my hat off to each and every rider out there. Well done. ps: Parsloes: The programme notes didnt make it clear. All it said was that the riders could drop their lowest scoring round, but it didnt qualify if they kept their best 2 or 3 scores. -

Elite League Best Pairs
BobC replied to hyderd's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Might just make this one now. Anyone know the riding order? Not too bothered about whos riding,as Im sure there will be plenty of changes. -
Darcy was always in the Poole team, even though I disagreed with his inclusion. Kyles replacement was Dan Greenwood.Dan seems to be struggling at the moment, for whatever reason.I know both he and his Dad are pulling their hair out trying to work out why.Thats not to take anything away from his efforts which were greatly appreciated. The way the meeting panned out,I am convinced Kyle would have scored more than Dan. I would also like to thank Ipswich for putting the meeting on in the first place. All the lads seem to enjoy the experience .
-
An enjoyable meeting, especially as Poole won with a weakened team!!.Although Kyle wasnt physically with us,he most certainly was in spirit.Missed ya mate.We did it for you! I believe that was Brendans first ever full 15 pt maximum. As for Darcy Ward, awesome performance......again.Its no wonder he had folk round him like bees round a honey pot. I sincerely hope that Shane Hazelden isnt as hurt as it first appears.Very nasty crash. Good to meet up with CrazySue,Badge,PanthersChamps06 and Soph.Best mention Jaybea as well! Special Thanks to Badge for helping me with a problem once the meeting had finished.

4tt Ipswich & Men In Black
BobC replied to Grim Reeper's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
No Tom,you are not correct! Nothing personal against Darcy, but I do not think he should be riding.I have said the same to Team Manager Garry May.Dont get me wrong,he is a smashing lad,and great to watch, and Id love Poole to sign him. I fully support any young English lad who wants to give it a go. The two reasons I will not travel today is the Kyle Newman issue and the inclusion of Darcy. Shame,as it had been in my diary for months, when I first heard about it.
