Poole Pirates Vs Scunthorpe Scorpions 18th August
BobC replied to Shaleshifter's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Yes, no problem. -
The Poole Pirates you refer to are a reenactment group, dressed as Pirates who do an awful lot of charity work. Nothing to do with speedway, I'm afraid.

Me too.

Any update on Archie Freeman, please? -
Pathetic.People pay their money, it's up to them what they do after that. I know of several fans who travelled up. Some of them have work tomorrow too. Pleased we won, of course I am. Not going to gloat over the result. The important aspect is just how many came through the gates to help the club. Fingers crossed it has been a good day for the promotion.

A point is better than nothing, but still feel its points dropped rather than a point gained. Ive noticed that with Danyon. We all said the same thing about no NL to fall back on. Good to see he getting a booking or two with Sheffield. He is very popular with the fans. Always happy and smiling, ready to chat and gives a good interview when on the mic. Already looking at next season, I genuinely hope hes is back.

Before the meeting, I did think we should win this one. However, an excellent choice of guests for Berwick, while Pooles failed, swung this meeting around. Im more annoyed that this one got away with poor management. We had the firepower to win, but Havvy bungled it. Its not the first time Hume has not been given the extra rides his form on the night deserves. However, we still got an away point. Only at Glasgow have we not scored anything away from home. Winning at home and getting at least a point for our aways will keep us at the right end of the table. I certainly dont expect Poole to win every meeting. Just disappointed at the way we lost this one. I hope the win gives you Bandits fans something to be pleased about.

At £20 admission for a double header, thats an absolute bargain. If that doesn't tempt anyone, what will? Sadly, I m unable to make our Northern tour. Would love to be there and meet up with lots of people I know.. -
With the greatest of respect to our guests, yes it will, easily. However, it could turn out in our favour bigtime if Benjamin rides well. After our Northern tour, we only have 3 more away meetings. Ride well in all home fixtures, he could be on a 6/7pts average. But for green sheet purposes, he wouldn't attain a new average, under the 4 home 4 away ruling! Next season would start on his assessed 5pts. Conspiracy theories abound!

One of the few that fit the 3.75 is Kyle Bickley. However, he is riding for Berwick at Redcar on Friday and is of course a Berwick rider, so cant guest for us on Saturday either! Possibly available for us at Newcastle on Sunday though. Maybe Jason Edwards would like some extra rides. He is at Newcastle on Sunday anyway with Plymouth.

Thought it was a fair result. Poole had the better gates early on and surged ahead. Monarchs benefitted from Ht8 onwards. As you say 'swings and roundabouts'. Happy to settle for that result, considering we are not at full strength. Of course, we dont know how our new signing Benjamin Basso will perform. We do however know how our 'Pocket Rocket' Ben Cook will ride. Sadly, our Northern tour this week is a bit too soon for Ben. No complaints from our guests Kyle Bickley and Zach Cook. They both tried hard. Hoping for at least 7pts from our weekend 'up north'. Will be tough getting a point at Armadale though.

Plymouth v Edinburgh Tuesday 3rd August
BobC replied to BobC's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
'People in glass houses shouldnt thrown stones' springs to mind about the state of tracks. Last night the track wasnt good at all. Riders being thrown around in all directions. Very inconsistent. Surprised there wasnt an accident, tbh. Several 1st turn crashes caused because riders were unable to turn properly. Masters in Ht1 lifting and almost put Crump into the refreshment hut. All riders looking uncomfortable and some like bucking broncos. Then we had the track work once Bjarne had been out. Its happened every single meeting this season that Ive been to. (Only missed the Leicester meeting). He always asks for lots of top surface to be removed. It took a fair few heats before the track settled down. Mark and his team must have done almost as many laps as the riders. He does work hard at it and its certainly not like that every week. Not had anything like that at Poole this season at all! Well done to Plymouth for what is probably the shock result of the season.(Other than Poole winning at Leicester of course!) Ht14 had to be seen. Bend one, a 4-2 to Edinburgh, bend 2 5-1 to Plymouth, bend 3 5-1 to Edinburgh, bend 4 5-1 to Plymouth..I genuinely thought that there was going to be a crash, they were all so close. Some seriously hard 1st turns from Masters ,leaving others just enough to stay upright. He had it done back to him in his last 2 rides and gave up in both! Impressed with Thomson, very stylish and got stuck in. Disappointed in Pickering though, expected a lot more. The main difference for Plymouth was having a second reserve scoring points.Edwards rode well and a little unlucky to only have 3 rides. Needs must I suppose. Pedersen, Keleher and Bowtell were excellent value. A deserved win for Plymouth. Once or if Crump gets going around there, someone is going get a right thumping. -
Tonight sees the return of Jason Crump for Plymouth. I genuinely hope he is fit, as when in full flight, he is still very impressive. Going to need every Gladiator on top form to beat the Monarchs. However, as most teams have found out, they are not an easy push over at home. Just when you think you've done enough, they seem to bit back. Jason Edwards will add strength at reserve, which is something they havent had all season. This Edinburgh team are very workmanlike in their approach. A solid outfit that will take some beating. The team to beat for the title in my opinion. Safe journey to all those travelling, enjoy the meeting and look forward to seeing you there and at Poole on Wednesday.

Id rather have a contracted rider than guests. I fully appreciate the efforts of our guests, but we need stability So far our guests have scored 5pts from 2 home meetings and 3pts from 2 away meetings.. The other away meeting we used R/R and scored 3pts. Simply by scoring 4 or 5pts will certainly add to our firepower. Now all we need is for Cookie to come back and ride like he did before his injury. Things are looking much brighter

Scored 6pts in Denmarks U23 team win in Brokstedt on Sunday. They won the meeting with 47pts over Germany 44pts while GB finished 3rd with 27pts Quite a tidy rider by all accounts.
-
Kyle Bickley is at No.2 again for this meeting.
-
No. He is guesting for Sheffield on Mon and Thurs this week.
-
Have to call Sheffield, Poole 2 from now on! Apart from Pickering, all are ex PIrates! You even knicked our track licence! Both Stefan and Danyon have worked very hard for Poole this season. Sheer hard graft from both of them. Look after them, please.

Excellent meeting all round. How many people are aware of the absolute nightmare they had getting riders there? On Wednesday, Wightlinks new and largest ferry Victoria was put out of action due to a mishap. Almost every rider booking had to be changed, some being switched to Lymington Right up to about 4pm, there were still problems. Fortunately, everyone made it in time. Even on the last ferry back, we were all sat round chatting. Barry? Going around everyone thanking us for coming etc. 28 races on just over 3hrs, including a track repair hold up and 3 x ambulance visits Something for everyone. A complete contrast to your 'normal BSPL' meeting of 15 Hts...... now go home. KIds were involved from start to finish. Barry even apologised that due to holdups, he couldnt hold the kids running race. They are working their socks off to produce something you dont normally see. Breaking the 'established mold'. They are succeeding and Im sure the BSPL are watching everything very closely. Long may it continue.
