If he is suffering from depression he needs help and support and probably riding in a dangerous motor sport when ill is not a good idea, to say the least. I think he has talent and could prove a very useful squad member in just about any elite or premier league club if he can resolve the mental health issues.

Personally I think Ulrich is a number 1. Looking at the latest green sheet averages he is 10th highest in average and in five of the premier league teams he would already be the number one. Thinking about team changes am I right in thinking that if you change more than one rider at a time you have to get back to the overall team limit of 42.50? If so changing Olly Allen and AN Other would be a poor decision in my opinion. Better to rely on guests and RR (only of no appropriate guest can be obtained) unless a new number 1 of an average up to 8.51 can be found of course.

Panthers V Plymouth 25/5/2015 Plkoc 2pm
SimonB replied to mudflaps's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Another excellent meeting at the showground. Heat 13 in particular was just spectacular, how Palm Toft took the win I just don't know but what a ride. Good team performance that was able to overcome the shortfall caused by using rider replacement and by Blackbird's injury. Special shout out to Simon Lambert, a top class performance yesterday. Thoroughly deserved heat 15 in my opinion. His team riding with Greenwood was great to see as Greenwood seemed all meeting to be a bit slow despite gating pretty well. Hopefully he can improve as I do think he has the potential. -
King's Lynn V Lakeside Tues 31st Sky 7.30
SimonB replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I have never worked in a kitchen but I have eaten a lot of steaks and can tell the difference between a good one and a poor one Likewise I have never prepared a speedway track but after watching meetings for nearly 40 years I can tell if the track is a decent race circuit or not. Buster does a great job at Kings Lynn IMO and more often than not provides a track capable of staging great racing. Conditions and the teams conspired against him on Tuesday. -
Given that part of the thinking behind the requirement for visas for sports people generally must be that British sports people have the opportunity to perform (ignoring the other arguments for and against immigration) just how many British riders do not have a team place due to a rider gaining a visa to work in the UK?
-
Different case but when I was temporarily relocated to Italy for work I was allowed to claim back my additional accommodation costs, I would have presumed you could argue that all European accommodation costs are allowable when you are primarily based in Australia? Even if not I doubt many speedway riders would end up paying much if any UK tax.
-
Very much depends how long they spend in each country, I could see a strong argument that all accommodation in the UK for an Australian resident (who also works in Sweden, Poland and Denmark) being an allowable tax deduction. Even if disallowed they could claim part of the expense if the base is used as a workshop. Tax is not my specialism but as an accountant I do deal with it fairly regularly.
-
In terms of taxation given that riders should be able to claim all or most of their travel, accommodation, living expenses, equipment, engine maintenance and mechanical costs I doubt many would earn sufficient in the UK to pay any tax at all.

Dont make personal remarks! Agree about the lighting though I has to use the light from my phone to read my speedway star -
Worrying Rye House Rumours
SimonB replied to Dave Stummings's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Last night was my first visit to Rye House for a while and it certainly seemed to have gone downhill since my last visit. The crowd seemed very small, although I appreciate it was not on a normal night and the opposition were not bringing their full team. Hopefully it is all just rumors as I hate to see any track close. -
Much as I like Adam I dont think he is currently like for like for Blackbird, I truly hope he proves me wrong. As I said Dilger I cant comment on as I have no idea of his ability and as for Hall when I have seen him at the showground in the past he looked pretty decent. Although I assume you are talking averages rather than current ability? Personally I prefer 7 man teams rather than R/R unless it is the only option and not sure who else was available that would fit the team building restrictions? .
-
Not entirely sure what else Peterborough could have done? Replacing Blackbird and Fisher was always going to be difficult particularly Blackbird in my opinion due to the quality of his performances this season. It might take a bit for Hall and Roynon to get back in form but both know the showground pretty well. No idea abut the other signing though dont think I have ever seen him race, although I could be wrong!

Scunthorpe V Peterborough (plkoc 2nd Leg) 26/5/14
SimonB replied to Crump99's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Spot on, an absolutely great meeting and Heat 15 was just awesome. As a Peterborough fan I definitely enjoyed it but any fan of any club would be very pleased to see racing of that quality. Top race circuit in my opinion. -
Peterborough V Newcastle - Tuesday 29th April
SimonB replied to NeilWatson's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Greenwood is a different proposition around the showground so we should be ok on that front. Looking forward to this, racing at Peterborough is almost always of the highest quality -

At the Ice Hockey in Peterborough the National Anthem is played as part of the presentation of the players just prior to the start. I am patriotic and always happy to stand for the National Anthem. -
Peterborough V Rye House 18 March Challenge
SimonB replied to Vincent Vega's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I didnt really notice any drop in standard. The racing, given the track was much slicker than normal, was excellent. It was good to see racing at the showground, the track is (IMO) the best in the UK. Lewis Blackbird will score many more points than he managed yesterday and I think both the reserves will develop as the season progresses. I thought Ryan and Ulrich did as I would have expected and I think more will come from Ales once he can gate again! Lasse was a tad disappointing as in the earlier heats I thought he would do better but his last race was superb. For Rye House I was particularly impressed with Boxall he should prove a steal on that average. I tend to agree but they did do a fair bit of track work in the interval so I imagine they were hoping to improve the grip on the track perhaps? Mind you given my house backs onto the showground its ok for me appreciate not everyone has that luxury! -
Will You Be Back At Sheffield In 2014
SimonB replied to MWC's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I went to the PLRC last season which had been my first visit for a while. Now that Peterborough are in the PL I am hoping to make at least one visit this season as I love both the track and the local pubs -
No Sky Speedway = A New Opportunity
SimonB replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Probably I would yes if the quality of the provision was good enough. It is perhaps something the promoters can offer alongside a TV deal though as I doubt it would bring in enough money to replace the current Sky deal. -
Pearson Defends The Play-off... Desperate
SimonB replied to TheReturn's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Personally I like the play off finals, it gives drama and excitement (albeit that this years wasnt the best) right to the end of the season. Nigel; and Kelvin are pretty good in my opinion, they both clearly love the sport and that passion shows. I agree that sometimes they make mistakes but then in 60 seconds of action commentary who wouldn't?
