  1. Used to go to them in the USA and a few that were held in Canada......most of the racing was not really racing but was shall we say for lack of a nicer word....."Staged".
  2. um..er....I am....um...er.....surprised...um..er...you needed...um...er to do um...er....that
  3. 011.1.3 2 Minute Allowance Riders must, at the expiry of this time allowance, be on track, under power, proceeding without stopping towards the starting gate. If a rider is at the starting gate with sufficient time remaining of the 2 minute allowance they are permitted to prepare their starting gate area.
  4. USA v World scheduled for tomorrow 8th of October is canceled because of the Mosquito Fire.
  5. Lefty answered for me......Thanks Lefty.
  6. Speedway was only in its 5th year in the USA then....... Must admit I loved watching Speedway at Costa Mesa with the stadium full. This years USA v World comes up on October 8th at Auburn USA vs. the World USA team: World team: Billy Janniro Louie Mersaroli Bart Bast Gino Manzares Blake Borello Tyler Warren Rasmus Jensen, Denmark Peter Kildemand, Denmark Jacob Thorsell, Sweden Peter Ljung,Sweden TBA, Poland TBA, Poland
  7. Badges have been a real problem over the years, tons (literally) have been copied and sold but for the main part most vendors have been honest......not so many programmes over the years, Photographs have been a big problem seems most people still think they can copy them and that is OK.......its not of course. Race jackets are another item that have been mass reproduced.
  8. Do be careful with these, they have been reprinted so you must ask if they are original.
  9. OK so according to my Nottingham Final Round programme the scores from the previous four rounds are as follows. Greenwood 45, Price 44, Goulden 40, Dallison 39, Bravery 34, Dook 29, Shepherd 29, Hart 25, Hobson 23, Jones 23,Blain 22, Wise 22, S Hart 17, Collins 10, Gregory 7. My final round programme is incomplete but the full results are on Speedway researcher so just add them together as norbold has already provided. The four previous rounds were at Bristol, Plymouth, Liverpool and Southampton.
  10. There was absolutely nothing in those years, the next title after the 1936 Nottingham came at Birmingham in 1946, Walthamstow 1950 (Div3), Cardiff 1951 (Div3), 1954 BV (Div2) then the SAL riders Champs in the late 50's before the PLRC and then BLRC came in.
  11. I first met Tony in 1977 at Welland but I had seen him at Crayford, never remembered him though from there. Pretty good rider at Welland winning one Canadian Championship. An absolute quiet spoken gentleman....Yes you are correct he went to Edmonton to live, I did visit him once out there.
  12. My old friend now deceased, Tony Armstrong used to ride for Crayford.
  13. Four a week for me sometimes and I went to all four. Monday: Wimbledon Tuesday: West Ham Wednesday: Oh dear, what can I do? Occasionally it was Crayford....think that was a Wednesday. Thursday: Wembley Friday: Hackney Then it was follow wherever West Ham was on a Saturday and Canterbury or Eastbourne on a Sunday But, it would not be unusual for me to go six times a week. Damn, what a Speedway NERD I was!
  14. True.....I knew both Joe and Margaret Ford and there is absolutely NO doubt they were Scottish!
  15. Agreed Steve......its been a great magazine and VSM before it......I echo your thoughts that it can continue.
  16. Split......or rather Squire Waterman got his nickname when he bent over and split his leathers all the way down......he was originally nicknamed Split Arse but Split remained until the end!

Modern day rarity is Poole 1958 England v Australasia Test match, it never ran and the programmes were never released except for a few that were mailed out before the event, I know of only 6 in existence. All have a fold down the center where they were put in envelopes for mailing. This one can go for as high as 200 quid.

Better know as 19 February 1928, the highest one that has sold is 5000 quid. Next is probably Celtic Park at just over 1000. Closest is my collection is the Warrington England v The Rest for 900.
  20. Not much out here but his career is there.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Ballard
  21. You are such an ar*e John.....why are you posting this on every thread possible. I used to have respect for you, it has now drained completely away, all you seem to want to do is destroy every thread, promote your own sites and generally try to p**s people off. Well congratulations you have succeeded.....now please go way!

Pretty well any Pre-War programme.....they are full of information, some of them great graphics. Not all of them of course, especially in the early days as they were just a four page card. The internationals of the pre-war days were always special, which is why I collected those all my life.
