  1. Yep..that sums it up. How many other sports lose 50/60% of their crowd just because they're on telly ? Very few i would guess. Probably says more about the arrogance of speedway fans nowadays who want the world on a stick and shout the odds on forums like this making demands.
  2. Nothing too cryptic really..."Back from the brink" was the book about him.
  3. I'm allowed to comment am i not ? I've got no wish to "kick" Mr Lee or any other drug users, irrespective of the excuses they may or may not come up with to defend their actions. I'm simply passing comment on the picture... Drop me a line privately if you have a problem Gustix (John?)
  4. Blimey...is that seriously a recent picture ? He looks like a baddie in Minder.
  5. Nice way to twist someones words there. Not once did he mention crappy style and being out of control. It's not for me to accuse a Poole follower of twisting something that isnt even there to serve their own agenda, but you've pretty much done it yourself there. Keep up the good work.
  6. Come on...we're a minor sport, how many actual speedway people are even remotely experienced in live event coverage ? Very very few. I'm ok with Pearson. He knows his stuff, mentions local meetings and whether we like it or not, he can commentate on a 60 second race. I think the fact that speedway has a professional commentator who works for the big tv and radio companies regularly on football and other sports is quite a touch really... Kelvin is ok too. Quirky and a bit of a pillock, but a nice bloke, despite my avatar...
  7. huh ? you've obviously had a long day... grab a beer and calm down maybe.
  8. Noticeable how much more slick the fill-in guy is with Nicholls alongside him. I'm not having to mute the tv between breaks, which is nice...
  9. What a strange email. As someone has already mentioned, Lee has previous, and amphet was also found so not quite so simple an argument really. And whilst i wont be shouting you down, i'm not sure that "we are all proud of" Holder (if thats who you're referring to). He is a professional rider in the sport i follow. Nothing more. If something was suspected or even accused by any injured party or witness at the time of the accident, the hse would be all over the place. The fact that no one has probably says more than anything. And as for being unable to earn a decent living to provide for his family - do me a favour
  10. Exactly - i'm a Reading fan with a fair few injury stories and sadness behind me over the years. I've no allegiance to the rider or the club but am supporting him.
  11. Agreed, idiots like this have no place in the sport and frankly deserve a crafty right hander. For now tho, forget about these idiots and put your thoughts into support for your injured rider. Tom
  12. (I make no apology from copying this from another thread i just posted on) From my background, i know it isn't a good sign when both paramedic crews feel it necessary to travel with the patient to hospital. Saying that, my hope in this case is that they all frankly didnt give a crap about the speedway and just wanted to keep Ricky stable on the journey in. I'm not familiar with the geography of Scunthorpe so have no idea how far it is to the nearest appropriate a&e, but regardless, i hope he got there nice and stable, and the medical folk of Lincolnshire are working their magic as we speak. Tom
  13. It might be just me, but when i was reading this, i was expecting last line to rhyme
  14. Quite simple. Hit the little link icon, past in the link, job done. Until i see something remotely resembling confirmation, like many others, i can only think this is a wind up. Without dragging myself into it further, one bit apart from the many many obvious things, sticks out to me. How the hell does a normal supporter actually see the meeting with vehicles on the centre green ? You'd need the terracing to start about 30 ft above the level of the track to ensure that people could actually see the whole track without someones clapped out old Escort obscuring their view.
  15. Well in my part of North London, the weather certainly hasnt been rain off weather so far Anyone more local to the track with any update ? Interested to see if the early rain off was a legit call
  16. I would hope that JC's words have been lost, in so much that he's probably referring to a rider bashing up some furniture in the pits on a weekly basis. If he's talking about punches being thrown, then he's clearly very wrong. I've been going since 1990 and i've seen, in the flesh, the following: Phil Morris getting nutted by the late Paul Fry. Stonehewer getting thrown out of a meeting for hitting someone...might have been Dave Mullet, maybe Anders Henricksson. Edit - i think it was after a race with one of those two, he clashed with member of track staff... Antal Kosco and my old friend Wiggy climbing up the fences at Smallmead to throw a few paws at Racers fans. Roman Matousek knocking out all-comers at the 4TT at Peterborough in what may have been the funniest thing i ever saw as a teenager. And quite possibly me getting into a scrap or two with "un-named Elite League promoter who might have football team moving onto his turf in not-to-distant-future" at Cardiff a few years ago. Moral of the story, fights dont happen much.
  17. I see nowhere in his post where he repeats the chant you're referring to. And with respect, you highlighting the Hillsborough link probably only serves to get a few curious people googling it, So before you posted, maybe only a few people on this thread knew about that song, now...well maybe a lot more do. Well done.
  18. Well, it probably doesn't matter, no. Most of us grounded folk would be quite proud to respect our own anthem, but modern sports personalities on the whole, don't give a crap. This lot, for the most part, in the Gp's, think they're too cool to even play along and sing their anthems.
  19. It was the popping wheelies when he wasn't leading that used to get on my norks to be honest.
  20. I'm a little drunk now, so i'll say sorry in advance just in case...but what is Gjedde up to now ? He used to drive me mad when he rode at Smallmead.
  21. I dont think you'll find them available without the colours already on them. When i was a lot younger, you could get them at local tracks in England, but maybe ebay will be your best option now.
  22. One swallow doesnt make a summer. I'm gonna reserve judgement for a while i think.
  23. We're getting into semantics now, because the federation don't get the prize money do they ? My point is that they are going for individual glory, and if they succeed or not, imo, it in no way reflects on the country the rider rides in. If Sayfutdinov becomes World Champion this year, people wont say cor look how good Russian speedway is now.. Anyway, its never gonna happen. Nice idea from Shovvy but sadly a no go for many reasons.
  24. I did say Team GB... I'm quite aware that individuals enter qualifiers, and there are obviously competitors in Gp's etc, but those riders are riding in them as individuals.
