  1. I believe flagrag who is known to be part of the production team or something like that has alluded to the withdrawal of sky, but hasnt gone into huge detail for obvious reasons. I think we all hope its rumour mongering but when someone like flagrag virtually confirms it, i think we need to realise its likely to be true.
  2. I don't wish to have knowledge of the sport some 30 years before i was born thanks Mr Racist.
  3. Has Lakeside moved John ? That's only 20 odd miles from where you and i are. And i think its a bit odd to say any journey to and from Rye House would mean going through not particularly nice parts of South London - where you live isnt exactly Hampstead is it. Get out there and see what london in 2017 is like, even if its not to the speedway at Rye. The older generation in London seem hell bent on demonising certain areas and people here.. so sad.
  4. Me either. Bit of an odd article that. Unless it's trying to draw attention to the alcohol dependency unit, i guess. The racejacket is 77 ish Wolves it seems.
  5. I cant say i've been to a meeting in my entire speedway watching life and heard any kind of running commentary apart from a token one by Dave Lanning on the last night at Smallmead. On my rare trips to grasstrack meetings there have been some, but it didnt really add anything for me.
  6. Sounds like the fans in the FL need to kick up a stink like the top flight fans did last year. My nephews are Reading fans and they mentioned how daft the pricing is for some of their away days.
  7. I was also there in the away end, lovely value at £15 - to be honest, and i know this is wildly off topic, but away tickets are fantastically priced at 30 quid fixed for all normal league matches now. My bank balance still has nightmares at the previous years of my away seaon ticket when tickets were upto 60 quid for sitting in a dive like Stamford Bridge and the likes..
  8. Ah the Porsche.. i remember our journey home from Stansted after Vojens.. lovely motor.
  9. I was thinking the same! Surely Humphrey Appleby hasn't been banned has he ?
  10. You cant have misread the post that much surely have you ? As someone else has commented - it was banter. He at least engaged with the away fans, which is not something all pa guys do.
  11. Exactly - works fine for me aswell. Stop panicking Gustix.
  12. David Smart. Swindon second string. As a Reading fan, he was an annoyingly consistent opposing rider. Took his own life (I think) a few years back. Dave Mullett was my unsung hero for what it's worth. Tom
  13. Oh man. Why do i stumble across this. No one on this forum lives in Belgravia. Also anyone who even says the words Belgravia doesnt live in Belgravia, unless they are working in a knocking shop at the sloane square end. Its not an area. Its an old fashioned way of saying a certain part of the west end. Gater1, reign it in sir. Come on. I'm not trying to mug you off but this is silly.
  14. Indeed. Have been slaughtered both in there and the track bar too. Nice little setup all round.
  15. Me too. Far simpler to get to than my previous local of Lakeside even from deep South London where i live. Wont miss the traffic shenanigans every week. Couple of quick trains too, so no problem going on public transport and having a beer or two after.
  16. As other people have mentioned, not likely to affect speedway at all. Uber drivers are under no contract to stay with uber, are free to do as they please working whatever hours they choose, and can openly work for another firm at the same time - am very surprised of the result today tbh.
  17. He does seem to be running out of material somewhat. What would have been nice was to mention that from what i see on facebook, the hard working chaps at the committee to resurrect the Reading Racers will be in attendance. With Wokingham being my hometown, i would love to be back for this, but sadly work gets in the way.
  18. My point was more re Plymouth went to the wall at the beginning of the season and were subsequently saved, the rescue plan clearly hasnt worked leaving them in the mess they are now.
  19. Before you start dancing on the grave of another speedway track, perhaps a proper read of the article would have been in order. Yes, she mentions that it could be their last meeting, but she also goes on to say things that dozens of other clubs have said when the crowds drop; That more people are needed thru the turnstiles. She even refers to the backbone of the team they want for next year, so it doesn't exactly sound like she's ready to toss in the towel just yet. Its clearly very different to the situation with Plymouth.
  20. Any reason why ? as an add on to whats been posted on here, didnt he allude to knowing some older riders and their famiiles, and also some deceased riders along the way ? Something that would perhaps tally up with a dad-as-a-rider type scenario. i'd love a sensible denial from robert72 myself, but he seems to be giving this thread a wide birth for some reason
  21. I am expecting a denial to be honest, but it does seem to fit in with his tales..
  22. Being the speedway historian that i am, i was just wondering if anyone has any memories or more info about former rider Robert Lightfoot. He of Stoke Potters and Leicester Lions in the 80s. Just wondering... Thanks Tom
