  1. I only cut and paste from Speedwayworld - just in case people thought it was me!!!!
  2. SLOVENIAN GRAND PRIX, Krsko MATEJ Zagar has been handed the Wild Card nomination for the first Grand Prix of the season at Krsko on April 26. The Slovenian star will be going all-out to prove that his absence from the series as a full-time rider is a temporary one, having lost his place at the end of last season - and, of course, he is a track expert at his home circuit. The race for the 2008 World Championship promises to get off to an explosive start, with World Champion Nicki Pedersen opening the defence of his title in Heat 3 against former runners-up Greg Hancock and Tomasz Gollob, and exciting young Swede Fredrik Lindgren. The opening heat also promises to be spectacular as it features current World No.2 Leigh Adams, who goes up against Scott Nicholls, Rune Holta and series newcomer Krzysztof Kasprzak. Home riders Isak Santej and Jernej Kolenko have been nominated as track reserves for the event. The full draw is as follows: Saturday April 26 - 1900 CET 1 (7) Rune Holta (Poland) 2 (14) Krzysztof Kasprzak (Poland) 3 (8) Scott Nicholls (GB) 4 (2) Leigh Adams (Australia) 5 (11) Bjarne Pedersen (Denmark) 6 (9) Chris Harris (GB) 7 (13) Lukas Dryml (Czech Republic) 8 (10) Andreas Jonsson (Poland) 9 (4) Tomasz Gollob (Poland) 10 (6) Greg Hancock (USA) 11 (1) Nicki Pedersen (Denmark) 12 (15) Fredrik Lindgren (Sweden) 13 (16) Matej Zagar (Slovenia) 14 (12) Niels-Kristian Iversen (Denmark) 15 (5) Hans Andersen (Denmark) 16 (3) Jason Crump (Australia) 17 (17) Isak Santej (Slovenia) 18 (18) Jernej Kolenko (Slovenia) FIM Jury President: W.Glas (Germany) FIM Referee: A.Steele (GB) Source - Speedway world
  3. PRESS RELEASE THE JOHNO TESTIMONIAL: Coventry, 22nd June 2008, 1pm In 2007 Steve Johnston was persuaded to join Coventry in mid-season by the Bees’ captain SCOTT NICHOLLS, and it was a move which worked out brilliantly for team and rider as the Bees won the Elite League! Nicholls (now with Eastbourne) is delighted to put his name down to race in the Johno testimonial. Scott says “Last year, all the Oxford riders lost their jobs when the track closed. It was a shame for Johno and all the Oxford riders. I’d spoken to him and he had a couple of options open, but on a selfish note I wanted him to come to Coventry, because I get on really well with him. At the same time I knew it would be a really good move for him, I knew he would enjoy it, and I think it was great for him. “He was at my Testimonial and he’s put so much into everybody’s Testimonial, he’s done his fair share of them over the years and he deserves to have a bit of good come his way. I hope he has a brilliant turnout and it all goes well for him.” END
  4. but what he doesnt realise is that he wont need his box - its an all-seater stadium and the view is quite good whatever your size!!!!
  5. Grr - Watched last weeks with a litle bit of buffering. And up to heat 9 everything was fine this week. Now (and I guess its due to numbers) I have lost the lot. Not a happy bunny
  6. Was hoping to travel down for this but now realise its a 7.15 start so not sure its such a god idea now. Too many late nights already!! Good luck to all the lads but a special good luck to Ad Chandler - will look out for the results with interest
  7. Really and this one isnt???? There was a post somewhere in this thread that sort of implied that Rosco wll now be managing the Super 7's. Not sure if it was tounge in cheek or serious but maybe that has something t do with it!!
  8. I dont think so!! Whatever the views of JC at least KL was neautral. Swindon for chripes sake - as Rob B has said - Swindon v Belle Vue - not sure I would bother paying for such home track advantage
  9. Agree Eric. And I am guilty of having to now make a choice - Newport or Swindon. Even if the times fit I'm not sure the budget or energy levels will allow
  10. ................... PRESS RELEASE ................... THE JOHNO TESTIMONIAL: Coventry, 22nd June 2008, 1pm The main event in a busy day at the STEVE JOHNSTON TESTIMONIAL will be a 16 rider, 20 heat individual meeting. “It’s the old World Final format and the only way there will be an extra race is if there is a run-off,” says Johno. During the afternoon there will be 3 Match Races featuring two international Stars of Yesteryear. “It’s all organised, but we are keeping the names under wraps till nearer the time. I’m very happy with who we’ve got!” There will be fun things for the kids, with giveaways, bouncy castles etc., and there will be a Big Prize Johno Testimonial raffle in which the Top Prize will be a VIP trip for two to the German Grand Prix at Gelsenkirchen on 11th October. This will include a Pits Walk! “This will be with me unless I have to ride in a rearranged meeting. Even if I do the Walk is still on.” There’s a second prize of a 125cc mini-bike plus racing gear – helmet, boots, head to toe. “It will be a busy day but it won’t drag – we’ll be pushing it all through as quick as possible.” ............... END ...............
  11. Trees - I cant find the original post that you used as a quote so Im using your post only sorry. I actually dispute that the person said there was no further rain. We went back the the Brewers fayre pub for dessert once the meeting was called off. We were in there for about 1 hour and whilst we were there it rained again and as we started our journey home for the first 15 - 20 minutes we had our wipers on double speed. I know showers can be isolated but as we came out of the pub we all said - right decision.
  12. No problem Pete Bet that £200 is now only worth £100!!!!!
  13. In one way I think its a shame - Not sure how the Super 7's were formed and who did all the work to get them up and running but.... We now have a brand name that all speedway riders and fans accosiate with. We have the 'SUPER 7's' and not 7 individual meetings. We have a logo that you can identify with and yesterday I was impressed with the Pits layout with all teams having a banner using this concept. We have a website which should be the fans 'route A' for information. How much of that was the brain child of Chapman and how much of it was a committee doing the work? Maybe we forget where the hardwork comes from. Im sure there is someone outhere that can shed more on these points. Like many Im not a huge JC fan but if he is responsible for making this series of meetings a part of the Speedway calendar then I say thanks for the hard work.
  14. Pete Thats great thanks. This is going to need some working out now Thanks again Edit - Just done some more homework Pete - Euro introduced in Jan 07. Just tried to get a conversion rate on the SIT and it says now using the Euro. So thats a lots easier. But thanks for the info. PS - need any programmes??
  15. started to get things sorted for this trip. Im okay on the currency for Slovenia as that appears to be Euro's but as we are flying into Zagreb it appears the currency in Croatia is the Kuna. The only time I think we will need money in Croatia is at the airport to buy drinks once through customs etc, or if we get delayed airside. (If its landside then the ATM's will take a hit) Anyone know if they take both in the airport - Kuna and Euros? thanks
  16. I understand where you are coming from trees but hindsight is wonderful thing. Those riders riding in Poland - for most of them the time wouldnt have mattered. They would have just been sitting in a hotel room last night and waiting for their flights at first light this morning. So 4.30pm or 7pm would have made no difference.
  17. Been home around 10 minutes and read through the posts. The correct decision in my opinion. As LW has said - rideable maybe but raceable probably not . As I heard it - the riders said that if the rain came again then that would be the trigger to call it off. Whether the rain came for 30 seconds or 30 minutes that was the decision and thats what they kept to. Disapointed yes but I have to say that I am not sure I could have stayed on the terrace for 2 to 3 hours having got soaked in the first downpour. It had gone beyond cold to hyperthermic nearly I too heard Busters interview from the car park and understand his disapointment. But as someone who has been on the road for 6 hours today - Im not unhappy it was called off.
  18. Now there's a dilema - Weatherspoons would be a free meal for me (I have vouchers for there) but Freebridge seems easier for us to get to. Hmm - I think save the vouchers for another day. But thanks all for the info and to Bagpuss for the travel advise
  19. M08 - dont start! Adding on to the pub question - I remember someone talking about possible travel problems but I dont know where I read this. Anyone any ideas. Any major roadworks - A14 / A47? I cant see anything on roadwatch but local knowledge always bestter!!
  20. Can anyone recommend some local pubs for food before the meeting. One group coming up the A10 and the other group from the Midlands. thanks
  21. And Lukas Dryml has a clash with the Cardiff GP and qualifier on the 28th and 29th June Seems stupid that these events are planned over these weekends.
  22. Steve anounced tonight at Coventry that there will be 4 or 5 more GP riders on the day. And that he will be riding himself especially as him mum and dad will be coming over for the meting. Sounds like a good line up on the way
