Dont let this topic dry up ! . . . like the speedway did. . .
-
More than a match for those two....
-
Or even an "en-masse" picket outside the council house -ha ha . Seriously speaking though , Bristol council is a no - no, North Somerset and Mendip councils are more "user friendly" so the best chances would be with these. BANES are a bunch of "old stick in the muds" too !
-
Well . . .if you like the old stuff i.e. the 40s - 60s it is well worth the money, I myself am only interested in the days at Eastville (hence the user name) there is very limited footage from then and found this very dissapointing..
-
Ive got that video but theres only about 30 seconds of video footage on it, Ive been in contact with Jed Pitman down at the HTV studios over in Bristol, he said he could help but have heard nothing since, maybe I should give him a go again.
-
You are right there "Old Bulldog" hopefully someone from the council can sit up and take note of what is being said here - WE NEED SPEEDWAY BACK........NOW
-
Can anyone help with video footage of Bulldogs meetings at Eastville during 77 / 78 ?
-
Hi 25 year fan, good to hear from you again. It can only do good for the sport, more tracks and teams - more interest and support, it makes sense
-
Yeh your right, its not nice to see teams thrive at anothers expense. The more teams the better... within reason of course. Lets hope some land becomes available..(wink wink)
-
Obviously you have your own reasons to dislike the guy, but more to the point getting a new home for the Bulldogs is more important nowadays-surely
-
Fair comment ! Icant blame the Newport faithful on that point, but he did bring it back to Bristol, albeit for two short years
-
Thanks for the support 25 year fan. There are a few prospective sites, I am in the process of looking at a few suitable sites but it appears that it is gonna be "out in the sticks" literally!
-
On the topic of "a new track for the bulldogs" I was looking at an ariel map of the mendips. There appears to be an oval track about 1/2 mile due east of the "Castle of Comfort" Inn, any ideas to what it is? it looks like shale, and its not Mendip Raceway (which is near Cheddar)
-
Thanks SPIN KING , I will have to get it, he was quite a promoter and did wonders for the sport. He seemed to turn around the teams he promoted BRISTOL, NEWPORT, EXETER,SWINDON etc.
-
What a team ! Im afraid your loss was our gain . Wally Mawdsly was quite a promoter,I wonder what hes doing now?
-
I remember john davis at Eastville too, but For a different reason, It was when Reading were visiting and John was racing Steve Gresham. Steve was excluded for some reason and the race was restarted .When John came around the bend Steve ran out from the pits and punched him clean off his bike - dangerous or what ! And the time Nigel Boococks silencer came off, bounced and hit a woman on the head ........never a dull moment !
-
Hey nice user ID ! yeh phil was the bees knees, not many got the better of him at Eastville.....nor anywhere else come to think of it. An absolute legend - we need more like him in the sport. Two other Bristol riders worth a mention here are Steve Gresham and Tormod Langli, totaly different in style to Phil but when THESE two got together team riding they were like a tag team - If you got past them you didnt stay on your bike for long ha ha !!!

Hello again, I suppose it could be used, Im sure Mendip Raceway wouldnt object to the extra revenue, Im sure the crowd numbers would at least treble! ! ! Somerset Rebels also run a namesake stock car track which is about 2 miles from the speedway track (near to the M5) Its worth a go, I will make some phone calls
-
Hello again, as far as I know, there hasnt been a stock car track in Bristol, the nearest I know of is at Charterhouse on the Mendips. Bristol council does as you say have a major problem with this sport,so does BANES (Bath & north east Somerset) here where I live. Ive been approaching local land owners to find the general feasability and it is mixed, there is a worry of falling foul to planning regs etc, but we must keep trying mustnt we?
-
Hello 25 yearfan, I agree fully with your comments. It was criminal how things turned out! The biggest crowds in speedway, deception and lies from the powers be....... We need speedway back here in BRISTOL or nearby! Whats needed is a new site to house a track, nothing to special, flat land, parking areas, accessability and a "sympathetic landowner". Planning permission is a must. Sports grounds eg Rugby , amateur football, looking for extra revenue are a possibility, or even farmers willing to lease some land (like at Somerset) What do you think?

Can we carry on the disscussion about Eastville, and the Bristol Bulldogs?
-
I remember him at Eastville stadium riding for the Bristol Bulldogs, where is he now?
-
Has anybody watched the Bristol Speedway video ? The director of Somerset Speedway is on it - stating that he has been trying for years to get a site in Bristol to revive the Bulldogs, yet he has been granted a licence to run the club at Highbridge..... Is it all down to planning?????????
