  1. Are there no records kept of who was England Team Manager from year to year ?
  2. Does anyone have a chronological list of all the official England (and GB) speedway team managers we ever had through the years since 1930? Who was the longest serving, who was the most successful, who was the worst ?
  3. Lots of pictures of the visit are on Sportowy Fakty https://sportowefakty.wp.pl/zuzel/zdjecia/galeria/19390/prezydent-andrzej-duda-z-wizyta-u-bartosza-zmarzlika
  4. For all who still doubt the status of speedway in Poland, take a look here. This is the Polish State president Andrzej Duda, who on Friday visited the home and workshop of world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik ! https://www.speedwaygp.com/news/article/8278/polish-president-visits-zmarzlik-Workshop
  5. Will Lokomotiv Daugavpils be allowed to take part ?
  6. This "Velodromo Vigorelli" stadium is in Milan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velodromo_Vigorelli
  7. Yes, it seems they have run their "speedway" meetings on the long-track.
  8. At the moment, yes, but not for very much longer. German borders will be re-opened again in mid-June.
  9. The UK based riders could still earn some extra money by riding in the Swedish or Danish leagues (equally affected by the Polish demands of one rider one club) and would be more than welcome to race speedway and long-track here in Germany, as did nearly all of the top British League speedway riders back in the 1970s and '80s. Some co-operation between the UK, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany, would strenghten our position against the Polish threat.
  10. I always thought that Homburg/Saar had a speedway track rather than a long-track, but from the information given by @iris123 it is obvious that there was long-track racing at Erbach from 1951 on. But could there have been another track, a proper speedway track, somewhere else in Homburg? It would really be interesting to know where a pukka speedway track could have been ? FC08 Homburg's Football ground, the "Waldstadion", looks very very likely. Perhaps @Gustix can help us with more info. I seem to recall that he was there with the English team in 1958. By the way, it is interesting to know that after WW2 the Saarland was NOT part of Germany, but a French Protectorate with self government from 1947 til 1956. They participated under theri own flag at the 1956 Olympics, and had their own national teams in football and other sports. (West-)Germany played against the Saarland twice in their qualifying group for the 1954 FIFA World Cup. On January 1, 1957, the Saarland was reunified with the rest of (West-) Germany. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saarland
  11. The correct spelling of the rider's name is René Elzinga He was the Dutch National Speedway Champion in 1989 and 1991 There is even an action video of Rene Elzinga on YouTube, causing a heavy crash in heat eight of a 1988 World Team Cup meeting at Wiener Neustradt in Austria. Riding in white is René Elzinga for the Netherlands, in yellow & black is Heinrich Schatzer for Austria, in red is Ingvar Skogland for Norway, and in blue is Alan Rivett for New Zealand.
  12. and mine arrived on time as usual on Friday noon here in Bavaria No problems at all
  13. ... and here is the link to the Speedway Researcher website http://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/
  14. That could be our Josef "Wack" Hofmeister in the back row between Craven and Briggs.
  15. SoN will have to be postponed or even cancelled for this year. The semi-final at Landshut can not go ahead on April 28. All sports activities in Bavaria for the months of March and April are already banned.
  16. Covatti returns to Britain from his homeland ARGENTINA, where he has spent the winter months!
  17. I still think it should be 3,2,1,0 points in each and every speedway race. It is perfectly acceptable for a speedway race to result in a 3-all tie. If it happens in a knock-out semi-final or final race, like can be the case in the SoN, simply use the points scored in the previous 42 qualifying heats as the deciding factor about which pair should get the win. In no way do I favour a differnt point scoring system for any of these pairs racing events, such as the 4,3,2,0 which was often used in Britain and favoures the second and third placed riders over the first and last, or the latest FIM Version for the 2020 SoN which is 8,5,2,0 points, which favours the race winner and the last placed rider over the secdon and third. First and fourth is equally as good as second and third. The poinst System should not be changed at all. A 3-all should always be a 3-all, just find different criteria to decide which team progresses or wins in a knock-out competition. Why not use the total points scored from the qualifying heats to break a 3-all tie? Such a system would make the qualifying heats even more important. The pair entering such a knock out race with a lower points total need a 4-2 or 5-1 to advance/win, while the team with the higher qualifying points total aims for a 3-all or better.
  18. Aki Ala-Riihimäki is an interesting name from the past. Is he planning a genuine comeback to the sport or is it just a one-off appearance in this meeting?
  19. Speedway returns to a famous old venue in Central California. After a gap of 43 years a motorcycle speedway meeting will again be staegd at Bakersfield ! It's the first annual Digger Helm Speedway Classic on Saturday, March 14th, in memory of the former promoter of the Bakersfield track.
  20. Just in .. the Russians win the final heat in Berlin by 13 to 2 over Sweden
  21. It would not matter if the Russians drop a few more points in the heats. Points scored in the heats don't Count in the A and B finals, and as long as the Russians finish in the top two after 42 heats and two days of racing, they go into the A-final, where the gold medals are decided in that single race to be won by the individual rider who crosses the finishing line in first place, thanks to F.I.M.'s new 8-5-2-0 point scoring.
  22. Found this on YouTube: a couple of female speedway riders, 50 years after Fay Taylour, these two rode in an indoor speedway match race series at the Wembley Arena (ca.1980). Miss Bobbi Hunter (USA) vs Miss Madeleine Fundín (Sweden)
