Lambert AND Bewley should get wildcards - we already have four Poles, so we could (should) have three Brits

Forget the old scoring system, even a fifteen point max for Laguta will mean nothing as long as Zmarzlik also makes the semis, even with only seven or eight points. It now depends on just one race for Laguta, his semi-final. That is the only race that is really important for him. If Laguta finishes first, second, or even only third in his semi-final he is World Champion, but if he fails in this race, Zmarzlik has the chance to make up the nine point deficit with a win in the final. The first twenty heats tonight are only a warm up for the world title contenders, since neither of them will have any problems to qualify for the semi-finals (only eight or nine points needed to do that). They are well adviced not to take any unneccessary risks in the qualifying heats. For them this meeting only really starts with heat 21.

I thought that Heat 21 Sweden vs Denmark last night was a really good and exciting race. The meeting was not a classic, I agree, but it was not that bad either. The Americans (Luke Becker) were exciting to watch, and even the Finns had a couple of good moments. Seems to me that only two riders really struggled with the track conditions, that's Leon Madsen and Pontus Aspgren. Others were riding it really well (Freddie Lindgren was fantastic).

Do You believe the Speedway would have lasted 90 years in this country without the creation of the leagues and team competitions, or International test matches ? That's what has made speedway so big over here in the UK, Poland and Sweden.

Speedway was invented as a team sport. that is what makes it so very special. It is only today that it is more often treated as an individual sport, which is not how it should be. The F.I.M. are on the wrong trail here trying to bring speedway in line with other motorcycle sports. The team sport aspect is and always was Speedway's biggest attraction. Without their league and their clubs in Poland the sport would never be as popular as it is, and the same goes for Britain in the pre-war and post-war years and into the 1980s.

yes it is, because he earns exactly what he scores in all of his races that night. Winning a final of a Grand Prix meeting is fine and sees him standing on top of the podium as the GP winner on the night, but it is all races (seven races, if he reaches the final) that count for the championship, and if he was not able to beat his opponents in the heat races it is only fair that he does not score the most points.

Phil Morris is responsible for the track conditions. All he does is water the track too much. There were very long and boring track preparation breaks last night because of this, and it still did not improve the racing, there was hardly any overtakign in the first twelve heats. But the racing got a little better towards the end and it did improve dramatically in the two semis and the final, when it really mattered. It is obvious that for most of the riders the heat races are just not worth taking any risks, due to that highly unpopular new point scoring system. There's lots of hard work to do for DISCOVERY/EUROSPORT to restore the SGP series to its former glory next year. But I very much doubt that they will be the right people for that job. With them it could easily get worse, but I hope I'm proved wrong.

Vienna/Austria once was a hotbed for speedway here on the Continent. The sport was very popular there in the 1950s with top international riders such as Fritz Dirtl, Josef Kamper and the Killmeyer brothers Karl and Leopold. Briggs, Moore, and Fundin often rode in open international meetings at the huge Prater Stadium in Vienna in the late50s/early 60s.

There are currently no other Austrian speedway riders, but only the two You have mentioned, Daniel Gappmaier and the sixteen year old junior rider Sebastian Kössler. By the way Robert Grichtmeier is not an Austria, he is German (Bavarian) and already 50+.
