  1. I tend to agree with You that it is likely that the rider named "Quiling" is in fact Paul Wissing. The Spanish pronounce it quite similarly. Therefore is is also highly likely that "Swart" is in fact another one of the Danish tourist. Do You have the names of those four Danish riders? Does any one of them sound similar to "swart"? By the way, are You aware of an Argentina rider of the early 1950s by the name of "Neovanna" ? I have come across this name as one who rode in an international meeting in Pocking, Germany, in 1953. I have not seen his name in any other meetings, though. It is very unusual for the time that an Argentinean rider would have come over to ride in this meeting at Pocking. But I do have a suspect! I am aware that there was an Austrian rider by the name of Josef "Sepp" Neubauer, who emigrated after the war to Argentina and I suspect that this might be him. "Neo" translates as "Neu" in German, so Neovanna might by a Spanish version of his original name? And as Pocking is a town right on the Bavarian/Austrian border, it might have been Neubauer on a visit back home in 1953. Do You (or anybody else) have an idea about this rider's true identity?

  3. Argentina vs Rest of the World Bahia Blanca, Thursday, January 19, 2023 This was a historic event for Argentinean speedway (which runs since 1929) as this was the first time ever that an Argentinean national team was assembled to contest their inaugural international match. The teams presentation, 18 heats plus final, and the celebrations, all in 80 minutes, with Polish commentators, are on YouTube

Here is another addition of a pre-war German rider, who was killed in a race accident in 1936. The rider is Hans WINKLER, who was from Munich in Bavaria. He was one of Germany's best long-track riders of the early 1930s, twice finishing on the rostrum of the Pardubice Golden Helmet Grass Track (2nd in 1932, and 3rd in 1933). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Helmet_of_Pardubice Winkler lost his life in a crash on a road race circuit "Rund um Schotten" at Vogelsberg in Germany on Sunday, July 19, 1936.

I have some additional info on a German rider listed here under the name "ERNST". His full name was Paul Ernst, he was from Hamburg, and he died on Sunday, September 1, 1929, form internal injuries sustained when he crashed on one of the bends in the 350cc race of the Fichtenhain Grass Track meeting at Heide in Northern Germany.

  17. The line ups for today's (November 19) triple header of NSW junior solo speedway championships (500cc U21, 250cc U16, 125cc U16) at Loxford Park, Kurri Kurri. Apparently at Kurri Kurri there are no issues with the current floods, which have caused Mildura to postponed tonight's Jason Lyons Trophy meeting, and the up-coming Victorian sidecar title event.
  18. Jaimon Lidsey has won the Victorian State title last night at Mildura.
  19. He is one of the All-Time Greats and it is such a shame that he was never given a full run in the SGP series. All he had was a couple of wild card appearances in the Latvian GPs at Daugavpils.
  20. yes, always been that way, because the majority of the population in the Daugavpils region have Russian roots. No less than a quarter of the Latvian population speek Russian as their first language. Grigory Laguta has his wife and child in Latvia, and I read that by now he even has a Latvian passport himself, along with his Russian passport. He has apparently been offered a job with Lokomotiv Daugavpils to work as a coach for the club's junior riders, but he has declined the offer. Anyway, he will not be able to ride for them in the Polish League, because PZM simply won't allow it. Grigory was quite succesfull in the Russian League this year. He was the team captain of his original home town club Vostok Vladivostok and guided them to the league championship. Further he also became the Russian Individual champion of 2022.
