  1. Wherever you got your information from regarding the track being dug up is total fabrication! The track was being removed as the outgoing Comets were finished and the rugby pitch had to be made bigger to accommodate the Reds. The majority of the shale was gifted to Northside by the outgoing promotion and shipped straight over there, along with a lot of other gear. The new promotion would vouch for that if anyone was sad enough to ask. Talking about sad, everyone loves a story but sadly singy13, yours is more than slightly skewed. Just saying…

  3. Fighting fund box. Jenga, I really have no idea what that is. I'm certainly not one for binning anything. Regarding the businesses as I have just said to Scaramanga, your repeated comments on here have, unfortunately for Workington speedway, had a direct impact on other supporters who are going to be boycotting our food outlets. Money which goes directly back to the speedway.
  4. I DO blame fans when I have it on very good authority that a large proportion of supporters soon to visit are bringing sandwiches and flasks as a direct result of what has been posted on here!
  5. Scaramanga if you would care to crawl out from under your stone then I will willingly talk to you. You cant hide beyond a screen name typing vitriolic comments then complain we cant be talked to. Why cant you put your efforts into offering to help us or doing something constructive for the speedway as others do?
  6. The burger van was new and completely out of his depth and will not be coming back. The cafe is having power problems as the power over that side of the stadium is limited and we cant find a generator efficient enough to power the fryers. Other small issues were teething problems and have already been rectified. Thanks however for broadcasting it at every single opportunity you have had as we are now hearing from other clubs how bad our food is. You have given us a rotten reputation and probably succeeded in damaging not one but two of my businesses, not to mention costing speedway a few hundred pounds every week. Thanks.
  7. More bum comments. Do you want speedway in Workington?
  8. Totally object to that comment New era Panthers. You have touched a raw nerve here. I pride myself on giving riders every chance. Nicki stayed with me whilst he rode in the UK and I think you might find that he had decided he wanted a break from PL speedway LONG before he was replaced. Had it been up to him he would have gone earlier, he only stayed as long as he did because I was hoping he would change his mind and I was asking him to give it time. Laura, Workington
  9. However, he HASN'T yet had two seasons at Workington, one there and one with Glasgow. Plus in 2013 his not getting a visa was not at all performance related. Hopefully his Visa will come through without any hitches so he can return and show some people a thing or two, similar to Ricky Wells, Oh and erm Kenneth Hansen, oh and erm again, Matty Wethers.
  10. What a miserable attitude Jenga. On a brighter note supporters, the SUMMER HOLS start here and this meeting kicks off our annual KIDS FOR A QUID promo.
  11. With just 24 hours to go before the Comets first fixture of the new speedway season the club has been rocked by the news received today that their new number one, Kenneth Hansen, has been diagnosed with suspected testicular cancer. Kenneth informed club owner Laura Morgan of the devastating news in a telephone call to her this afternoon. Speaking on behalf of everyone connected with the club this evening, Laura explained the current situation: “Naturally this has come as a huge shock for Kenneth, as it has been for us all, and it is only when something such as this comes along that all thoughts of speedway are put into perspective. “Clearly all of our thoughts are with Kenneth right now. He has returned home to Denmark late this afternoon for more tests and then to undergo whatever treatment is deemed necessary. “Needless to say this has hit his team-mates particularly hard. Even though they have not ridden together as a team so far this year they have all known each other within the sport for many years, and the camaraderie of this year's side was already evident from last Saturdays press and practice day. “Kenneth requested that we make his situation public in order to end any speculation as to his whereabouts, but in return may we respectfully request that he is granted some quiet time with his family back home in Denmark while he deals with the current situation. “We fully acknowledge that supporters everywhere will want to leave their good wishes for Kenneth at this time but again, we respectfully request that it does not become a topic for debate, discussion or speculation on internet forums and the like.” In Kenneth's absence the Comets will operate Rider Replacement at number one in their season opening ‘A66 Challenge' fixture at Redcar tomorrow evening; start time 7:30pm.
  12. The rule changed three years ago Jenga so all is in order Quite correct you are SCB, hands up I got it wrong. He isn't injured. Please note - when I'm wrong I say I'm wrong!
  13. Yeah...answers on a post card Lucan! Can now confirm our Guest for Josh on Sun afternoon will be Rich Lawson.
  14. http://www.workingtoncomets.co/news/article.asp?id=100356 The REAL story folks
  15. George S. It's taken me a couple of days to decide whether to maintain a dignified silence or respond to your comments. Clearly I have decided upon the latter. Just a few points The caterers, who have the contract for Derwent Park (with Workington Town NOT Workington Speedway) have made the decision to provide us with only one van. The fact it has been there since 1999 bears no relevance. unless of course, people these days buy much less? In an effort to try and ensure that ALL supporters (not just those in the grandstand) have access to refreshments, we have put our heads together with the Stewards and made the ONLY workable short term solution. The long protracted break was to ensure that the supporters who had crossed the pits gate to go to the van had time to get back to their places. We have been warned that if anybody is seen in the 2m exclusion zone behind the fence after 7pm, other than during an interval, the meeting will be canned by the Ref. ( It wasn't Jim McGregor) As Scarra quite rightly says, We were told hot and cold drinks would be available from the rough and ready bar which is why Steve announced it. This is yet to happen. The sound system WAS particularly poor on Sunday but he meeting was underway before it went downhill. Also Howard (who would normally assist) is on holiday so there was nothing at all we could do. I can't really comment on the pre-meeting atmosphere on Sunday. We were all so busy. Possible due to a smaller crowd?. Maybe the sound system was quieter? Possibly all the weekend's merry making had tired supporters out. I honestly can't put my finger on why Sunday might have been that way compared to other weeks. If Steve wishes to comment regarding the points which are directed at him, he will no doubt respond himself. I agree it was a dreadful performance from the boys which made for a very dismal evening for all concerned and for that I apologise. Laura
  16. SUNDAY at 7.30pm. Hop off the M6 at J40 and finish off your weekend in style!! Thoughts on this one.
  17. DON'T FORGET the Auction night tonight folks. Alongside the auction we have side stalls and SURPRISES in store..
  18. Pit posters from the 4th test at Derwent Park are going onto eBay with proceeds going to the Air Fence Fund, most are signed apart from the ones from the cancelled original fixture. Listings can be found here and more will come in the following days, Thanks http://www.ebay.co.u...5&_trksid=p3686
  19. This meeting is now being re-staged on Saturday September 14th
  20. Can Officially confirm that the meeting is now OFF after a large shower at 4.20. Sincere apologies.
  21. It is with regret that due to the over night rain leaving the track very wet and the forecasted rain during the afternoon and into the evening we have decided to postpone tonights meeting against the Edinburgh Monarchs The track staff have been monitoring the track and bladed the wet parts just before 2pm. All forecasts point to rain at some point this afternoon and this evening and with the track already being wet, it wouldn't have taken anymore water. The early call off is to save anyone travelling from Edinburgh and give everyone a chance to make alternative plans.
  22. Hi Everyone. Please note that there is a seller named Topinka1 who is selling Workington race cards at an extortionate rate on e bay. Anyone wishing to buy a racecard can send £1 and an A4 s.a.e to 18 Garborough close, Crosby Maryport Cumbria CA15 6RZ. We still have a fair amount of the Ian Thomas memorial meeting, which seems to be the one people are interested in. No need to line this guys pockets.
  23. Yes. As far as I can see it was R/R at no.4 for Kenny Ingalls. It looks like Nedermark guested at no. 2 for Aarnio
