Almost laughable!

Very much so, my feeling is the councils look at us and say.. "OK guys, look to be honest with you we hate your sport. We've waited so long to see the back of it and now we've got our chance so, sorry your stadium is going to be bull dozed, flatened, blown up. As a good will gesture though, in light of the many years and money you've spent at this venue we'll call the main road after your favourite rider. Hopefully you'll prefer this to actually going to watch speedway here." Substitute the words speedway, sport and rider to : Cinema Sports field School Large company factory Copice of trees Green belt field Railway station etc etc etc

I struggle to like this idea... Half of me thinks, what a good way of remembering what was there formally. The other half of me thinks, the council has the gall to accept the planning application and in some cases possibly reject the speedway going anywhere else in the borough then call roads after the speedway. For example one of the roads on the Cradley site is called stadium drive. It almost feels like they are laughing at us. Just my opinion of course.

Sanitized? Can you explain please.

I actually think Gundersen was better than Neilsen, Hans didn't really start to shine until after Erics sad and very premature retirement. Although at the time the rivalry between the two was superb and no doubt good crowd pullers when both were in town.

With all due respect that could be the problem, I respond to the people I've heard from once maybe twice. Four, five or six times just gets right on my left tentacle and the ignore button gets pressed.
-
This is terrible... who's going to risk going to a GP again?
-
I disagree Jeff. Before Birmingham came back to the fold I would have said the same. Since we came back, I have to say, I believe the riders value the fans probably far more than the promoters.
-
Sad to here it, I wasn't there tonight, but for Premier League meetings the atmosphere is very good. Regarding standing indoors, isn't it the same anywhere with a grand stand.... insulated from any noise and smell. Remember the place was full of Elite League fans tonight so maybe that tells us more about the enthusiasm for the Elite League than the Premier League. Try a prem meeting one day down here, you'll change you mind I can assure you.

Well said Ron, they are also probably one of the most successful too.

You've really lowered the tone of your argument now.

My point was and still is the thread has now been going for eight days and we are only just on our second page. If the topic of a one off world final poll was something the majority wanted, we would be on about ten pages by now. Nothing sinister was mean't. Look at the GP challenge thread, started only a few days ago and on 15 pages of comments already.

But judging by the amount of people reading and commenting on this thread since it inception. Give me the GP's anytime.

Excuse me, it's promoters doing this which has got us in this position. -

I'm on the AndyM and Lupus side of the argument, apologies if I've missed anyone else of the same thinking. Nothing annoys me more when people spout off we should have used him... him... uncle Tom Cobley... Joe Bloggs and all! You are all spouting off after the wheels have started turning, who ever rode tonight the result would have been the same... get over it.... we are rubbish full stop!!! -
I hope Antonio rises above it and puts the aggression into his riding. Antonio can decide with whom and where he rides, if it is open and rife in former eastern bloke countries more than others then he could refuse to ride there. It is their loss at the end of the day.

Sorry for being negative, but I'm pretty sure it would have shouted from the roof tops if the outcome was favourable, which is a shame.

If it's of any interest, I went there myself once with my parents for the Carmarthen v's Newcastle match. A small no nonsense circuit set in the beautiful welsh valleys, the views of the surrounding sweeping hillsides from the terracing were wonderful. On this particulary day both Branney brothers and Jamie Robertson were riding, it was a very entertaining match with Robertson enjoying the wide lines around the fence and Craig Braney just gating and going. Most of the fans appeared to be traveling neutrals, with a small group with oxford jackets on the third turn terracing. It's a shame the circuit is no longer operating as it was there for the right reasons, training riders for the future.

Good to see big money on offer to the riders, not nearly as much as other sports but these guys deserve every penny.
