Does Katowice still host speedway? In League or International format.

Hi bomber, I came across your website while searching the web one afternoon, very interesting too. I mailed speedwayplus to get it added to their links page, seemed a shame not to share such a valuable piece of speedway history.

If I go I travel there and back on the same day....ok get home late and tired but....£100 + drinks better off.....

I hope people are still looking and badgering the council. We have our very own "sir" Brian Buck who has been an ambassador and not letting up with letters of support for speedway to Birmingham council. OK nothing has happened yet, but you never know. Canterbury should do the same, unless you do the council will forget it is wanted. It takes time but hopefully will work. Canterbury is missed.

Is there not a plot of land around Canterbury that could be utilised as a track, is anyone looking still? There must still be a glut of support around Canterbury.

I think Canterbury have the same council as Birmingham, they don't like Speedway. They did though closed under different circumstances, Birmingham's through lack of support, but I believe the council ordered Canterbury to closed at the end of the 86 or 87 season. Nothing has materialised in Canterbury since, just like Birmingham. I think Leicester's council has the same attitude, unfortunately too they are three potential future hot beds for speedway.

Interesting point but, the millenium stadium is the millenium stadium, it will cost no more to them to hold crufts, football, rugby, the old grey whistle test and all that. But, it will cost more to hire the stadium for football than it would for the world tiddley winks. Maybe the rally got a very good deal as it is a new event at the stadium and they passed the savings on.

For any commodity you basically charge what people are prepared to pay (ok I'm keeping it simple). Take out your costs (which you control and keep as low as possible) the rest is yours to keep less tax. Would they get any more through the gate if they charged less...probably not. I think (I'm comparing with football) I get good value for money for the entertainment laid on at the British GP. To watch the Villa verses Tottenham the weekend it was £48 for an adult! How much is it to watch the football equivalent of the speedway GP series....astronomical I presume....but people are prepared to pay it. People are prepared to pay a fortune to drive a BMW.....it cost no more to build a BM than it does to build VW Golf...

Sorry a doom and gloom post Unfortunately, whatever plan is put in place, speedway won't grow while we are losing stadia to the property developer. I'm sure even if promotions owned there own stadiums, who would miss out on the huge payout if Barretts open their cheque book.
