The Horns Of A Dilemma
Deano replied to Sprog1's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Just my opinion, but I think the only rider that should be guaranteed a place is the current world champion. Everyone else should qualify on merit through a series of knock out rounds the previous season. Might keep the one off world final fans a bit happier too. -
What makes the situation difficult to comprehend is if the accident had been on a track with a proper wooden perimeter safety fence, he most definitely would have lived to race another day!
-
Sidlo was in the race previous.. heat 14, this is where we think there is some confusion over the two incidents. The link both myself and CHK put up mentions Sidlo too, I assumed they meant seidl. There are too many names that are similar, even I got Raniszewski and Krzeszinski mixed up in a previous post and they don't even look the same.
-
Google won't translate that for me.
-
CHK, I found this which seems to back your theory up: http://www.speedway.hg.pl/zawodnicy/Biogra...KI_Zbigniew.htm Seidl is the other rider in the clip and Bishop was in the race. It also makes some claim that Raniszewski was riding with an injury and that he only decided to ride as a world qualifier was to be held in Vienna later and he wished to learn the track.
-
I've just realised Phil Bishop was a victim in the minibus accident at Lokeren!

According to a previous link: 14: Kamper, Kaiser, Sidlo, Krzeszinski F 4-2 45-38 So ironically Kamper was in the same fatal races of both Krzeszinski and Dirtl. It seems pretty obvious to us these days that it was an accident waiting to happen, but perhaps they thought "what are the chances of that happening". They understood the risks before riding, but it seems so tragic that even crudely roping off the area would have stopped man and machines careering under. Lets just hope the poor guy didn't suffer because if you were the nearest, would you have unhesitatingly rushed to help him?

If The Oldest World Finalists Had Met At Their Peak
Deano replied to BOBBATH's topic in Years Gone By
Too true... after going on his training school a few years ago, spending the whole day getting sore.... then sit down and watch him do his demonstration. You wonder if the guy is invincible at his age. Such a nice guy to talk to as well. -

Sorry it's off topic, but, is Nygren the only one that still does four laps on a bike? -
There is a thread about it somewhere, but sad to say I believe the project was abandoned by the original owners. I don't know, but someone else may have took it on though.

Thank you for sharing.. great footage of a sad, but very familiar story.

Quite right Humph. You could bet your granny's bottom that a standard works Jawa rider would be quicker than young Brendan Bottomly's standard Jawa at Scunthorpe. The reason is before every engine leaves the factory it will get tested under controlled conditions and the better ones will be filtered out. You could even engineer a slightly quicker engine and seal it and still keep within the rules. Purely by choosing and matching parts within a closer tolerance band. This though only applies to very few engines, in general though most will be quite similar.
-
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacture or Manufacturer. No the riders own as many as they want... hopefully they would only ever need one and maybe one as a back up per season.
-
Ideally like normal box standard engines, they are 20x more reliable so apart from changing external components internals remain OEM untouched.
-
The four wheeled kind, some types of car competitions for example race box standard 1.0L VW Polo's. It's very close stuff, the only way they can pass is by forcing their way through. Couldn't do that in speedway obviously. The sealed bit is tough, but other sports use some kind of item that would break when the engine is broken apart (like a unique coloured wax seal). Also the engine and security type bolts could be sprayed a colour to reveal scratch marks if tools have attacked it. They'd have to work with the manufacturer of course, but there are ways to stop it and in all purposes, if a rider was two seconds per race quicker than everyone else....... the machine examiner would pay a visit.

Personally I feel it would bring out ability rather than the one with the richest parents from the off. Those who's parents are on a lower income could compete on the same level. Above all it could bring down riders wages and make speedway cheaper, with no net loss to either promoter or rider. Plenty of other sports have standard out of the box classes with limited tuning rules, speedway has some but prefers to line the pockets of expensive aftermarket parts and expensive tuners. Not sure it would improve the racing, would definitely slow them down I guess.

Box standard sealed engines for league speedway. Individuals and internationals tune to as much as you can afford.
