It was the original reason I walked away a few years ago. I got fed up with our riders getting injured riding for someone else, either guesting or doubling up. It effected my teams league position and cup qualification one year. I've come back this season and well... what can I say it's worse!!! Sticking with this sport means you don't notice the changes, walk away for a few years and you really notice them, not one of them is an improvement, but just weakens the sport. Same old promoter comments "use it or lose it".

If the sports business model was designed to make money, promoters would come forward. While it doesn’t make money, expect more tracks to disappear under houses.

i can’t remember which CEO quoted this, but somewhere I read it cost 4x as much to get new customers than it does to keep customers. Surely this forum is that free source of data to tap into ex customers still interested in the sport in some way. Rather than try and get new ones.

Good start. The momentum needs to be maintained though. Brian Buck is good at advising supporters on what is required. He does post on here now and again.

I really don’t know, I’m not close enough to the situation in Swindon. All I can offer is what previous “Save Our Speedway” campaigns have done. Every effort needs to be made to ensure the stadium does not get knocked or burnt down. Without serious financial implications put on the owners via the council.

Keep badgering the local MP, the local councillor, keep badgering the planning committee of councillors. Tell them you are still here and waiting, the long game won’t work. Request regular updates, next plan of action etc, request a meeting with them. They are your representatives and 100’s of emails and letters hitting their desks will create some response. It worked to get Birmingham up and running in 2007. Is the supporters club still active? Something co-ordinated by them is a good start.

Awful news. Keep the faith, while a track is still there anything is possible.

Plymouth v Birmingham Tuesday 24 August

It’s not the first time I’ve heard promoters says this. There must be an inner circle within the BSPL. Fingers crossed Plymouth go from strength to strength, I really enjoyed my first visit. -

I was surprised Shanes was disqualified in the second incident with Morris, to me Morris fell in front of Shanes.. Shanes couldn't miss Morris's stricken machine. -

Doesn't surprise me after last nights battering. Taken down not once but twice by Morris! -

My first visit to Plymouth. Me and my eldest are looking forward this. Up the Brummies. -
Just a thought. Should the future of British Speedway get rid of pounds for points? Every rider gets a fixed wage for each meeting. A promoter can then budget for every fixture. under performing riders get moved on as they do now, but at least they don’t leave under a financial cloud. promoters don’t have to worry about a full 5-1 max every race that sends them financially to the cleaners.

Bit more to it than that though. This is retrospective permission, councils really don't like rules being broken as it sets a precedent. I don't know the background to Rye House moving to Kent but all objections are taken into account.

Hi buddy, I’m coming down for the Brummie meeting. When you say park in the park, which park exactly?
-
Totally pathetic. But why aren't I surprised, who would want to be a speedway rider under that organisation. Not many it seems.
-
Glasgow are in a league of their own currently. But bar away at Leicester us Brummies haven’t been too bad on our travels. I was looking forward to the stream whatever the outcome.

Quite right. I do think speedway fans are the worst when it comes to trying to advertise the sport though, we constantly run it down. Look at the recent Birmingham match thread, it's full of negatives, any newcomers looking in would get deflated very quickly. We do our bit on Facebook, share share and share only time will tell if it works or not. My Friends have started asking me about the Speedway, so the awareness is still there, just not paying customers.

I dropped out for about three years recently. My last meeting was under the Phillips promotion at Perry Barr. I basically got sick to death of rider availability due to racing elsewhere for another team in the UK and the sports politics. There were accusations the website was being deliberately hacked and crashed, promotion arguing amongst themselves, son calling dad a bad businessman etc. If you blank yourself off from the rule book and it's internal political shinanigans, which I now do, you enjoy it. It's the stuff behind the scenes that drove me nuts and it was easier to just walk away and forget about it. I love the product, but the internet and what was out there was probably my problem with the sport.

Bought my streaming pass. Up the Brummies.
