Boston were covered by Screensport many times in the 80's. I know for certain that 1984 Edinburgh 1986 Poole, Rye House and Long Eaton were filmed. One of them meetings were scrubbed off the master tape. I have 'em all somewhere. Incidentally when Tommy Rander and his company Transmission TV and Media provided the pictures in the late 80's Mike Bennett, Warwick Mead and myself were amongst the staff. Clive Fisher did the commentary. Mike Bennett worked for Paul Bonner in 1987 the year when British League coverage overtook National League. I can remember Edwin Overland, Dave Lanning, Chris French and others also providing commentary. Dave Lanning for me the voice of TV speedway, but Edwin didn't do a bad job either. I would be interested to see footage from the following tracks that I visited but are now long gone. Weymouth, Scunthorpe (Both Quibell and Ashby), Birmingham (Old Perry Barr).

I was at Mk most weeks in the late 80's with Mike Bennett and to be honest crowds were better than a lot of tracks. The Groveway ended because the stadium owners wanted them out. Elfield Park - great track was always getting vandalised. Team Man is the one you want for info.

Has Sky Had Enough Of The Gp
fireblade replied to nibs's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup

1. Sam Ermolenko ( The Best) 2. Scott Autrey (A Gent) 3. Kelly Moran (Very funny guy)

The track in Foleshill was quite close to where the Ricoh now stands, the site now covered by housing and I believe Stadium close is a name of one of the roads

Expensive admission. Program Rubbish difficult to write in some heats. Souvenir stall - Ditto, expensive and poor choice. Tack - slick, however everyone but GB appeared to get by riders. Team - Abysmal. Practice is it true that Team GB arrived at tea time and the others spent the afternoon practising. Presentation - Very poor.

Just exactly how many maximum wins has there been? Scunthorpe recorded one over Newport a couple of years ago, likewise K Lynn did the same to Sheffield last year. I remember Boston having 12 5-1's v Scunthorpe many years ago, the 4-2 happened when a home rider had an EF.

Being involved in two other sports as well, one in the management has already grabbed that 16 quid mate.

Sorry but I don't buy the magazine and that's that. Don't even buy the Star. Having to pay for the wife and 5 kids doesn't half make a dent in your wages.

Obviously BOSTON 1986 - was awesome that season. I am also sure he did two stints at Peterborough. As I don't read Backtrack, could someone let us know how he is. Got to know Kev in 1986, but didn't see him after 1990. Spoke to Andy Hines last year.

To be honest, if this had been pushed and heard by the elected members of the council it may have carried on. Council officers do not have the power to refuse on their own. I have done some research on this one and am still baffled how easy Canterbury were allowed to die. Used to enjoy it there. anyone seen the ZZ Top boys lately

Keep checking the speedwayplus site. A mate of mine is gonna put some pics of the track on it.

What's you e-mail? I'll send you some. Have all the badges as well, including a very rare one from 1987.

When Boston closed in 1987 the track record was 60.0 (Definately)held by Steve Lomas since 1980 (I believe). Incidently the last rider to win a race was Gordon Kennett of Eastbourne.

Under 5's should be free. No one should be allowed to charge for under 5's speedway doesn't (Apart fromone trck that did try it on a couple of years ago).
-
Actually not very much for under 5's as they aren't allowed on white knuckle rides.
-
Sorry, but no way am I paying 67 quid for my family to get in. Also, I think that anywhere that charges 9 quid for under 5's to get in should seriously review their pricing policy.

This venue was laso used by the Rugby team of the same name until the 80's they then moved to Spotland. Incidently I have a Hornets Body colour as well, I say have but it actually belongs to a mate of mine who appears to have forgotten where it is lol.

I remember the lad with the glasses. He used to hang over the fence and count down the laps for the riders. Not very bright, but did come out with the odd big word or two. He always used to wear a brown coat. Micman will remember him too.

Crime books about The Yorkshire Ripper etc then are not suitable? There was an in depth feature about Kenny including the tragic end in 5-1 years ago.

Apparently Hull KR want a new stadium which could leave Craven Park for Speedway and dogs, however the dog people have saved the Boulevarde from the bulldozers. Also, control of the council has now changed from Labour to Lib Dem, whether that will make any difference we'll have to wait and see.

It wasn't the council that was the problem last time, it was the vandals. Team Man will confirm this.
