Enjoyed reading the article on one of my all time favourite riders, David Biles, in this weeks Speedway Star, but there is two mistakes on the 1986 Poole Wildcats photo on page 40. The rider on the far right next to Martin Yeates is not Peter Read...I think that is Gordon Humphries and the rider between David Biles and Marcus Bisson is not David Gibbs it is Wayne Barrett

Belle Vue

Used to think Aussie rider Strider Horton had the best name ever. Think he used to mechanic for Jason Crump too.

Don’t have to ride for Poole (or anyone else ) to be an asset.Poole still own him as Belle Vue never paid the transfer fee to buy him from them in about 2008. He last rode for Poole in 2007.

And it’s only Poole that “cheat”....allegedly!!!

The story going round when he first rode for Poole was, He rode in a Grasstrack meeting in the afternoon and came off, landing in a cowpat....He then rode a Speedway meeting in the evening wearing the same unwashed leathers....hence the name “Smelly Smith”

I’m pretty sure Elkins won most if not all of their match races......But we know who went on to be the better rider
