  1. Money is tight probably!!! Let's hope the economy doesn't affect British speedway too much this year!!!!
  2. The track must always have the same problem unless they don't water it at all? I'm surprised Bill Buckley built it that way . . .
  3. Yep that'll be the usual line, he does work for BSI of course, positives only! The riders aren't going to bite the hand that feeds them either. I think the shape of the track, the banking and wide bends go against passing. Knew straight away when Johno said that the starts were slick but there was a little more grip on the inside of the track (which is no doubt caused by the banking), gate one was gonna be best, and what was it 14 out of 20 heats won from it!!! A shame that Niels had to be excluded, all 4 back would have been fairer!!!!!!!!
  4. Sort it out Mr Buckley or the people won't come back ............... need more passing!
  5. Don't you mean "stoked" Philip? Or perhaps you mean he's "stocked" up with what, clutch plates? Monster tinnies?
  6. Will "Inside Speedway" be available at speedway tracks?
  7. Can't believe I'm reading this sentence, filthy stadiums!!! Dirt is a part of speedway, I never once worried about my children getting dirty at speedway or anywhere else come to that, it's what kids do!!!! Just dress them accordingly, take some wipes to clean their little dannies and go with it ................ I'm all for the kids entrance price being continued until youngsters are out to work really, they just need to show some evidence.
  8. I'm totally with you on this one re the individual kevlars. I can totally understand the team kevlar concept though of course. Some riders are easily recognised style wise still but it's certainly more difficult with away riders in particular. I'm not sure it makes any difference to kids although invariably they have their favourites (we all did and do ) and like to watch them specially, even if you didn't have a programme years ago you'd know your rider ............... It's great to read about modern technology being embraced by the clubs, it's the only way to go and might attract more fans
  9. McGuiness says the riders are mad doesn't he and his racing on the Isle of Man is pretty extreme!! Engine braking is instant .......... NOT! There's no doubt about it our sport is EXTREME and some of us would do well to remember that when we watch the racing
  10. Kings Lynn have dabbled with "ride out/winner" songs for years, at the moment we aren't using them, personally I like them One thing that used to happen at speedway is the terrace lighting used to go off when the racing started so everyone concentrated completely on the racing, of course the lighting encircled the track and proved to be a danger unfortunately but standing in the darkness certainly added to the spectacle of the races. We'll never get that back Just shared a Workington Speedway poster on Facebook, hope everyone gets to see this, loads of effort put in, loads of extra entertainment, I'm impressed
  11. So you think it's a game of football then, racing on a boarded circuit, on 500cc highly tuned motorbikes, inches from one another, with little or no protection if something goes wrong then ................ hmmmmmmmmm, you're a hard man to please obviously!!
  12. Youngsters, unless it's football it seems, don't bother about supporting local teams. Football will always have the upperhand because anyone and everyone can play it. Speedway doesn't have that luxury. I think therefore that the promotions have to somehow get the riders out into the community amongst the youngsters so they get to know them, get to know why they are racing speedway for a living, the team ethos, the comraderie, what they get out of it, the life they lead, basically persuade them to get along to speedway and support them and/or have a go at it too. Unfortunately with the life speedway riders have to lead, racing here, there and everywhere, having time to commit to the area in which they race and "maybe" live is small. It's the old chicken and egg again, IF enough people supported speedway, promoters would have the money to pay the riders to give to the community, to promote their club and riders would have more time to spare as they wouldn't need 4 or 5 different clubs!
  13. From what I can see of our young supporters (17 - 35 perhaps), they sure as hell don't add to the atmosphere, not cool to clap, to shout, to sound an airhorn, young people do my head in from that point of view .............. ok some young people. It's a shame they can't let their inhibitions go! Perhaps a couple of pints or a few shots oughta be compulsory for them before a meeting starts I dunno how the sport can attract young people for the right reasons, I guess the promotions have to just keep pushing it in the media, hope for big sponsors and promote some more. Bit of a chicken and egg situation really! And SCB, we're not all bloody old, 46 is the new 30 At least all us oldies are keeping the sport alive, but yeah I would go with the dangerous sport tag raced by fit, crazy guys on bikes with no brakes image rather than family sport, that's what it is after all
  14. Erm perhaps it's because Darcy lives with Middlo whilst over here, personal relationship and all that, of course they were gonna ring him and of course he was gonna reply, be it the right reply or wrong reply!!
  15. Hurrah for Mr Buckley! Makes one wonder how long he'll keep that up for or is he THAT rich it's a drop in the ocean to him?
  16. Darcy has been given his punishment over in Aus for what he did. As for being a kid, everyone has a kid inside them, however old we are, even at 46 I'm not condoning Darcy's behaviour in any way but he has been dealt with over his misdemeanours here and in Aus and I really, really hope that he keeps out of any more trouble for the foreseeable future, I would hate to see him throw it all away. In the speedway world 2013 I'm just gonna enjoy his racing
  17. Obviously not a banned substance in speedway though, easy to spot a rider with it shoved up behind his top lip!
  18. As far as drugs are concerned I will agree with Middlo that they seem the norm for many young people. It's sad to say but drugs are too easily available and too easily accepted by young people. Including fags and booze ....... b4 anyone says anything! Arise Saint Theresa
  19. Perhaps Michael Lee is someone who could talk to Darcy . . .
  20. BUT British Speedway is based on teams and this is what has kept it going over the years and I hope it carries on for many years yet. It's so important for the promoters to promote the team aspect and the riders to realise that for the fans their team is most important!!!!!!!! Promoters and riders probably don't have the same feeling for "their team" as the fans but the sooner they get it into their heads the better, what it means to support your local speedway team!! I think more could be done to encourage team riding, certainly taking away the bonus points for the riders doesn't help one bit, maybe the promoters could think of something themselves to encourage it, a bonus perhaps. Obviously team riding isn't easy and sometimes jeopardises riders' positions in races but it's what the fans want to see and if you look at the big picture, keeping the fans happy is a massive part of the sport. Makes you wonder what would happen if all the riders were on the same points money .................. with team riding and team winning bonuses up for grabs ..........
  21. Certainly thought should be put into what is played on the night but the music is very much secondary to the speedway, the speedway banter and interviews.
