Mildenhall V Newport - National League
Lucky Star replied to PhilK's topic in National League Speedway
Just spoken to someone at the stadium - they are waiting until 4pm before they decide if the meeting is on or off. -
Does anyone know the lineups for this meeting? There is nothing on the Fen Tigers website yet but a few minutes ago it was announced that Mark Baseby is riding in the British Masters Grasstrack Championship down in Kent on Sunday: http://members.boardhost.com/Grasstracknet/msg/1313056397.html I can only assume that Mildenhall knew about this fixture clash before they signed him earlier on in the season.

Mildenhall V Isle Of Wight - Sunday 17th July
Lucky Star replied to PhilK's topic in National League Speedway
It's off according to the official website. -
Really sorry for Lewis who is having awful luck with injuries this year. Ironically his fall in Heat 10 arguably won us the meeting. If he had stayed on to score a point then Dudley would surely have got an 8-1 in the next heat and the final result could have been very close indeed. Impressed by Kyle Hughes who is a class act at this level of the sport. Good to see Jake getting his confidence back again. Good also to see so many Dudley fans making the long journey down to Norfolk - they certainly outnumbered the few home fans in the Royal Box last night! Hope both Lewis and Scott make quick recoveries otherwise Dale is going to have real problems.

Sadly I could not make it to the Forum last night. Was anything said about the outcome of the Court case?

I see that a Judgement has now been delivered in the Court case about noise nuisance from the stadium and potentially it appears to be bad news. Basically, the Judge has awarded some damages to the claimants for past noise nuisance although the amounts involved are relatively small. More importantly, the Judge is also going to impose future noise restrictions on the stadium if the parties cannot come to an agreed limit on noise. Between the hours of 8am and 8pm he is minded to restrict noise levels at the boundary of the claimants' property to an average of 45dB over a 15 minute period. Even tougher restrictions of 37dB will apply after 8pm. I’m not an expert on the subject of noise levels so don’t know how this will affect the running of speedway but it is bound to have some effect - to give some idea of how really restrictive these limits are a normal conversation gives rise to about 55 dB of noise! The full Judgement can be seen at: http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/QB/2011/360.html The Judgement runs to 64 Pages but the important bit about future noise restrictions is in paragraph 245. Hopefully Dave Coventry will be able to shed some further light on the situation at the Fans' Forum tonight.

Does anyone know the final outcome of the recent court case? The hearings in the High Court appear to have stopped about 10 days ago and the Judge involved has now moved on to another case. Despite this I can’t find any mention of the outcome on here or elsewhere. Has anyone got any further information?

Great to have such a positive outcome after all the ups and downs of the last few months. The link with the Ipswich promotion is especially good news. I just hope that His Honour Judge Seymour doesn't put another spanner in the works at the conclusion of the current court case!

Everyone seems to be blaming Ray without knowing any of the facts. According to the story in the Cambridge News* today there were no "offers on the table" because everyone who looked at the books realized that the Club was losing money hand over fist and they all walked away. Instead of blaming Ray people should be sympathising with him. He is a pensioner who stepped into to save the Club last time round and, like Simon beforehand, he has lost thousands of pounds of his life savings in a very short period of time. Then all he gets on here and elswhere is a load of abuse. Who would want to be a speedway promoter? * http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Sport/Other-Sports/Fen-Tigers-set-to-shut-up-shop-for-season.htm

Mrs Mildenhall Passes Away Rip Jean Mascall
Lucky Star replied to stressed's topic in National League Speedway
I am deeply saddened by this news. Jean suffered with her health over many years but she always managed to keep a smile on her face. My deepest sympathy goes to Ray and the family. Graham -

I watched the programme yesterday and it gave an interesting insight into all the hurdles Russ and Claire face - and that was even before the latest setback! It seems like a huge financial gamble trying to establish a new speedway venture in a country like Spain but I hope it pays off eventually. On a personal note it was nice to see a few shots of Russ riding around the Norfolk Arena.

Hans Andersen
Lucky Star replied to pirate paul's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Excuse me, but you started this thread with some pretty offensive remarks and then you get upset when someone dares to criticise you. How do you think riders feel when they read comments like yours? People who live in glass houses should not throw stones! -
Hans Andersen
Lucky Star replied to pirate paul's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'm not surprised in the least to see this thread on here because quite a few people seem to take great delight in slagging off Hans Andersen at every available opportunity. What does amaze me though is that this tread was started at 8.57pm yesterday by someone who claims to support Team GB and there had been almost 40 replies before last night's meeting at Reading had even finished! Obviously none of these people were actually at the track to support Team GB and some of them were clearly sat in front of their computers and not watching all of the event on TV. Some supporters have very strange priorities. -
When you check in be sure to ask for a room at the front of the hotel - the views of the city centre from the upper floors are really good and you can also see the floodlight pylons of the Olympic Stadium in the distance. The hotel is about 800m from the 406 bus stop in Kosciuszki. The 406 bus back to the airport stops in Podwale which is slighly further away from the hotel (Kosciuszki and Podwale are both one one-way streets hence you get dropped off and picked up in different places). Tram number 17 stops just outside the side of the hotel. Hope that you have a great time.

There are no train services serving the airport at Wroclaw but there are two bus services to the city centre. An express service (number 406 ) operated by the municipal bus company runs into town every 30 minutes. There is slightly more expensive service run by a private operator but this only meets some UK flights. Both depart from just outside the terminal building but they stop at different places in the centre. If you travel on the municipal bus with a large suitcase then you must purchase two "express bus" tickets (one for the passenger and one for the suitcase). Express bus tickets are slightly more expensive than the normal bus and tram tickets and, be warned, you can be fined on the spot if you have the wrong type of ticket (or if you have not stamped your ticket using the machine onboard the bus). As regards hotels, I can recommend either the Orbis Hotel Wroclaw or the Hotel Jana Pawla II on opposite sides of the city centre. Both are good quality hotels with very reasonable rates. It is a long walk to the Olympic Stadium from the city centre but tram services nos. 8, 9 and 17 run along this route at very frequent intervals and the journey takes less than 15 minutes. Tickets for a single journey only cost about 2zl and can be bought at any of the Ruch kiosks all around the city. Wroclaw is a great city for a long weekend so make the most of your visit.

I'm also devastated to read this bad news. This was one of the most comprehensive websites covering not only speedway but also ice racing, long track and grass track. I am extremely grateful to Marcin for all his hard work in keeping the site regularly up-to-date with fixtures, results, rider profiles etc. from all around the world. Thanks Marcin, your efforts were much appreciated. Sadly, it really will be very difficult for us to get all this information in future unless someone with a lot of spare time and many contacts takes over where Marcin left off.

An excellent meeting last night but as someone has already pointed out there was a very disappointing crowd to watch it. It looked like there were only about 2,000 fans inside the Olympic Stadium. I attended Wroclaw's last home league meeting and the crowd that night was 8,000 so where were all the Polish fans last night? Was it live on Polish TV as well as on Sky?

I have just returned from a holiday in Poland which included meetings at both Wroclaw and Leszno. Wroclaw surprisingly beat Tarnow but nearly every heat was won from the gate. This was the second meeting I've seen at the Olympic Stadium and I could count the number of passes in both meetings on the fingers of one hand. I hope that those of you who are going to the SWC get much better entertainment. In total contrast the meeting at Leszno on Sunday was a real cracker - without doubt the best meeting I've seen so far this year. There was passing in almost every race and some of the manoeuvres on the first/second bend were out of this world . Heat 13 was worth the admission money alone - Adam Skornicki and Hans Andersen changed places three times during the race with Adam the worthy winner in the end. The huge crowd created a fantastic atmosphere inside the stadium and Leszno deservedly won the meeting 48 - 42. The whole meeting was a wonderful advert for Polish speedway and as a bonus the beer in the bar was some of the best I tasted in Poland (and I did taste quite a few over there!). It was also the cheapest at just 3.5 zloty - hard to believe, but that's just over 50p a pint! A trip to Leszno is an absolute must for anyone going to Poland next week. It takes about 75 minutes on the train from Wroclaw and the stadium is only a 10/15 minute stroll from the station. By the way, a word of warning for those of you staying at the HP Park or other hotels in that part of town. Last week the trams from the centre to the Olympic Stadium (nos. 8, 9 and 17) were being diverted due to roadworks and they did not go down Sienkiewicza as usual. Do not therefore expect to pick one up near the Botanical Gardens if the roadworks are still in progress. Instead you will need to walk a bit further past the Cathedral and go the stop near the University Library at the junction of Kardynala Wyszynskiego and Szczytnicka. The good news though is that there is now an extra tram line (no. 70) along the same route between the railway station and the Olympic Stadium.

Junior World Cup?
Lucky Star replied to Matt Davis's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The new Under 21 World Team Cup Final takes place on 1st October 2005 at Pardubice in the Czech Republic. There are three qualifying rounds as follows: 16th May at Abensberg, Germany - teams competing are England, Germany, USA and Sweden 28th August, Rybnik, Poland - teams competing are Russia, France, Finland and Poland 28th August, Holsted, Denmark - teams competing are Australia, Denmark, Ukraine and Norway I assume that the winner of each group plus the highest scoring runner-up will qualify for the final. -
Air Polonia may have gone bust at the end of last year but a new airline called Centralwings started flights from Gatwick to Warsaw (and Cracow) this week. This new airline is owned by the Polish national airline, LOT, so it is likely to remain in business a bit longer than Air Polonia! The flights are operated in conjunction with the German airline Germanwings and fares start at under £8 plus taxes one way. Sounds like another interesting option for those living in the South of England who want to travel to Poland this summer. The website is at www20.centralwings.com

Krsko
Lucky Star replied to sjw ministerofport's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Scunny Stag is quite correct. Krsko is on the main line between Ljubliana and Zagreb and so there is a direct train service between Ljubliana and Krsko. The journey normally takes 1 hr 37 min. The only problem is that in the current timetable the last train back to the capital (via Dubova) leaves Krsko at 20.28 hrs on a Saturday. It is not possible therefore to watch the GP and get back to a hotel in Ljubliana by train. Unfortunately it is not much better in the opposite direction as the last train from Krsko to Zagreb leaves at 21.39 hrs. Hope that helps anyone thinking of travelling to Slovenia. . -
Wroclaw GP
Lucky Star replied to sjw ministerofport's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Joanne, I stayed in the Orbis Wroclaw Hotel (sorry I didn't realize that Orbis also had a motel in Wroclaw) - the address is: ul. Powstancow Slaskich 7. There are several small restaurants, including a pizza place, under the railway arches which are about 500 metres from the hotel but I can't tell you if they are any good or not as I didn't eat in any of them myself. There are other restaurants on the main road between the hotel and the city centre but the best value food seems to be in the university quarter just the on other side of the city centre. As one would expect the most expensive place to eat is in and around the main square. -
Wroclaw GP
Lucky Star replied to sjw ministerofport's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I stayed at the Orbis Wroclaw Hotel this year and can recommend both this hotel and the city in general. It is a very modern hotel and the views of the city centre from one side of the hotel are awesome. They also do a very good breakfast. Tram no. 17 stops just outside the hotel and runs direct to the Olympic Stadium on the other side of the city. The hotel is handy for the main railway station but it is a 10/15 minute walk to the main square. I booked through www.hrs.de which I use for most of my hotel bookings all over Europe. They do online bookings with instant confirmation and unless you plan to arrive after 6pm you do not even need to give your credit card details in advance. Be warned though that most places in Poland only accept the new PIN - type credit cards - they will not accept those with the old magnetic strip on the back.
