The package that he asked for was significantly higher than the figure asked for by Edward Kennett. Given that NBJ was likely to be third heat leader if was viewed excessive. Given the state of speedway in this country and the crowd levels at Rye House it would have been suicidal for the Promotion to agree. Like it or not British and Australians are a far better bet given that they are based here rather than Danes Swedes and Poles who are constantly flying in and out

Rye House V Newcastle Koc Semi 1st Leg
westhamboy66 replied to StevePark's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Fixed nights will be the death of the sport. Often missed but is a act that that supporters numbers are boosted by People attending multiple meetings every week. Restrict the race nights and the numbers will dwindle. We need to accept the riders level of ability has fallen and will fall again if the Poles do restrict the riders to two leagues via their Polish contracts. I am anti amalgamating the EL and PL but next year it may well be necessary as their is little chance that the top riders will ride here and have to give up either Sweden and Poland. The only way forward seems to be a larger top division, giving the riders more meetings but at the same time stppoing doubling up / down as the less financially fortunate PL clubs would be joining the NL to leave two divisions. Sick of Guests and the non availability of riders like Kennett when the club who owns his contract are denied the ability to use him like tonight. a pathetic state of affairs. Lambert is different but his non availability does have a knock on effect to Rye House finances as i'm sure a good few neutrals would have attended -

NBJ...Unless he drops his pre season set up demands he won't be back at Rye

Set the tone right from the first heat 5-1. Rob Branford really coming good looking unbeatable in the NL and a quality reserve at Pl level Everyone chipped in but i'm sure Kennett felt he had a point to prove after the stick he got re the Plymouth fixture. Who knows a couple of decent performances against Scunthorpe we might even avoid finishing bottom.I'm sure the owners will see a NL 4TT win, a Cup Semi and finishing 11th as a great season A word about Kevin Doolan, I have loved watching him over his long career, always puts in the effort and a very sporting bloke both during and after the meeting, great with fans and especially the kids, a credit to Berwick I thought the running of the first meeting by the Ref was pretty good trying his best to keep it moving but the three kids races starting just when the NL fixture should have started? is there no common sense from the Promotion. Midway through the NL meeting i had had enough with many having left before me. These five hour plus double headers are a joke and fans wonder why speedway gets a bad name from local residents.

Plymouth Vs Rye House 19/08/2016 @ 1915
westhamboy66 replied to pitgate52's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
To be fair the quality Guest wasn't there, had we had say Danny King and he scored a dozen points nobody would be questioning why Edward wasn't at Plymouth. The other thing is would it not be morally wrong to have engaged Douglas then to cancel him when he would have either been on the road or preparing to go. I know i would have had the hump easy to knock Douglas but its hardly his fault. What sort of message would that send to a future guest replacing Kennett in similar circumstance e.g. Sheffield on the 1st. I thing the Promotion may well have been getting a fair few refusals. Kennett has been a decent rider for Rye but like most riders who double up they save their best for the EL much in the same way as the GP riders who are disappointing in the EL and suddenly improve when they are in Sweden and Poland, sadly all down to money -
Plymouth Vs Rye House 19/08/2016 @ 1915
westhamboy66 replied to pitgate52's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Whether Kennet could be bothered is one issue what bothers me more is the rule regarding the Contract holding team does not have exclusive use of an asset if the meeting is a rearranged one and clashes with the doubling up team. Not the first time it has happened and i see that on September 1st our three times re arranged match at Sheffield also clashes with Lakeside at Kings Lynn. As far as Edward goes his brilliant form started to take a downturn as soon as he signed for Lakeside and his scores for them were generally as good or even better than for Rye. There is definitely a problem there. As fot Plymouth well done to come back even despite the ludicrous double points race having a massive effect on the result. Given our choice of guest a meeting that we gave away What me me laugh over on FB is the love in going on in the Rye House Fans group. Seems the Promotion do no wrong, this despite the stadium remaining a dump and the worst team building effort i can remember at Rye even worse than the dark Ronnie Russell days. I left the group as i was continually knocked for being negative. Still i suppose we got what we deserve looking back at the complaints when we were thumping everyone by 30 points a meeting and lapping up the match bonus points, well the moaners then got what their wish, generally close meetings every week but unfortunately we can't buy a win. Sad days, i love my Speedway but enjoy the Rye House aspect less and less. Ironic considering the success Silver has made at Kent once he concentrated on them 100%. -
Farce? Maybe. Total Farce? Nah. Mr Drury wins hands down when it come to total Farces. From Mildenhall to his last total farce running the clock down at Sittingbourne he comes out top of the pile every time. As a neutral who goes to kent a lot i hope birmingham come a cropper Big style in this tie. Perhaps it a Midlands thing with Birmingham rapidly overtaking Cradley as the most unpopular team in the NL.

Rockets V Somerset Sun 31st July 4pm Double Header
westhamboy66 replied to waco's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
In the right side with a "team" riding with them i think Cameron and Rob would be ok but the make up from day one was shocking. A decent team is one with a quality number one and two reserves that can do it home and away. Not knocking Edward as he is head and shoulders above the rest but once again his form dips when he doubles up and his Pl form dips. Edward should be capable of winning every heat 15 at home but in the final heat he's like a different rider. Ben is fine at home but has he made the progress needed away from home? Leigh is surely in his last season and despite a great career he is very much a one line rider and it's no good trying to rely on ability to get out of the gate as he no longer has it. Kasper on the right track is great even if he's ten yards behind at the the first bend but he has had enough time and simply isn't up to it. Whenever Len Silver put a team out like this one he was castigated and yet the new mob clearly have no idea. On top of that despite all the promises and no action for a month the place still resembles a dump so i assume any improvements will come with the bad weather in the winter. Finally i've had it with the five hour Double headers a waste of time on a dustbowl of a track. Pretty pathetic all round -
Kent Vs Birmingham - 18th July
westhamboy66 replied to lucifer sam's topic in National League Speedway
Was 32 degrees there, water truck came out after every race, couple of crashes they couldn't hurry it on.Ok so they have a couple of mascots and a short parade if they did away with that it would give the Silver haters even more ammunition, start at 6.15 well there are enough complaints that 6.30 is too early. Easy to apportion blame but there was only one man to blame and that is Drury up to his Mildenhall tricks again. Time was wasted on purpose which robbed the fans of a last heat decider. If anyone thinks that Drury was cute they need their head examined. Birmingham won on the night, they will probably win the league and another title for Drury won at any cost in a pathetically cynical way. Speedway and dare i say the fans were the real losers. It's not just Kent fans who suffer at the hands of the dreaded curfew, look at Berwick. In this case it would have made no diffence. rider fails to come out gets chucked out for failing to beat the two minutes, Ref gets the info from the pits about reserve replacement another 30 seconds then a fresh two mins and the reserve replacement comes onto the track with five seconds to spare. they did it twice so thats nine minutes wasted not bad when there is a curfew and the cynical management run down the clock heat 14 finished bang on curfew. Out of the refs hand, during the meeting the water cart came on after every race and it was needed otherwise everyone would be screaming about the dust It would happen at Birmingham if they were losing approaching heat 10 and the rain was falling. Not strictly cheating but the fans taken for mugs again by Drury. How any fan who pays their money is happy to see this sort of cynical management is beyond me -
This is the National League, If anything too many riders like Morley and Branford are allowed to continue in the league far longer than the League was designed for. Hats off to those riders who continually fall, I remember a 16 year old Lee Richardson doing the same when he started out, he didn't turn out too bad. I enjoy watching all three leagues for very different reasons and if anything the NL has become too professional
-
To be fair the track took so much water that it was amazing Saturday's meeting was on. Given the massive downpour at heat 10 that caused abandonment then i thought it was highly unlikely the British Youth meeting on sunday would go ahead. So i though that despot the dust and the blue groove the track held up well for 46 races. well done Rye House and all the competitors it was an enjoyable meeting
-
Being purely selfish I wasted nearly four hours driving, did 180 miles and it cost me about 25 quid in fuel. I do far less meetings these days as i simply don't risk travelling when there is a dodgy weather forecast anymore. But to turn up to a stadium and watch many others turning round and leaving for no apparent reason is a real kick in the teeth. I don't give a toss about a dispute over who can and can't ride this sort of thing just wouldn't be acceptable in a real sport. Whatever the rights and wrongs that is irrelevant and i wouldn't bother discussing it all i would say is that's my lot going to watch racing at Mildenhall as there is plenty of racing elsewhere. So who is the loser? Ultimately Mildenhall speedway as i'm sure there are more people than me thinking this way.

Rockets V Berwick Sat 4th June 7 Pm
westhamboy66 replied to waco's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Couldn't disagree with any of that Not sure why anyone would be surprised about Robbo and now he is riding for Lakeside Edward's form will dip no doubt like many other Pl riders whose EL performances outshine their PL meetings. -
To be fair ( and i have been critical of the new Promotion at Rye) i thought they did a brilliant bit of work on sunday to get the track back to some sort of racing quality than the bare concrete we have had at Rye for the second part of a double header for many years. so much So bad was it that i sometimes wondered what is the point for a League that should be all about helping the development of youngsters running in substandard conditions. That said i suppose some track time is better than none. But clearly the spectacle is reduced when the track iS poor whether it is being raced on by EL or NL riders.
-
I Live five minutes from the track has been absolutely pouring down hard as i can remember for years for about 30 minutes just a grey mercy horrible day. If its the same at the track then it would certainly be off. Maybe because of the cameras they will give it a bit and as i type it is easing off. Fingers grossed. Agree with what you say but it's not a farce that PL teams are not interested in moving up it is simple good business sense. Why would you move into a vastly more costly League, pay over rated riders a lot more money as they going through the motions. PL a much better prospect, with better racing for less money. Most of the sides who move up either realise their mistake and move straight back down or struggle from one embarrassment to the next unless they are one of the few well run clubs. Many clubs having had their fingers burned have settled in to the NL and made a success of things rather than losing money hand over fist. Birmingham and Eastbourne both spring to mind. Some speedway is better than none as many would find forced promotion brings them.

Ipswich Vs Rye House Thurs 12th May Koc 1st Leg
westhamboy66 replied to Pob's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Pathetic from Rye House so far eight points down to a very average Ipswich sad sight of Leigh Lanham being so out of touch he was a full straight behind As for Peter Karger he has been a straight behind in every race and suffering the indignation of not being able to catch Danny King who fell and remounted and still beat Karger easily. Fantastic from Kennett ok from Heeps but a below par from Robson Amazing to say At heat 12 we are still in the tie. Two very poor teams -

westhamboy66 replied to ellioth4's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Good to see the win with Lanham and Heeps scoring well away from home. Good Management to give Peter Karger his four rides. Along with Kasper he is a weak link and you won't improve him by constantly taking him out of his fourth ride when a match is won. -
Bspa Warning About Live Streaming
westhamboy66 replied to robert72's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
But carrying a warning in a speedway programme is of little legal use to the BSPA anyway as it isn't a condition of entry to buy a programme so it is very easy to claim ignorance if any notices re photography etc aren't posted at the entrance http://www.gospeed.co.uk This is the Company who claim their product is being damaged but if they ever got heavy handed in the media rights issues they would be doing even more damage to their product. I for one have been looking to dump Speedway as a pastime after fifty years of watching and heavy handiness in this issue is a poor reflection on those running our sport. The claim in their website that speedway is a growing sport is a joke. Alienating a single speedway fan is a joke The moment they took a photograph of a person then circulated it to other clubs to post the photo for staff to see they themselves may well find themselves in hot water legally. Equally can you actually envisage a turnstile employee checking a photo or several come to that matter against all that enter? Exactly but but the BSPA who are clearly numbskulls don't understand that Banning orders at Football are typically due to violence that's how the police get involved. As for taking photos at Football without consent...At West Ham you are not allowed to take in a Professional looking camera. No one searches you but if you are caught using it then they do confiscate equipment or eject those guilt of taking photos. As for banning people yes they do sometimes confiscate season tickets of supporters without compensation but they have zero power to stop someone then going to another ground. -
Cradley V Rye Raiders 12th April 7-30 Pm
westhamboy66 replied to waco's topic in National League Speedway
Slightly harsh given the Rye have Rob Branford delayed arriving in Britain and also given that actually Luke Priest has been the top scorer with decent returns in the initial matches and Hopwood is a seasoned heat leader at this level. That said Rye House are not a stand alone team and are using untried kids in an attempt to give them experience and maybe bring the odd rider through for the senior team. Laudable if you ask me. I'd rather be watching a team of kids making their way in the sport than a club who go out to buy the NL title as some clubs do. -
Rye House V Ipswich Witches 9th April
westhamboy66 replied to Baldyman's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Not sure why outsiders persist in touting for a return to Rye for Mear. Wasted talent who is way past his best and was an ungrateful little sod while at Rye. If he ever came back to Rye i doubt many would give him the time of day. Here's hoping lakeside is as close to hertfordshire that he gets Had he by some fluke managed to get round the outside it could have been the big turning point though i agree even at the P&P day he looked far from comfortable including an awkward looking tumble on the 4th bend while on track alone. Seems like he was a big mistake who may well come good in the future but realistically no better than many British kids in the NL at the moment -
Rye House Vs Plymouth Sat 19th March 7pm
westhamboy66 replied to barraider's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Impossible to call this. Plymouth look to have a decent side but if the Rye top five perform as we know they should then then that could well be enough. Big meeting and big season for Ben Morley now back at home but Peter Karger is the real concern for me. Apart from who his Dad is i know little about him but i hope he gets off to a good start.Interesting to see what the track is like as it was very dusty at practice even with only one rider on the track. -
Don't think the kerb has been moved so the track size remains the same so i can't see a need to expunge the current record? Not sure really. Proper riders with knowledge of the track rarely got caught out by the camber, in fact if its dead flat then it may well make the second bend racing less interesting, time and a few races will tell i suppose

As one of the obnoxious minority i am so pleased you have chosen not to attend. At least the obnoxious contributors on here put their hands in their pockets and give the club their hard earned cash unlike you who sat in the Refs box boring us silly while of course not parting with anything. Why you don't stay away from this forum i will never know. You never have a good word for anyone who has a differing view from you. You are Mr McCaffrey a very sad individual.
