Rye House V Workington... 5th July, 7pm
westhamboy66 replied to Shadders's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Dump the the lot of them, no one rider can escape criticism tonight apart from our Guest who was out of his depth. No excuses whether its lack of quality, poor form, rubbish equipment no excuse is valid. As for the idiot Team Manager why give Garrity a TR in his race following his engine blow up, was anyone surprised to him grind to a halt again. -

Well the drink and food is optional so don't have it With one or two exceptions, mainly due to the poor refs the fifteen heats are general done in under two hours which should be the case due to the dodgy weather and thats average, the racing beats the Elite rubbish at Lakeside so rather than listen to the perennial moaners give it a chance. You may come away surprised that it was a decent nights entertainment and happy in the knowledge that unlike some other tracks the riders will be paid -

Less Than 60% Brits In Pl - Is It Right?
westhamboy66 replied to Bryn's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
We have a woeful team at Rye House this year, very much done on the cheap. Discarding Aspgren and Mellgren seems like a massive mistake as far as the on track fortunes go. Only the last minute hitch with Nelson has seen a Continental rider take his place, the only foreigner in the team. Guess what? The team may not be doing good, the crowd may be complaining but Len Silver is paying his riders on time and we have Speedway, something Birmingham no longer have and possibly something Eastbourne wont have either. Surely time for outing the Continental foreigners to save weekly (or more) air fairs and utilise the riders we have. Apart from the return air fair Aussies cost no more than their British Counterparts. Ok so the standard will go down but to be fair its a long time since there was anything Elite about the Elite league. Just because a meeting has loads of foreign riders it doesn't mean the crowd will increase accordingly just look at Leicester for example Of course there are but it would cause the standard of rider to fall, but that doesn't actually mean the standard of racing would decline probably the opposite -
The biggest crime these Promoters are guilty of is the fact that they haven't paid their riders for some time. Treated like a boys toy the club is in debt to the riders who not only have massive expenses to meet and wages to be earned but risk life and limb in the process which is shameful Quite why Birmingham chose to move "up" to the "Elite" league i really don't know I hope for all the Brummies fans and riders sake that the cub is saved and returns to the league that is viable next year.

Probably because the riders lively hood is more imprtant to him than British Speedway? Silver would have known the dates Tres would be away when he signed him but i suspect he or his sidekick Mr Motivator Sampford didn't realise the rules for a replacement.Riding on the continent as a well respected Grass / Longtrack rider he will be reasonably well paid, far more than at Rye House Only ones to blame in this instance is the club What riles me more is the fact that we have had to use a NL replacement for Stefan Nielsen when he has been riding in the EL. The EL is falling apart about time the BSPA realised that and went back to one big league and a stand alone NL. Much better products Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see a few points from Simon Lambert meaning the difference between a win or a lossJust how many points have been scored by Stefan Nielsen or his replacements since Simon left ? With Tres riding i think a Rye win without who knows, never a happy hunting ground for the Comets. All being equal looks like a rainoff and maybe a trip to Eastbourne v KL -

If the Rockets get 40 i would be delighted. Too often in previous years we were on the wrong end of a thumping. Don't expect us to get anything to continue our decent run there but for me it's always worth a trip for some good racing. Hope we get a good meeting and no injuries. -

Be careful what you wish for. Greg like Nicki Pedersen will be sorely missed when they quit, for me both are box office for different reasons. Greg does have a conservative style but that beats the erratic fast boys half his age plus he is fantastic for the media and fans alike when they meet him. -
Trouble is that Lanham gives you very little away from home, we are not great at home by any means but stable and maybe Leigh could improve the side there but when away istill think Tres is a better option.Thinks its all down to being inconsistent, if everyone clicked at Foxall the other night we would have won but i can't remember every rider producing in the same meeting this year

Rye House V Redcar 28.06.13
westhamboy66 replied to bolly's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Of course he would if it meant an income for him, profits from food and drink and a sizeable rent. Now who would be the idiot to take that on, having to pay rent, assemble a team probably from scratch and accept that a prospective crowd with a winning team would be unlikely to attract 500 fans. Not viable i think. In the current state of affairs Silver is in a catch twenty two situation keep it cheap run with a poor side and lose a few fans week in week out or attempt to bring in costly foreign riders, assemble a decent team in the hope of the gates increasing. Think i know which option he will go for. -

Rumours generally not worth spit, with the leaseholder being Len Silver it couldn't be forced on the Speedway Stadium so the only way it would happen is if it had his blessing. Now that may be the case but if it was true then only he would know. I remember him saying some years ago the Speedway would be safe as long as he is alive. Many things are said about Len but one thing i have found since my first knowledge of the bloke is that he is a man of his word. If he was about to sell up then why would he have spent anything on the place this year. Tres may be riding in a field somewhere in Europe but he will be earning far more than he would have done at Rye. Its a sad indictment of speedway that more excitement can be had in a field in Marmande in one race than the entire Grand Prix at Cardiff all for 25 Euros at the Longtrack GP. As for Tres being a panic signing again it says a lot about the real problems of British Speedway. The draft system introduced supposedly to give the youngsters more experience is really a cost cutting exercise for the EL and confirmation that there are simply not enough riders to go around these days. Len's real mistake was having anything to do with Nelson for his 2014 season, he's just not worth the risk. -

The sort of people that should be considered for a team manager at rye should really be an ex rider who would have motivational skills not an ex fan who has a stop watch, makes zero decisions without looking at Len and one who gives the most inane interviews ever published. John sadly is like a little kid in a chocolate factory, a strong personality is required but that ain't ever going to happen. Was bad enough when Ronnie Russell fancied himself as a team manager explaining once to Rob Woffinden what lines to use in his short stay at Rye, I'll not bother saying where Rob told Ronnie to go. Not sure about JB as a captain but he has hardly set the place alight in his time at Rye, Eddie on the other hand has simply got to lead by example. I don't see an early call off but with more NL riders as cover the top four will need to score big if we want anything from the meeting -

Well I'm sure Tres gave the Management ample information when he signed i suspect Silver / Mr Motivator believed they would be able to use a guest for his grass track commitments just shows how much care was taken there. I don't blame Tres I'm sure he makes more money on the grass. His race win last night from the back was the best ride i have seen from any Rocket this season. The draft riders or whatever you want to call them are a bloody nuisance. I fail to see how they will improve in the EL basically riding against NL riders whilst they could be riding against better riders in the PL. Great example is Ben Morley who is a million miles away from PL standard but is lulled into a false sense of security by scoring big at Lakeside I don't see a massive improvement in Adam Ellis and when there are fixture clashes his PL club suffers. I have long thought PL is the best product in British Speedway but even that league is now being diluted for the benefit of the ridiculously named Elite League -

Probably the best racing i have seen at Ipswich for a long time, thanks to Kennett, Boxall and Tres for some spirited riding shame for us they couldn't keep it going. Fed up with the need to continually use a NL guest for Stefan Nielsen, since we signed him we have had a total of half a straight from him, then thanks to his unavailability due to other commitments and injuries that is it. Puts us at a complete disadvantage as without knocking riders like Marc Owen we start the meeting knowing we have ten percent of our rides that will get a big fat zero, having an effective No 7 could have seen us go home with a well deserved point -
When there is a new promotion they must have an established promoter on board to enable them to get a licence. A recent example was the new promoter ? Debbie Hancock at Somerset who had help from i think Alun Rossiter during the first season Hopefully Rye a House will not be neglected further due to the Kent Connection. Rye House fans are sick of our club suffering doe to the attention being paid to Kent. Mr Cearns is a big boy i am sure he can run the sport on his own now.

The Russell brothers were proactive how many tracks did they close down? If Len was reactive he would dump 30 Ton of dirt on the Rye track, he would have beer on tap, he would increase the quality, portion size and order enough fish in the chip shop. Then again he is still running a track that most wouldn't touch with a barge pole and paying rent to no one, not to mention that he pays riders on time oh yeah not to forget he took speedway to its newest venue far plusher than most EL tracks and of course on the side he runs a ski firm rubbish we may be at the moment but as long as he is at the helm we will have speedway, how they would like that at Wimbledon, Hackney, Crayford, Romford, Reading, Oxford, Hull, etc etc. Yeah the blokes an idiot....

Think the EL fans need a lesson in how weak the EL is compared to the PL. Ben Morley when riding for lakeside is sheltered by enlarge to ride against draft riders whose skill base is similar to his own, he then rides for Rye and all of a sudden he is up against far superior riders and that is reflected in his scores. Those who clamour for him to be a full time Rocket need to understand you can't want a league place in the PL based on his performance against NL riders at his home track at Lakeside Glasgow did well last night and were unfortunate not to take a point away with them good to see Edward at his best

Edinburgh Vs Rye House (20th Of June)
westhamboy66 replied to CaptainAudi's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
People slag off Nicki Pedersen for his antics and yet who is the rider most talked about on the forum ..oh yes Nicki. A meeting is over at Armadale and what are people talking about? The racing? The score? No Mr Garrity. He's one of the few i am happy to watch at Rye House. Funny how Edinburgh supporters forget the Antics of Mr Cook down at Foxall, criminal damage is obviously ok? One of the things missing from Speedway are the likes of Mullarkey, Grant, Millen etc being present to liven things up. We don't miss them til they are gone. Its a high octane sport and these things happen enjoy them don't try and sterilise the sport even further, God whatever next Female Start Marshalls or Refs??? -
For me the day Chris Neath was injured at Ipswich a very large part of the spirit died that day. He was a big part of the very good teams, yes others may have taken the plaudits be he always stepped up at home to win heat fifteen if needed. He is sorely missed at Rye like no other rider since i started going mid seventies. Yes many pretenders came along like Kasper and we have had many false dawns. I remember the night at Leicester when he was the only rider to pass anyone and that on his debut too but like many others he proved to be a damp squib. It's not even the poor teams that get me its that idiot of a team manager that rolls out the excuses every week, they get better and better, glad to see Steve Boxall over his machinery problems but the poor love now struck down with a dodgy throat will the luck blighting us ever go away. Once again the season over by June no pairs or fours to look forward to just the long trips away to watch a second rate team that i doubt would be good enough to win at Cradley Not since the breakup of the 1980 team have i been so depressed at Rye, just nothing on the horizon to be excited about. I wont moan about Glasgow arriving again at least we might get a win

Kent and Rye House situations cannot in any way be comparedYes there are some similarities that both clubs own their own stadia which serve both clubs well, Len Silver is co promoter at both tracks but in Kent's situation that was a requirement for a new promotion. There the story ends Operating in different leagues with different goals. Rye House have a history of being a relatively successful club and that is where most of the problems lie for us. Kent on the other hand are attempting two things ...one to become established in the sport which they have managed very well. The other is to have a more liberal licence that allows more usage, later start / finish times more racing etc. if that is granted then it would seem logical that they would be in a position to move up. To be fair i firmly believe that Rye House have suffered badly since Mr Silver became involved at Kent rather than the other way round. Not only is it the time consumption that is a problem but also the fact that Bank Holiday meetings no longer take place at Hoddesdon as the Promotion are busy in a Kent, Rye have had to revert to a 2PM start on a sunday that no only clashes with Mildenhall but isn't particularly welcomed by the fans either. Furthermore the cheap weak side that Rye House have put out is partly because of the large expense of the airfence which has seen two popular Swedish riders leave the club due to costs. The addition of a rider like Steve Boxall to Rye House as second heat leader has quite frankly become a joke. He may have got away with sub standard machinery in the NL but currently is barely a reserve standard in the PL. These are some of the reasons that there is unrest at Rye none of which affect Kent.

Rye House V Somerset 7th June
westhamboy66 replied to Dave Stummings's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Not sour grapes as the extra five points from the two ridiculous tactical rides flattered Rye but how on earth can you take a match seriously when the home side contains three guests Completely outclassed tonight, not really a surprise, i can just about bother to make a couple of points Congratulations to Richie Hawkins who despite being hounded out of Rye by disgruntled supporters returned and rode very well and actually seemed pleased to be riding well for us, FairPlay to the boy. I hope that everyone who continually call for Ben Morley to be included in the Rye team will now realise how far away from the required standard he is, its one thing to do ok in the NL and against mainly NL riders in the EL and another to ride at reserve in the PL. The three ex Rockets (not including Robbo) in the Somerset side all had decent nights. Rarely did Oliver ride that well for us last year, Pontus came good after a dodgy start and how impressive has Paul Starke been this year. If i had a choice my first person out of the door would be Sampford and his stopwatch. The most inept Team Manager i have seen, just a fan who must wake up every morning in heaven, well John time to go. Let's get an ex rider in who have some sort of motivation for a bunch of no confidence riders all the way from one to seven
