  1. Hopefully the weather is ok, looking forward to see Scunthorpe and their raw kids, best wishes to them, grass roots speedway as it is meant to be
  2. The National League should be aimed at teams like the one Scunthorpe are putting out, not to view the last knockings of an average vet like David Mason. I applaud what Scunthorpe are trying to do and lets not forget that the current World Champion started his career at this very club. As for the weather the BBC is probably the most conservative forecasters and to say that may rain all part or none of monday which they are doing makes them the last mob i would look to fore a forecast. I tend to use forecast.co.uk who are showing 2.4mm of rain between 11and 4 which should damp the dust nicely Scunthorpe Speedway are more in tune with the NL than the likes of Cradley or those who aspire to be like them. I hope their riders are supported for their efforts and it will my chance to watch another Moggo for the first time.
  3. You don't pull out of a race while in the points for no reason as Edward did at Ipswich on thursday, he was in extreme discomfort in the pits and anyone who has had a trapped nerve could tell you how the pain can come and go. For me he is the one rider who started the season who is above criticism. Not sour grapes as i say the same even if Rye gain advantage but lets get rid of this ridiculous T/R that spoilt rather than made the meeting. Somerset may have clawed their way back from ten points down but the 8-1 they got knocked the stuffing out of Rye. Artificially massaging meetings back to life maybe what the EL need for the telly but it makes a mockery of what is a decent product in the PL A word of encouragement too for Ollie Greenwood who despite only three points looks like he could one day be the real deal, i hope we can hang on to him Big Ron's days were nowhere near as bad as the early eighties, don't like the bloke myself but at least Ron gave us the likes of Goodwin, Rasmussen, O'Brien Woffinden Snr and a string of others who entertained.
  4. Don't think that what happened last night has much to do with tonight Depends which riders turn up Boxall for example looked ok at Ipswich then none from five at Somerset. Those wondering if this is the worst time the Rockets have endured probably wont remember the times after the break up of the 1980 Championship team when it was a real embarrassment following the Rockets to places like Exeter for the ritual slaughter I suppose Allen and Starke will put in far better performances than they ever did as Rockets but given the ease with which we put away Redcar you never know. Whatever happens i hope that the majority of the team are shown the door at the end of the season and that the Promoters decide to concentrate on Rye rather than Kent which has dragged our club to new lows. If not there wont be a club.
  5. Makes me smile all the do gooders who are holier than thou. Would you all have the same opinions if you had to be drug tested for your own run of the mill occupations then sacked for a failed test. Amazing how everyone lines up to kick a kid when he's down without knowing the facts. None of this should be in the public domain until after the B test. Alcohol does more damage to society than any recreational drug and yet is widely accepted, wonder what the punishment is for a rider who fails a breathalyser pre meeting as opposed a drug test, doubt a ban would be comparable
  6. For me out of the seven we have in our side only three should be retained for next year, Kennett, Mellgren and Greenwood. Another embarrassment tonight Garrity and Bunyan quite frankly are a disgrace in our colours, although Luke has appeared to improve on his travels he remains a passenger away from home. If only Boxall could be on some sort of acceptable equipment he would be worth a place. I only hope we can give Somerset a meeting at Rye tomorrow but i feel the ex Rockets in their side will come back and bite us again.
  7. I really hope that Emil comes back into the series ASAP. I made a few trips to see him when he was over to ride for Coventry and the gates were surely boosted by his appearances even if he wasn't at his best. I honestly believe that with the skill and excitement added to his nationality he brings something we have rarely seen since Penhall. I really believe he could become the poster boy for Speedway in such a way that no other current rider can be. As good as Tai and Darcy are they just cannot match Emil's charisma. Although i can't believe the calls for Hancock to step down because his way of winning is boring i do think the current top fifteen has gone a little stale Shame the boy has been shafted in Poland i just wish the EL would see the sense in going for a proper squad system enabling the return of the likes of Emil and Nicki rather than the idea of a single day of EL racing here that simply wouldn't work. Tai may think its a great idea but there is simply no understanding of the average fan who goes to speedway multiple times in a week to watch the sport they love. Great that Speedway Star got an interview i just wish that during the closed season similar big names including promoters etc were approached to do a question and answer article with the questions being generated by the fans who are not all idiots as seems to be the current view
  8. With Mellgren riding and getting 7 or 8 which is not unrealistic our first away point would have on. Carrying another passenger at reserve doesn't help, Jason Bunyan has surely come to the end of the road at Rye. Some good racing especially from Richie Hawkins made it an ok night now onto our next drubbing at Somerset.
  9. Interestingly nothing about the team changes on either the Rye House Website or Twitter. Says it all really as if our team isn't poor enough without the loss of Anders we have to find out from a forum that quotes the Ipswich website. would have been bloody annoyed had i travelled without knowing, Goes with the territory at Rye these days
  10. Gonna go but i'm not sure why. Sick of the ridiculous RR/NL Guests we have had to put up with again this season at rye, NL guests in place of supposed PL Heat leaders no wonder the sport is in a state. Not only that but i reckon there are a fair few supporters of both clubs who should be sick of the sight of each other. Don't care who we lose to but so many meetings involving these two sides, The PL is getting as bad and boring as the EL. Still i suppose i'll go home happy if we hit the big 30
  11. Good meeting surprise result for me. Expected a big away win as i felt it was highly unlikely the make up of the Kent team could carry the burden of RR. Although not a Kent supporter i do attend most weeks and by enlarge enjoy the surroundings and a decent Speedway night out. Shame the forum page is spoilt by petty comments from those who don't attend Kent on monday nights, yes i have been vocal when i felt things were badly wrong at a meeting but to come on here have a pop just to provoke kent fans is no more than childish, sadly the same happens on the Rye House threads which reflect more about the idiots on the forum rather than the forum itself
  12. Once Boris found out that speedway bikes produced noise and were powered not by pedals but an engine he would campaign for the sports banning. God you lot are so gullible. Mmmm you would trust our police to catch a murderer then have 12 morons vote on the probably innocent persons life or death, another reason to stay in the EU
  13. In defence of Craig Saul i see no problem with a clipboard and off the cuff stuff tends to be rubbish anyway. His research rather than being amateur tends to suggest he cares about getting things right and he exudes professionalism, we have had much worse over the years at Rye House. Mike Bennett was always entertaining but the best there has been in my time of Speedway watching was the the late great Ted Sear, so in demand always unruffled and a great voice. He seemed in total control and was strictly neutral which is how i like it. A big mention also to Kevin's Long and Coombs who do great jobs. I don't see the need to mention who are worst
  14. We were expected to finish last, just great to see the support from the the fans carries right on the end. What a pathetic bunch ...the forum muppets not the riders
  15. All in all a good night, seemed like a different attitude around the team. I hope this years failings are understood by the Promotion. Any quality side needs a decent number one and two very good reserves. Edward seems to be regaining his confidence and enjoying himself, JB has returned to reserve which is the right place for him to be and Oliver Greenwood continues to impress. Mr Silver in his programme notes bemoans the Footy World Cup, is everyone around him too scared to tell him the truth concerning a rubbish team, disjointed fixtures and the fact that his finger cannot be on the pulse of two tracks at the same time all being the real reasons for falling attendances Was surprised at the crowd last night, much better than i would have expected from a mid week 7.30 start. Regular watering in the right parts of the track kept the inevitable dust down and also made for a consistent track for a change The nonsense of our sport still continues to amaze me. On one hand we have been deprived the use of either a similar average guest or r/r for Matty T despite the fact that he has been competing in FIM ratified events and last night Mark Lemon who is away filling in a programme for Team Aussie the night after this meeting and they are able to cover with r/r. Even at NL level have we ever had a rider fall six times in a meeting? Felt a bit sorry for the boy but is there really no British rider capable of doing a better job Mr Havelock?
  16. Best wishes Andre. Simon Stead pat on the back great ambassador for the sport I watch all three leagues regularly and as a spectacle it is the PL that has the best product by far Reading between the lines you give the impression you would like to see places like Owlerton close down
  17. For me i want to see racing every Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday but in the current scheme of things it aint going to happen. Normally a stalwart at home fixtures i would have probably gone but given the win for GB at Kings Lynn and the fact that Essex are on the telly in crickets 20 20 i am not too upset My preference would be to see a full strength Newcastle team as well. If ever ever you watched an afternoon meeting in hot sunny weather you wouldn't wish Saturday afternoon racing on anyone at Hoddesdon. Sadly until the Promotion lose their interest in Speedway in Kent we aint going nowhere
  18. Thanks for the advice but ...i pay road tax but mustn't use local roads? ok...i must remember to consign my £300 sat nav to the bin and pop out and buy a map that wont show the local roads i suppose....beggars belief i do hope in future the village people stay clear of the M25 and A13 when they come to lakeside as the manure from their horse drawn carts leave us townies very unhappy.
  19. I don't think Claret was being unreasonable at all. Its a nothing meeting between a team that doesn't exist and another team that has had to look elsewhere to make up their team. Given the difficulties in getting to Arena on a friday night it may well have been an incentive to set the price accordingly. Sorry Bryn but the comments about not having to use the Dartford tunnel is pretty daft and obviously mischievous. Some people who continually knock down sensible comments because they challenge those who run our once great sport become tiresome having such a one way blinkered view. I praise when praise is due like sunday having free entry at Eastbourne but there are times when Promoters get it wrong.
  20. Ticket touting...a new low for this forum...still at least it had a happy ending
  21. All very sad, the last meeting i was at saw three military planes land at MAFB causing ten times the noise of a Speedway meeting. Still amazed at these findings. Newham Council used to field many hundreds of complaints from local residents in regard of WHUFC and the nuisance caused by football they always responded with the stadium has been there since 1904 so everyone living there would have been aware and as such nullified their complaints
  22. so its better for fans to turn up, pay to get in then have the meeting postponed just before the start wasting everybody's money. I used to attend around eighty meetings a year now its down to sixty. The reason ....because too many times in the past at places like Peterborough and Kings Lynn I have paid my money to get in and been shocked at the state of the track knowing full well the meeting would never be on and was let in just to get my money. So now if there is a dodgy forecast i won't go simply because their are some unscrupulous Promoters that have the fans over, that said i trust the likes of Eastbourne Rye and Lakeside my most local tracks to make an honest decision. Why should Len Silver throw money away when there is a high possibility of a postponement. If he did what all the whiners wanted the club would be bankrupt and go the same way as Birmingham Ordinarily i would agree but this was slightly different. The size of the storms we suffered would easily wipe out a meeting. whilst they were few and far between the downpours were heavy enough to cause localised flooding. the Forecasts were more favourable but since when are they even 50% right? At 4PM all of the riders would have been on the way and gone are the days when nearly all of the fourteen riders would be living within a couple of hours travel.think he got it right even though he got it wrong if you know what i mean
  23. I applaud Coventry for a pretty decent offer and hopefully it will encourage the affected people to visit Coventry next year too My club Rye House don't offer a season ticket and i doubt they ever will. That said i emailed Jon Cook at Lakeside and asked would it ever be possible to purchase a block of vouchers for any BSPA venue and get say a ten percent discount. For example I buy £200 voucher use it at Lakeside one week and they take their admission fees of £17 less ten person off the voucher value. The following week i attend Rye House and they take their fee of £16 less ten percent. The benefits would be i get a cheaper admission the BSPA are guaranteed that i have to spend a set amount of money which they would have up front these could be stored on a credit card type of card and would be easily accessible at both tracks as they used credit card machines. The BSPA could sell them via their website or at participating tracks. I thought it was a good idea, there maybe a hundred reasons why it wouldn't work but at the very least i thought i would get a response as Mr Cook is on the Management committee. Well that was last year and of course i didn't get any sort of response, typical i suppose. When Graham Drury was in charge at Birmingham i emailed him twice and both times got same day replies. No wonder Birmingham got stuffed when he walked away Because Speedway doesn't have anywhere near as many supporters that it thinks it has because many fans are speedway fans, i attend regularly at Ipswich Kent Lakeside Eastbourne and as many others that i can and it has nothing to do with my team Rye House being there or not and guess what, i am far from being alone as i see the same old faces at many venues.
  24. Arthur You are underestimating the crowds at Lakeside. I would say they are one of the safest clubs as long as Arena Essex remains available to them. Not on my telly they don't
  25. No i don't think Lambert is better than Stead at this moment in time. Cook has proved he's not up to it unlike Harris who has never let down Team GB. All this think of the future stuff makes me laugh. Good thinking if you are looking to progress young talent but that's not what the World Cup is all about. There is clearly a need for us to return to a few Test matches that could surely be arranged, then the kids could be blooded without the pressure. Whist having an eye on the future we mustn't neglect to remember the importance of today. Danny King will give it a good go as will Simon Stead, the bulk of the scoring will need to be from Woffinden and Harris and i think we will have a decent chance of winning the round
