  1. All the trouble? Other than comments from Bunyan and Possibly Mellgren what trouble was that? Riders time and time again agree that the amount of dirt at Rye House is a difficult question given the tight bends, current bike set ups, silencers, lay down engines and a loss of track width due to the air fence. Poor more dirt down for 2015 let's see how many NL riders manage to turn the bikes. No Len Silver doesn't get everything right, far from it but given his track record of Promoting at more venues than I can remember, multiple league titles, Manager of the National Team when speedway was at its height and responsible for being entrusted with the track prep at Wembley for the biggest meetings around, what does he know But of course the Forum experts know so much more about track prep. Couldn't agree more No to be successful you need two quality reserves which we may well have. You need a decent number one which Kennett can be. You need another two decent heat leaders which we may have in Garrity and Nelson or Boxall What we do have is a team that will rely on natural progression, experience, and decent equipment. If all of those things come good we could have a decent season. Too many ifs and buts for my liking but December is a little bit early to be condemning them to another poor season. Spot on
  2. As opposed to an unknown / assessed average / costly foreigner ? Yes every day of the week. Might not reach his average but would be mighty handy round somewhere like Peterborough. I wish him well
  3. Couldn't agree less. Sampford has been Team Manager at Rye since Speedway was re-introduced like him or not he loves the club, I would prefer an ex rider but it's not happening. Andrew Silver has taken an interest in developing young riders and has run the training schools at Rye for some time now so surely it was a logical step. There may even be further logic in involving him further with the PL team in coming years. Len Silver is Co Promoter at Kent, a position that was prompted by Mr Cearns need for an existing Promoter to act on his behalf as per BSPA rules with new PromotionsJohn Sampford is simply continuing in the role he has held since Kents first meeting. Perfectly logical. Good move by Len to get Andrew involved more at Rye House where he can be in control of riders he has developed through the training schools. Good sense for Rye and with all due respect what Kent do is of little interest on a thread about Rye House There are other things going on in Speedway that are far more baffling. Been going on since I started watching Speedway in the 60s Exactly which rule is being broken. Please tell me I'd love to know
  4. For me the best news for years is that Andrew is really becoming hands on at Rye. No better person to run the NL team and perhaps it marks the beginning of a new era at Rye House. Think it would be brilliant if he continued on as PL Promoter one day in the near future, just the kick up the backside the club needs, though I'm sure there are doubters on here who will say it would be more of the same old clique.
  5. Good news that Andrew Silver is taking over the side. Just what the side needs a damn good ex rider to help them on race nights. Hope this is just the beginning of real hands on involvement in the club
  6. Rye hasn't shrunk in size nor in the amount of dirt on the track since he came. His choice to be in the team and yes there are two sides to every story, his body language from mid season said it all. Just because you don't get heat fifteen is hardly a reason to throw a strop lasting the rest of the season. A very talented rider who seems to have been around forever but one who's 2014 average tells the story. Sadly he seems to get the support that Richie Hawkins never got in his time at Rye and looking at the two I know which one I would have rather had last season Think you hit the nail on the head, he's not underrated which is is why his showing of last season is so disappointing way under a five point average mostly from reserve
  7. Not many riders of Bunyans experience languish in the reserve spot and turn in so many pathetic performances in one season either. Pity the sixteen points wasn't for us
  8. Surely both Ayres and Morely are Rye House bound. Better practice facilities and the temptation of a PL place if things go well. Not sure what Lakeside running a NL team would have to do with Morely he is after all a Rye House asset so why wouldn't Len use him? Would be a very strange decision if he weren't at Rye next year. As for Lambert I hope Simon stays with Kent, he has found his real level at NL where he can excell. Only downside would be the travelling for home meetings again but that doesn't seem to worry him.
  9. No idea how that team will do. A lot of uncertainties with a new rider to British Speedway, what Boxall and Garrity will turn up and will Nelson take his place. Would have liked to have seen a proven heat leader line up to take some heat from Edward but it's all about potential and that often goes belly up but could easily go well too
  10. Agree with everything Shadders says. Positive start to the team building as long as Garrity shows the same positivity as his time with Coventry. Nelson needs to have his work permit in place by mid January or forget him and use the points elsewhere. A big hitter to help out Edward is also surely top of the list (No one from last year fits the bill). Oliver Greenwood surely did enough for a reserve berth in 2015. For me that would be a great start. The stadium needs a tidy up no doubt about it and if the 2015 season is the last with Len in total control I would not be surprised if JC moves from Arena. He and Len as Co Promoters would work just fine. Far too many uncertainties at Arena with the owner, sponsors and future for the raceway. Jon would be hands on and he is a voice in Speedway that I have a lot of respect for. As for being in the Elite? Well 2016 is a long way off for that league and there is no way a weekend track in the Elite is viable and I can't imagine mid week racing at Rye. All that said I feel a bit better about next season than I did in mid September
  11. Agreed the most they could do would be to have provisional dates for the Final which is of no help if there is a further postponement Cant blame the BSPA for the weather i'm afraid
  12. I agree was all set to go to Marmande again this year until the Cardiff GP messed that up. Went to Morizes instead and although not quite as good the track was interesting, a decent crowd and very good racing
  13. All this is a bit harsh on the NL. Whilst i primarily watch the PL i do watch a lot of EL and NL too If i was taking a newbie to Speedway i'd be more concerned what track to take them rather than which league. i've seen far better racing at Mildenhall and Sittingbourne this year than that i have suffered in the EL at places like Lakeside, Belle Vue and Wolverhampton. What you won't see at NL level are the wasters that are in our EL that are far from top riders picking up their earnings and doing zero for British Speedway. Gone are the days when the lower league riders turn up with sub standard equipment and are unable to stay on a bike. Yes there are some of those in the NL but their are many like that in the PL too and as far as taking someone to EL for their first taste of racing how long will it be before you find yourself trying to explain thorny issues like Guest riders
  14. Yes there are enough riders as long as they are happy for the standard at NL to drastically drop. For me thats the way to go the NL has become too professional for my liking. It should return to being a development league and the better NL riders should commit to PL racing and the top PL riders moving up to whats left of the EL. Hopefully squeezing out the pathetic foreign imports similar to a certain Pole who must now hold the record for falls in in one meeting after his efforts around Rye. i get sick of hearing the the European Law makers make it impossible for clubs to pick and chose, there are ways to go about it. Most of the Aussies are good value for money and don't require such a high level of cost re travel expenses. we got nowhere near enough meetings at Rye last year and thanks to the ridiculous playoff cut off dates we barely got out of August. I hope things change next year and we have a happy medium of meetings every week without resorting to double headers
  15. There is normally a counter argument that is more compelling. Like a lot a people attending Meetings at Sittingbourne i am from far away well across the river. Now i,like a lot of others wouldn't dream of visiting a place like Sittingbourne and spending my hard earned money there. But actually i am supporting a local Business that supports local people giving them a source of income, lets also remember i might visit local shops and buy fuel whilst there and as i see it that is helping the local economy. Lets remember this is not only about a noise nuisance but the nuisance has to be weighed against the benefits of such a venture. This is not my opinion but experience gained whilst working at The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and trying to educate Councillors and prompt them past their own interests and needs thus having an appreciation of the overall picture
  16. Well done to the initiator for bringing this to the attention of those who remember Henryk. RIP However pointing out a simple error in spelling a difficult foreign name surely doesn't necessitate a comment does it?
  17. Glad we finished last, just emphasises how poor everything that happened at Rye was in 2014. Can be no excuses, no what if's we were bloody rubbish and the table never lies. I hope that, unlike years gone by we hear nothing about early team building etc. i think they need to check the rule book, check the finances then announce a team. If its one that is poor then admit at the outset that financial constraints are in place, none of this crap about bad luck, but for injuries, RR let us down etc Just a small point had Matty T been kept on we may have had a World Champion our books. I couldn't fault his efforts when he was here and i hope he nicks enough points to win the Long Track next week
  18. Jan Pedersen of Rye House warming his tyre on the while lined kerb at Sheffield. Jason Garrity for doing a practice start away from the tapes at Hoddesdon, never seen those exclusions before or since
  19. Why is one rider being targeted for a slagging off as a result of a meaningless twitter comment. Surely this thread is worthless and should be locked down by the moderators...fat chance i know as they hardly moderate anything after all
  20. Well the pitch was pristine in those days and i fail to understand how it wasn't damaged when the turf was lifted, as the Premier renter the FA pulled the strings much in the same way as Sky pull the strings with British Speedway.
  21. Missing this as I'm down in Morizes watching the World Long track, hope we finish with a win, a real depressing season, wonder if Len will thank the faithful supporters or knock them again in the programme. Amazing that the season is over at both my local tracks before mid September a sign of the times since the play offs were introduced another reason why Sky has ruined our sport.
  22. In a funny sort of way i'm pleased about the Edinburgh thrashing. They were head and shoulders above where we are at the moment and although not a fan of Craig Cook he showed how good he could be and should heed the Advice of Kelvin Tatum and drop the Pl as he's learning nothing from meetings like this where Rye were way below the required standard. I'd never insult Len Silver for what he has achieved in the sport but his finger is nowhere near the pulse since he teamed up with Kent which i see is his priority at the moment. His rambling programme notes yesterday were particularly galling for those who support Rye through thick and thin. I think he got his comments 100 percent wrong stating that the internet critics are living in a fantasy land. It is he surely who has made errors in the last couple of seasons and is living in fantasy land if he feels he is above criticism, twice he has allowed Nelson to be included in a side only to be lost because the promotion and the rider didn't get the Visa issues right. This season he replaces him with a rider he must have known would not be available a good deal of the time through his foreign commitments and then bleats about not having the ability to replace him as he and sampford didn't understand the rules. A little bit of honesty at the start of the season would have gone a long way, yes he had a big expenditure with the air fence and fair play for taking that on the chin but to talk up his team then bleat when things go wrong and knock his dwindling support is bang out of order Given the recent run of better form this defeat, not only in size but the manner of the defeat must make him realise and admit his teams shortcomings rather than further alienate the few fans he has left with idiotic programme notes. If next season doesn't see him bring in some proper heat leaders and drop his loyalty scheme for some riders there will be no speedway at Rye. wake up Mr Silver stop knocking the fans Confused by the no grading comments followed by...the track seemed to ride well all evening ??? Your own question answered surely Barratt was a guest, a poor one at that but doesn't really count in a summing up of Rye House surely? Rye House reminds me of Glasgow and Edinburgh, dismal Stadia with crowds that make you wonder how it pays but if course a little success now and again makes it all ok
  23. Easy to knock him but like it or not British Speedway badly needs him, even allowing for the fact that it was on sky the Lakeside v Poole match had a terrible crowd and Ward's absence probably kept half the local support at home in front of the telly. I agree lets get his punishment out in the open ASAP let him serve his sentence and get him back into British racing.
  24. Poor from Peterborough, good guest for Rye for a change, irrespective of his scores Garrity had his best meeting of the season, his attitude seemed bang on and good to see him lending Steve B his bike. PL becoming a farce, nearly as bad as the EL for missing riders, hope we can carry the spirit shown tonight onto saturday and give the Monarchs a tonking
