I think Arena would complain to, teams dont want local rivals these days as they say it takes away their crowds, yet to me, people who like speedway would go to both.

Ok Norb me old mate where did the Chicwick Nomads ride and the Southern Rovers (I know the latter raced some matches at Eastbourne, California, and Rayleigh) And was the Brum promoter of teh 60's the same Phil Tiger Hart that rode for Brum in the 70's?
-
much appreciated thank you.

Ken, Italy toured the UK in 1980 and 1981 - not 1979. They rode at Canterbury on both tours. They didn't ride at Ellesmere Port on either tour! Schedule was - 1980 - Canterbury, Mildenhall, Crayford (rained off), Long Eaton, Oxford. 1981 - Canterbury, Wolverhampton, Exeter, Milton Keynes, Oxford. The Birmingham Indoor at the NEC was 1980 (Jan 17,18,19). But they also held meetings in 1984. I can probably give you heat details on any of these meetings - let me know which ones you want. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Blimey the old cine film I have been given clearly states Ellesmere Port v italy and Canterbury v Italy also Birmingham Indoor 1980, should have it trasnferred over soon, but any details of these would be helpful, I may be calling on you a lot for some details of other footage too. Cheers Ken, best to send it on me works e-mail

Can Ellesmere Port beat Italy?, rare footage from Thornton Road, but has anyone got the race results and team details? also Canterbury v Italy ? 1979 or 1980. Plus details from the Birmingham indoor meeting, same time needed. Thanks

Who was the man who used to go around the tracks with a suitcase selling programmes from different tracks?, blimey I used to get loads of of him. Hughie Saunders would give me a lift back to home after the meetings! Still got all me stickers and a few posters too, honest Len I did intend putting them in a chip shop, well some of 'em!

Love reading Crumpies bit about using nitro at Crewe!, no wonder they stuffed the daylights out of the eagles in those days, Eastbourne tried the nitro move in 1972 in a ko cup match, got closer 31-47, but only won at home by 44-34, other than that never got 26, until the last ever meeting and won up there 46-31, mind you the track had changed by then! another great issue Tony, keep it going..... and going.....and going....

I don't no, and the Mildenhall/Rye House footage is 1979 not 89, most of the late 80 early 90's was KM video (paul bonner) but he destroyed the masters after a fall out with someone at the time, I still see Paul, but I know he hasn't got them anymore, I do have some Ken

Latest edition to be added is MILDENHALL V RYE HOUSE the 1979 title decider, and Eastbourne v Hull 1979. keep it coming!

One of my main memorys was being shown around the Matchbox toy car factory behind the 2nd bend, when I was really little and trying to tell the owner he should make speedway riders on bike instead of cars!, still got all me old progs though and those from many other places. Great memories trying to climb up those ruddy huge steps so I could see! Didnt like it when they changed from Hawks to Kestrels though, didnt mean as much as it was just Crayfords rejects! Just think in those days they didnt have a track shop they had two or three!

We will indeed be at Brighton, we are providing footage for Meridian and BBC television. contact number 07751978331 - Ken

Trouble is Promoters take a lot out but are not willing to put in, too much of speedway is a closed shop, if some one comes in and can do a job, but needs to shift some old deadwood, it is frowned upon and they quickly are moved out and lost to the sport. Not being unkind, but you can count the good promoters on one hand, and it has been said many times, until you get a independant body in charge of the sport with no conections to a club this will not change. Rules need to not just be made, but kept, not stupid double points rules, but real rules, realistic averages, no team could afford 7 numbers 1's and no number 1 would want to be at number 4,5,6 or 7 in a team. What is wrong with Poole being the Manchester United of speedway? They won't put more bums on their own seats, but they will when they travel to others and if they get beaten, great everyone goes home happy. People are quick to knock our sport, our stars and our managers when they are successfull (such as Neil Middleditch), but maybe they should be setting thereselve the same high standards that are set down at Wimbourne Road. We need a national team to be proud of, we came so close last year, but where will we be in 2010?, the Brit riders need to have targets and want to ride for Britain or ENGLAND as it used to be, they need backing and support. British speedway is better than Polish, Swedish, Danish and USA or used to be and that is the problem terms such as "USE TO BE", "USE TO GO" are heard more often than do go. This needs rectifying, but to get them back is going to be hard. Than and only then will speedway be taken seriously.

If I can fix it, I will make up a tape of Old Hackney footage, (Hawks) and we can have it playing in the background if you want?

I can try and scan it for you as long as it does not damage me book. Have you looked at the old LEICESTER OR MIDDLESBRO sites as he used to ride for them? -
