Bordertown Solo Championship-South Aust 20/12/03
Marty replied to Marty's topic in International World of Speedway
Hi everyone, the above event is one that I have been working on for about 8 months now & is my 1st (could be last ) effort at promoting an event. Everything is finally falling into place & just hope to put an all action show on for the crowd. Sir Lunchalot has kindly helped support a couple of races & would like to use the Forum name for the races. So I will have a minimum of 2 races named after the Forum, put an add for the Forum in the program & will also have the Forum name on the posters. All overseas Forum members will get in FREE Even Bryn, as he's commentating, for a bottle of Bundy (I hope) Wish me bloody Luck. No rain,no rain,no rain,no rain,no rain !!! Mark -
Bordertown Solo Championship The Bordertown Solo Championship will be held at the Bordertown Speedway on Dec the 20th. This will be the 1st time that the bikes have been back on the track in 20 years. Also on the program will be the Tatiara Sidecar Cup, Young Gun Solo's & 250cc Junior Solo's. The Championship will be run with a 12 rider line up contesting 4 heats each, the top point scorer for the night will transfer directly into the final, with the next 8 being split into 2 semi finals and the 1st two from each semi transferring to the 5 rider final. The line up will consist of International riders up to English Premier League standard with the inclusion of local & interstate riders. Also on the program to keep the crowd entertained will be 2 Freestyle MX demonstrations. Bordertown is situated on the main Adelaide to Melbourne Highway (Dukes) & is 10 Km on the S.A. side of the Border. The track is on the Highway as you enter the town. All the action starts at 7 pm with full catering & bar facilities. Many thanks must go to the Bordertown Speedway for making this event possible.

SIDEWINDERS OPENING NIGHT Sidewinders Junior Speedway Club in Adelaide held their opening meeting for the season on Sat 18th Oct. On a warm & windy night all of the young competitors put on some great racing for the enthusiastic crowd. In the solo section it was down to Jason Norman (Aust no.2), Jonathon Hepburn, Sam Martin & Aaron Summers (Aust no.4) to fight out the A final. In a very close race between all 4 riders Norman came out on top after a good nights work going through the card undefeated, second place went to Martin with one of his better performances up against these other 3 top riders. Summers & Hepburn both had a solid night coming in third & fourth after being caught wide on the first corner from their outside starting positions. In the B final it was an all the way win to Harley Liersch after a mechanical failure in one of his heats prevented him from making the A final. Robert Medson & Mikael Brereton came in second & third continuing their hard fort battles from the heats & Dylan Liersch coming in fouth. In the novice solos young first time rider Kale Scott showed plenty of potential in his rides, while in the mini bike section Luke Medson & Adam Harris both rode well. The sidecars put on a great show with the two Irwin brothers trying to show each other who is boss, in the end it was Jesse with passenger Ashleigh Dennis coming out on top of Dylan & passenger Haley Harvey.

From what I can see, the Vic & S.A. Titles are on the same date Dec the 6th. Seems a bit stupid to me as I would have thought that they would need a few riders from each state to make the meetings any good. Especially S.A., they would need 6-7 Vic's to make it a decent meeting !!
-
Sounds like a good trip Ace. Look forward to catching up with you & Lunchy at Mildura

Not Renmark. Its at Bordertown. At the border of S.A. & Vic on the main Adelaide to Melbourne Hwy (Dukes Hwy). The track is clay but its a pretty good set up. I know clay tracks can be a bit of a handful, but the plan is to have it packed down hard & a bit on the slick side. The Championship will be 12 riders,4 heats each, 2 semis & a final will also have a Young guns series, Sidecars, junior 250's, maybe go-karts & have 2 freestyle MX guys lined up to do some demos. As I said before, I still have a few things to get organised but at the moment its looking reasonably good. So keep it in mind, would be good if you can ride in it, but will catch up with you when you get back. All the Best Mark

Not too sure about the lights at Gillman, Cameron. We're there this Sunday so will have a look, but they must be close as they are running every 2 weeks this summer. Keep the 20th of Dec in mind, I am running the Bordertown Solo Championship. Am about 95% of the way there, just waiting to get the track inspected & a permit. Havent had bikes there for 20 years so should be interesting. Will catch up with you when you get back about maybe having a ride.

Cameron ??, are you back home ????

Victoria V’s South Australia On Sat 12 of July, Mildura ran a Vic v S.A junior team’s match. The teams were made up of 6 riders per team, with the final result being a victory for the S.A. Sidewinders team 49-37. With the Vic’s having recently lost a couple of their top riders to the seniors & a problem with their no. 1 rider not being able to make it, (his rides being shared) the up & coming riders put on a fantastic display against a strong S.A. side. For the S.A. team Jason Norman 14 (1) & Jonathon Hepburn 10 (3) both put on a good display of team riding, with Sam Martin 12 points putting in a solid performance. Harley Liersch & Rob Medson both put in good efforts with 6 points each & Dillon Liersch with 1 For the Victorians Ryan Sedgeman had some very good rides notching up 12 points & the ever improving Ben Brooks looked good with 9. Young Justin Sedgeman & Josh Munroe looked very steady for their 7 & 6 points & Brenton Barnfield did well for his 3 points. Over all it was a superb day of racing with all riders showing great skills. Next meeting for the Mildura winter series is to be held on Aug the 9th & it is planned to run a junior 3 team tournament with Vic, S.A, & N.S.W.

Then there's allways that nice 8-9 hour drive to Adelaide so you can go to Gillman. On the way stop in at Marty's Cafe for a free coffee at Tailem Bend News from Gillman for this coming season is that they should have their permanent lighting up & will be running every 2 weeks during the season, which is great news for speedway in South Australia. Cheers Mark

Great Site, Thanks sidecar 121 Cheers Mark Martin -
Yep, there the ones Shazz. But I think that little girl is around 24-25 now & they have another real, real, small girl Alison who is only 18-19 . I keep in touch with them through Alisons works e mail. Remember getting home a bit late & a bit drunk one night. Steph & Andy were asleep, went up stairs & jumped on their bed with a big lot of fish & chips for an early morning snack. They remind me about it every time we get in touch.

Hey Kev, A quick picture of Knocker. Shaved head, big lips, walked with his shoulders by his ears . I use to board with his sister & brother inlaw ( Steph & Andy) they were a great family. Shazz when you see Knocker please say hello! for me. And who was Lofty ( sure rings a bell ). Must be getting old, memory is going.

Bricey is probably hiding, still owes me $. Still can't believe that I went to his wedding instead of the 81 World Final at Wembly. Every time I think about it I start hitting my head against a brick wall "OUCH" there I go again!! Ran into Darryll at Mildura about 3 months ago at the bar. He is still a brick layer but now has his own business. Built & owns a few appartment blocks & is doing very well. Worst thing is, he looks exactly the same as when he was racing ( I'm gunna have to become a brick layer )

hi marty nice to be back hope you are well , story ? what about you in the wheel at stoke trying to earn some money and that nice clean water :x That was suppose to be Knocker in the tractor tyre, but he chickened out & the 20 pound looked too good. Must have rolled 60 yards down that hill, nearly broke my arm before the meeting got started
