Edinburgh V Workington Ch 5/5/17 @ 7.30pm
GM replied to Mr Blobby's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Guests are unreliable My concern is Adam Roynan I know he does not like Armadale but his performances this year have for me been unacceptable. He looks to be riding last years equipment and that was not good enough last year let alone this. Other teams are ruthless with team changes but I think Workington are soft keeping riders when they underperform, plenty of rider out there that would do much better than Adam. Lovely lad but not getting enough points. -
Workington V Scunthorpe 15/04/17 Champ 7:00pm

Decent meeting spoiled by the wind. The track staff had no chance I seen them watering the track as late as 6.40 but there was dust first heat because of the drying wind. Riders just settling in yet Mason sorted his mechanical problems out and got a great score Adam for me is the one that's struggling we know how poor his away form can be but to ride like that at home is unacceptable which his experience around Workington. I've not been impressed with Adam no new equipment by the looks of it and it was not fast enough last season at least Mason has invested in equipment and the rewards showed last night just need him to keep it up now. -
I did not even know about this until Friday and it was Nigel Pearson and Kelvin Tatum that told us about the possibility of Sky not doing speedway this year. Off stage Kelvin thought it was not going to happen so if them two are not sure something is up because they should be signed up by now I would think.

If there is any truth in the amount of money that Belle Vue owe both in rent for there stadium and the amount the riders are owed I don't think we will see Belle Vue next season under the current promotion. Hope these strong rumours are wrong but to many people saying the same thing riders included.

Workington V Glasgow 08/10/16 19:00hrs 2nd Leg League Cup
GM replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Absolutely shocking if this is true. Why have Workington not announced this. I hope they not trying to hide this fact if it is true. Hansen has rode to drop his average the last couple of months and succeeded and rubbed it in with that performance on Saturday why has that effort been the last few months ???? -
Workington V Rye House 16/05/15
GM replied to Falcon Hammer's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Workington's reserve's are simply going to be a burden all season. Barrett never going to improve he has one win then nothing for ten rides. Graves well he young but not quite ready for me he needs time in a team where is points are not crutial. Weathers signing makes us weaker as R/R would bring us more points. I'm really concerned that with this poor team this could be our last speedway season in Workington. I'm going to attend as many meetings as I can as I do think this will be our last season. No way can Laura loose money again like she did last season and with this team the crowds are simply disappearing. Last weeks crowd was as low as I've seen at Workington. We have a number one that's simply not a number one a captain that's not a captain just in it for himself never once seen him team ride or help anyone ( showed a couple of weeks ago how good a captain he is when his bike broke down and not one rider offered him a bike !!!!). And the weakest set of reserves in the league. I'm gutted watching this unfold. -
Workington V Edinburgh 25/04/15 19:00hrs (lc)
GM replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Its obvious why they stopped the riders going straight to the tapes instead of going around the track. I've been told there was a suspicion of a little cheating going on earlier in the meeting with certain riders making very good starts !!!! -
I know it's early in the season but on paper before a wheel was turned this Workington team excited no one. Riders are riding exact ally how many thought they would. Changes soon before the league starts or this will certainly be Workington Speedways last season I think because the crowds will simply not go and watch a team ride like this.

Workington Vs Redcar 28/3/15 7pm A66 Trophy
GM replied to Django's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
It might have rained a little tonight but this meeting should never have been called off so early. This is why speedway is seen by many as a joke. I agree I don't want to see any rider take to the track in unsafe conditions but riders now a days see one spot of rain and refuse to ride. That's why promotions are so scared to even gamble on the weather. Been mostly dry in Workington since press day last week a bit of overnight rain and they shelve it. To many meetings called off nowadays -
I totally agree with Wethers not getting a visa. He is not good enough to get a 7 point average and does not ride in his state championships. Campton is a totally different case he is an up and coming good young rider who will get to a 7 point average within the next two seasons if allowed to ride and he rides his state championships every year in fact finishing in two last season in the top four. This season he was injured and could not ride so I belove he should have had a fair hearing and an appeal granted. Working tons team is now shocking. No number one and running with two untried reserves could be a long season at Derwent Park.
-
Agree with a few that have posted about the team for text season. My concern is that crowds are slipping away at Workington each year and I really think an out and out number one someone the fans can expect to score big most meetings would have been the key. I know it did not happen but getting someone like Cook would have pulled a few fans back. The team is put together to keep Campton at reserve. But with clearly no one even near to be an out and out number one I not looking forward with much excitement. Hanson will not even keep that average in the premier league. No easy rides in the premier league !!!! Bach well after dropping his average for the last three years is he going to get any better I don't think so. Wells rode well at end of the season but boy what a boring rider he is to watch. One pass all year going around anyone and that was in the final match of the season. Howarth has loads of potential but locks up far to many times around Derwent Park very surprised he has resigned after his body language last year. Palm Toft should up his false average I would think. Mason will score a few at reserve. Barrett has rode over hear a few years now will he improve I don't know as I don't know much about him u But he did score a few riding here during last season. Not a team I look forward to watching each week sorry.
-
Three years on the trot Rene has dropped his average at Workington and I can not see that changing next season. I believe he is the worst captain the Comets have ever had. He does not team ride and offers little help to anyone but himself. Very exciting at times but the times are few and far between nowadays sadly.
-
I'm sure Charles is a Workington Asset. To high a average I think.
-
Are you really sure you would pick Charles on that average 6.64 ? WOW
-
The flights alone to fly him in and out are what I'm meaning plus fuel from the airports and hotels. That's not the points money he will be on. Plonker. Of course I don't know if points money wise if he will be on more than a British based rider but it's a hell of a lot cheaper to just pay a British based rider fuel expenses rather than all the flights a Danish rider will require.
-
Poor signing in my opinion. No better than what we had this year in Bach, Wells and Howarth. I don't think he will keep his 7.7 average in the premier league. Just don't understand why Workington would sign a very expensive Danish rider when there are far more better British based riders.

Time to bring Mr Cooke back home 9.19 Cookie 8.11 Josh 6.57 Kyle 6.49 Ricky 4.66 Mason 3.73 Simon 3.75 ????????? Not a bad team on paper.
-
Simon Stead Ricky Wells Richie Worrall Rene Bach David Bellago Mason Campton Simon Lambert Don't think Kyle or Josh want to come back. If am wrong they would be the first two names down. I would give both Ricky and Rene another shout on there averages. Ricky especially has done really well towards the end of the season and Rene's form in Denmark and Poland has been great. Worrall not been as strong this year at Ipswich but I think he would be fantastic at Derwent Park each week. Getting Mason at reserve is a must. You don't win anything in speedway unless you have one reserve knocking the points in.
-
All I will say its a good job Ricky does not play football or rugby as no one would get the ball off him as he does not pass. And not even try to pass either. He has got a good average for nest season though as a few have pointed out but WHY HAS HE GOT A LOW AVERAGE because he has not scored enough points to get a higher one !!!!
-
The fence posts on the Workington track are still the original posts in there original place. The banking has never changed at all. The shape has though which has taken away a lot of our home advantage. Jenga some strange team picks there. 1 no Josh. Why he is a brilliant rider who gives 100% 2 deffo Ricky Why he is boring to watch and has made two passes all year at Derwent Park. 3 Rene In my opinion the worst captain Workington have ever had. Never team rides and complains non stop about anything which has a negative affect on the other riders. If the captain is always complaining about the track bike weather his van the airport the travel everything how do you think the younger riders feel watching him spit his dummy out every week.

Workington V Sheffield 27/07/14 15:00 Hrs (pl)
GM replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
This meeting was originally on tonight so why oh why could they not just delay the start and think of all the fans for once ? After all that has gone on at Workington this year this is a whole new level. And the explanation was shocking and sounded like a cover up. -
Great signing !!!! Just been dropped from the national league side and struggling in the elite against young riders. Well done workington

Somerset V Workington Koc 9th April
GM replied to oldtimer's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Sad to say my pre season prediction that the comets would win nothing is proving right. You need one of your reserves to have a break through season and with Ashley just showing very slow progress but at least it is progress. Our other reserve is only going one way and that's backwards. The comets will win nothing as long as Chris Mills is in the team no potential at all he is finished and last nights 0 0 0 0 would be the final straw for me after his performance's at Newcastle Berwick and Edinburgh. He has bought new equipment but it's made no difference at all still at the back still breaking down. Time to give a young rider a chance who at least has a chance to improve. And don't mention he is a nice guy we know he is but I'm talking about riding a speedway bike. -
I take everything back I said in starting this topic off. I did not like the fact that it was just the fans that were being asked to put up with fund raising after fund raising with in my view the people most to benefit from any safety air or foam fence the riders not involved. This has now changed with the riders being involved in the air fence meetings which I applaud 100% and I will be supporting this meeting along with a good donation of my own too. Well done to everyone we all want our sport to be as safe as it can be and these fences will improve safety so much.

Gollob was a wild card pick so this means he has turned it down so surely they will pick another wild card
