  1. What a silly comment! If racing came back into speedway, crowds might improve and the sport become more exciting to watch once again. Completely against the ideas of the BSPA
  2. I think it is my increasing senility, Gemini You are right about the tickets now that I think hard about it.
  3. The Speedwayworld site has a banner stating that tickets for Cardiff 2007 will be available soon. Looks more likely that the GP will be much earlier in the year.
  4. Unless my senility is more advanced than I thought, it was said last Monday that there would be an exclusive announcement regarding the British GP tomorrow. Tomorrow's meeting being at Reading and JP owning the same club, I presume that he will be making whatever announcement it is during an interview.
  5. There have been many comments to the effect that it was a 50/50 decision. Perhaps it is time to look again at the requirement to exclude someone?
  6. Ah, but in the GP, they are allowed a new tyre every race I believe. The extra grip makes all the difference
  7. I presume that this rest from speedway is matched by a break from racing cars?
  8. Those people at Reading will no doubt thoroughly enjoy themselves as I did at Swindon last year, but watching on Sky the meeting is amost as boring as Thursday night's race off. "The best riders in the world" said the commentator. Shame they do not have a track surface that allows racing talent to show through. Speedway has become drag racing on dirt.
  9. I have to agree. The track looked to be one of the worst I have ever seen.
  10. Speedway is committing suicide. I agree with what has been said about the riders but the rot does not stop there. Another thing that is killing the Elite League is the lack of variety. Who in all honesty really wants to see the same opponents several times a season? That is where the Premier League scores. Similarly, how many times have complaints been made about tracks? I am fed with seeing good gaters beat everyone. I prefer to see speedway racing. No, I am not talking about passing but actual racing - there is a difference between the two. As a speedway supporter of over 50 years, I long for the days of seeing variety in the type of meeting - Open meetings, championship qualifiers, test matches etc. all on tracks that encouraged good racing. Now it is a case of what was on last week on tracks that encourage gating and riders fiddling about at the start gate trying to dig down to Australia. Perhaps a look back at what excited crowds in the past might encourage those that have the power, to alter their ways before speedway is dead and buried.
  11. So, on the basis of your argument, any rider who wants to get on should make sure that they ride for Poole at some point. I humbly suggest that that will severely limit the number of British riders who are likely to do well on the International scene.
  12. I can think of a few riders young and old, who deserve the chance at least as much as Edward Kennet and in a few cases more so. It is unfair on both Lanham and Smith. In the case of Smith, it seems that "ageism" is alive and well in speedway. As for Lanham, he rides for an unfashionable team. What does surprise me though, is that people are crying foul. Any one who imagines that speedway is being run fairly and professionally needs to see a good doctor!
  13. Best GP so far I thought. Much more racing than in previous rounds. A suggestion for BSI - throw Rickardsson out as he is only going through the motions, and replace him with Hans Andersen.
  14. Easter weekend would be good if it has to be staged that early.
  15. Pleased to say that mine arrived today as well
  16. FLU ! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> According to his manager on the BSPA site, the problem was "electrical" (should that be "electrickal"). Nothing said about the flu
  17. Forgive me butting in, but does this help? I found it in Wikipedia - a village in the parish of Pentyrch, South Glamorgan.
  18. Looking at some of the threads in the other in the other forums, I suppose I should regard that comment as a declaration of war However, I have a sense of humour and take it in the spirit in which it was intended LOL I am constantly reminded of how old I am by my son and the kids I teach so I would find hard to disagree with you CHK
  19. I had a Coventry Eagle bike to ride to school. The first thing I did with it was change the handlebars to a set of "cowhorns". Had great fun riding around a local bomb site thinking I was Bjorn Knutsson or another star
  20. Jim, I agree that Peter Craven was a superb rider, arguably the best of all time. It is a shame that such a man had his life prematurely ended. Speedway is a different sport now because life today is very different to then. At this point I think I should shut up before I sound like a "Grumpy Old Man"!
  21. I share your sentiments even though I do not have relations in Australia Like you, I am no fan of Lee Richardson but I sincerely hope he does well on Saturday.
  22. There is little difference between this and the days when GB was too weak to fill a side with all British born riders. In those days such greats as Briggo rode for GB.
