Shame feel for James its not funny money goes nowhere in speedway. not the first rider to be left high and dry ask George one of the reasons he quit. he loved his time at Oxford and would have gone back but his heart was at Weymouth and it was never the same after he found out he was dropped by reading it in the press while he was recovering form concussion. Still makes me sad when I think about it. Like many you end up on the outside looking in after you put a lot into the club. Still time to hope someone will come in and we can all give our support once again

Lets hope now someone can take Weymouth forward. After all the hard work we all put into the original planning permission work on the site which was a dump and overgrown. Seeing it take shape to what it has fallen into is very sad for all who worked so hard at the start. many good people have been upset and hurt over the last few years as well as loosing out financially. i look back on the good days we had. The fun we had at our training schools people still come up and say about them which is nice. A lot of positives came from what we achieved and many people should be proud. It IS a good club with a lot of good people willing to work hard for the club.... Lets see it move forward now :-)

Charles Chook, Who you say???? someone unknown to speedway died last week He knew very little about speedway and lived a few doors from my parents house who read and new a little of Poole Speedway living so close to the stadium. He was a grand retired gentleman who had watched with fascination as we loaded and unloaded bikes worked on them at my parents place and asked about what we did. George had just started riding a 500 and was then 11 and one of the youngest to have got his 500cc licence. Charles was amazed and said he would put some money into Georges racing. over the years he was true to his word and put a considerable three figure some into George's racing every year. Last year he had a massive stroke and had lost his memory and did not even recognise his own family who live in New Zealand. (who came over to be by his side.) He was placed into a convalescent home and lived the last year in a state of confussion. When his belongings were collected the main things he had was photos and news paper cuttings of George from U15s and Weymouth and Oxford. it was his main topic of conversation in the home. He was a man who backed a young British rider. Not a top star not for his own publicity but because he was encouraged to see a lad doing something that was bold and brave as every speedway rider who puts his leg over a speedway bike. A great man who I will miss our conversations and for speedway as a man who speedway so badly needs who believe in our youngsters. RIP Charles Steve and George Piper

Good Luck sounds like a great idea hope you have a great turnout for it. all the best Steve -
Nevs reminded me of the times we used to put playing cards pegged on our back wheels. this would have been about 1972 - 73 being around farms we used to get the old ICI fertilzer bags which were blue wash them out turn them inside out cut them out into race jackets and paint the skull and crossbow on them. I remember we had some yellow bags once we turned into Kings Lynn race jackets and raced around the grass triangle at the cross roads in the village of Mappowder in Dorset. Its still the same today. Makes me smile when ever i drive through there from time to time. Myself and my friend nigel used to be Poole while my brother and anyone else we could incourage to play were the away team. Oh great memories

The great carnival atmosphere test matches that had meaning having to arrive early so you could get in supporting a national team called ENGLAND my homemade programme board with a big bulldog clip the coloured bulbs hung from post to post around the Poole track the lights just over the track at Poole Super Simmo stickers on every car in Poole Watching Pete Smith racing Cheese and Onion rolls at Swindon (that takes me back) Riders and staff marching out onto the centre green to a good marching tune both teams side by side ( what a build up that was to a big meeting) real second halves

Cardiff Gp Junior Support Races
Wildcat Steve replied to morganbike's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
George had the season from hell last year. What could go wrong did. we spent so much money never had a season where we wrecked so many bikes. He had a rib injury that never really healed in April followed by concussion then a foot injury he picked up at Sittingbourne when his rear chain snapped and went clean through his boot. left him with soft tissue damage which never healed he was forching his swollen foot into his boot to ride. his foot was a mess. then he ended up having that awful looking crash at Kings Lynn that destroyed his helmet and bike and injured his shoulder, which ruled him out of the rest of the season. Not once did he blame his form on his injuries but himself and wanted to put it right this year. He was keen to ride and early in the new year had agreed with Peter Oakes to ride at Oxford again as he wanted to go back and put in a good year to justify the faith that Allen Trump had placed in him. By the time it all went pear shaped at Oxford George had settled into a job and was earning resonable money. He has had promotion in his job and works very long hours starting at 5am but is really missing racing. Peter Oakes has spoken to him about riding we still have a bike and our workshop. He may well put in some meetings at the end of this season and really wants to come back next year. George is now 17 and its up to him. He does not live with me and is busy taking driving lessons and wanting to get his licence. Both George and myself have missed being involved and hopefully we will be back next season though Iguess I will be more in the back ground now Reading some of the comments here. I have to say from our point of view. You do learn a lot being at Cardiff more on practice day I could not believe how helpful GP riders were I remember Ryan Sullivan having been injured just before the GP after his practice he was there watching the lads also Crumpie was. Dave Norris said to George "You think its great now you'll be kacking it tomorrow" Any youngster being given the chace should grab it with both hands. Go on lads get your names on your van and your websites up and running then go out and get those sponsors cause your spares cost as much as the EL man Steve -
George would like me to say sorry as he will be stepping down from the Newport round to ride for the Wildcats at Scunthorpe. He will be at Redcar for the final on the 7th and is looking forward to that one. George spoke to Peter Oakes on Sunday to get permission to stand down. For a second time he feels he has to put his club before himself. Gerorge will be wearing the wildcat No2 race jacket for the last time this season on the 1st at Scunthorpe as he will not be riding in the challenge at Plymouth on the 6th Oct so he can concentrate on the Final on the 7th as we will travel up the day before and can focus on the final

British U15 Championship 08/09

I saw the final With Dave at Brendans at the weekend when I dropped George off and was well Impressed with how well he was riding after such a nasty fall at Scunny. Speedway biks lift, it happens! George has witten off two frames like it this season. Sorry to all for George standing down from Somerset. he was looking forward to that round. Its a shame when dates clash .It was a tough call for a 15 year old, but he felt he owed it to his club fellow team mates and supporters. Then seeked to get permission to stand down -

I know this is an old thred and nice to see Shane helping the lads We have travelled a distance to be waiting at the pits gates to go out and a rider has gone out after a meeting and used up all the time and George being told sorry no time left. I hope that in the future and George is riding somewhere he would have the grace to say let the junior lads go first. I always give away Georges kit he grows out of and gear he does not use. We have been helped like that in the past like that. -
Frustrating Start For George Piper
Wildcat Steve replied to Wildcat Steve's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Hopefully we will get up another track George likes. Though last time in the U15s final he was riding there with a broken rib and when he got wiped out in his thrid ride with Dan Kirkman it was all he could do to get on the bike for the re-run and his last 2 rides. Plus with his good friend Ben Hopwood there this year I am sure we will be there at some stage. Its always a pleasure to come up to West Row, always enjoyable trips -
