My best mate, and soon to be best man at my wedding, Mark his name is, i took him along to Cov the last season, and he informed me his mum used to date a Lions rider, he called her from the stadium to ask who it was, she replied,. John Boulger !! ,..lol,...... no way i said, he was one of my boyhood hero's. By the way, ... for my stag do im looking at going to visit the new track in Spain, and having a track day riding bikes etc. ive spoken to the guys there and its looking good, my boyhood dream may come true after all !! lol.

Well Gemini,. i had fond memories of the rivalry between Leicester Lions and Cov Bee's from back then, so ive kinda adopted them as my team now, plus they were the nearest to me then, peterbourough is probably nearest now as ive moved out to melton mowbray, but im loving supporting the Bee's, im not only a born again speedwy fan, buit also a born again annorack !! hehe. Any ex Lions fans going to cardif ??

Any fans of Leicester Lions out there, any memories gladly listened to here !. My era as a boy was 1967 ( aged 7) to 1975, i then discovered girls, drink etc....got my priorities wrong .lol. My Fave riders, Ray Wilson, Johnny Boulger, Tom Ledbetter, etc. Any news on the roumor of a return,i heard that somehere out in the sticks was being sound tested as a possible site ? I did hook up with the Leics speedway supporters club for a while, but the website is badly in need of revision with no dates for meetings etc being posted ? Anyone got any Lions memorabilia for sale ? ive managed to pick up programs, badges and photo's from ebay, but would love a race jacket, or something of that nature. Hope to hear from some of you

Cardiff Rooms Available
Chris-P replied to Star Lady's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I thought i might add a couple of points to the thread,... unimportant as my points may be, here goes anyway..... Firstly on the comments made by someone about the Travel Inns and hotels,. and even guest houses having to make hay whilst the sun shines...... Doesnt their sun shine most the year round ?..im sure that ther are many many events held at the stadium during the year with sports and pop concerts etc etc, so surely the hotels all make thier money anyway,or do they put thier prices up and down like a brides knickers to coincide with the events ?, i guess they must do. We had a job sourcing a room to stay over for the grand prix, and were amazed at the seemingly inflated prices with hotel and guest house staff doing the sharp intake of breath thing that builders do, saying , " ahh, thats the speedway weekend, ittle cost ya"!!. But..... perseverance prevailed and we found a guest house just on one of the main roads close to the stadium,(within walking distance), and secured a double room with breakfast for £46.00 Bargain !, obviousely not expecting much in the way of luxurious surroundings, ... but still happy with the deal!. I do think its a little unfair that people are booking rooms and not intending to use them, but intending to cancell them at the last minute,we would have paid the Travel Inn, or Travel Lodge price if a room had been available, but they were all taken at the time. Next, someone commented on the crap quality of the racing last year.... Are you Bonkers ??. i recetently watced the event back on video, and it was just as exiting as actaully being there, i forgot that some of the racing was actually so good, as for a british rider not in contention, or whatever was said..... scotty nicholls came bloody close and was only scuppered by the hand of lady luck on a couple of occasions that sent him packing. law of averages says that things have got to change on that score, caus he certainly has the skill, determitation, and desire to win a grand prix, and what better place to do it than cardif!. This year we are traveling by train on the day, driving last year from leicester was a nightmare, some of the intended route was closed off, and some kind police man at a service station sent us the wrong way, just to add to the confusion/stress and delay !. So,...ill let the train do the thiinking about the route. walk to the digs from the station, and enjoy the whole event in the knowledge that i can go for a beer, a meal and then walk to the digs and fall into my bed, albeit possibly a lumpy one ! Viva Le Grand Prix.............. CUMMON SCOTTY, CUMMON MY SONNNNN !!! -

This was my first trip to cardiff and i had a wicked time, the atmosphere was electric !. If anyone set their video machines correctly to record it ( unlike me !) then i would dearly love to buy a copy of the meeting from them, if they would considder selling me one, ( or better still on dvd). I know it was re re-run on sunday, but there was no way i was gonna be out of bed at ten am............and i was proved wrong when i assumed it would be re run a couple of times on sunday...sillly me Can anyone oblige me with a recording to keep for posterity ?? i can pay through paypal, or send a cheque in advance. Here's hoping .... Chris - P ( Born again speedway fan......Bring back Leicester Lions!! )

Backtrack mag is just what i needed !! I love all the old nostalgia stuff, most of it i can relate to, although i ducked out of the sport when our track closed here in Leicester during the early 80's. I rejoined at the beginning of this season ( now following the Cov Bee's) and considder myself as a true born again fan, cant get enough !! . Any chance of some more Leicester Lions features, particularly of the Ray Wilson/John Boulger era ??? Im still thumbing through the first 4 issues and still finding stuff to read, love all the old action pics too. Keep it up, looking forward to next issue.
