Championship League Riders' Championship at Poole
arnieg replied to cinderfella's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
What is interesting to note is that 2 or 3 years ago I'd have questioned that and said the Championship was (a little) stronger than Polska liga 2. But looking at the averages of riders performing in both this season - Morris, Pickering, Masters, Ellis, Douglas, Brennan, Aarnio and Batchelor - that is clearly no longer the case. -

But Louis didn't start riding until he was 26/27 or so. Another more recent example is Leon Madsen who only became a GP regular in 2019 age 30. -
Great start for Luke. Nice to see an Estonian in the final

Er riding for Latvia in SoN. But given I clearly stated the majority of top under 21 riders don't become GP regulars this is hardly a helpful example. You should also note that most GP riders don't make it until mid 20s, often peaking in their 30s it is ridiculously premature to form such conclusions. -

He came third in 2020 final. But a rider with a modest under 21 record is far less likely to make it than one who has impressed. -

Under 24 league should help keep him in the shop window there, but compared with Francis Gusts, Jan Kvech and even Timi Salonen he doesn't look like a future GP star. Add these to Basso and the Poles and you've probably got at least 8-10 riders that are better prospects than Brennan at the under 21 level and in practice only 2 or 3 of these will become GP regulars. -
But rainfall radar is a picture of actual rain and not a forecast. Use the animation button to get a sense of how the bands of rain are behaving and you have the best date you could possibly have. If I was restricted to one source, it is the one I would use.

Make who look important? Grant or Brown?

Championship League Riders' Championship at Poole

Not strictly true. When Wright was 21 he was a Premier (now Championship) reserve with Redcar and still riding in the NL. King was riding for NL Mildenhall when aged 20 (in 2006) and Lawson hadn't even started speedway (he made his NL debut aged 22) I think you are being too harsh on both of them, although your original premise that comparing them with others in the same age cohort abroad suggests they may struggle to reach the very top level is not an unreasonable one. I suspect that both may prove in the long term to have similar careers to the three riders you've named. -
And just what were Newcastle speedway paying Nick Brown for?
-
I think as first reserve Brennan ranks above Flint's second reserve so 'breaking' the tie.
-
Brennan finished 16th => 1 point Flint 17th => 0 pts https://fimspeedway.com/results/cardiff

Brennan does have 1 GP point and Flint zero.

Disappointing we don 't have one end of season open meeting (an individual or team challenge) as a farewell; I'm pretty confident there would be a decent turnout. Still we should have 3 maybe 4 Chargers matches to keep us occupied.

Tuesday 23rd August - Plymouth v Glasgow
arnieg replied to jbell1995's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
So what about situations like last Wednesday when 5 hours of heavy thundery showers were forecast. The showers all missed Cowley and the heavy band that caused major flooding in King's Cross and several other places in the South East dissipated by the time it reached Oxfordshire. Would you have Oxford call off their meeting at 10 a.m. for fear of a fine? That would have deprived us of an entertaining meeting, resulted in extra restaging costs for the home promotion and caused considerable annoyance to the visiting Monarchs fans. -
No idea but that was my first thought too.

I once saw custard powder used on the Poole track. (After that it was like a dessert )

I see crowd reported as 1931. No wonder the sport gets so little publicity. (South Shields in the Northern Premier League [tier 7] averaged more than that last year) -
9.89, but still fits if Complin has replaced Bowtell
